  1. I am sick to death of off lead dogs!!!! the bloody owners always act so nasty and offended if you say anything as though their f*****g dog has a right to attack other dogs. What did it's stupid owner say? I also use Zambuc and would love to know where you can get if from now, I have a very old tin and thought you couldn't buy it anymore. I use it for everything from wounds to scaly leg on hens it's fantastic.
  2. Does anyone know of anyone breeding hortaya in the UK.
  3. I know how you feel out of my five dogs three are insured really well and two arnt't. Couple of weeks ago one of the uninsured ones damaged it's stifle it's still having problems, if it was insured it would have been referred by now! Could kick myself.
  4. Has anyone read the "story" in the mail about the Fox killing a Chihuahua, who believes the bloke ran after the Fox and managed to take the dog from it. Maybe the fox did kill the the dog but the rest of the story sounds a load of s**t.
  5. It doesn't mention specific breeds this time. I receive the Working Trials Monthly and a woman on there is calling for some sort of action as she is worried it may also affect working dogs involved in man work. It seems very harsh on hunting dogs. Have a read of the bill it's on the net. It's annoying as the average age of people in WT is apparently 60 hardly your irresponsible teenager with a nasty dog.
  6. The new Dog Control bill has apparently had its first reading and is due for its second reading next month. Has anybody read it? I had a quick look and wonder how other people think it will affect Hunting, Schutzhund and Working Trials. This act will replace the present Dangerous Dogs act (1) No person shall— (a) allow a dog for which they are responsible to be aggressive or dangerously out of control, in either a public or private place; ( encourage a dog to be aggressive or to intimidate people or other animals; © keep a dog that has attacked a person or another protected animal
  7. Ester C is recommended for dogs. There is research to suggest it helps with cartilage and connective tissue and a host of other things. Read up about it, theres lots of info on the net.
  8. Do the dogs bark? the council won't have come round without a complaint. We get a lot of problems here with loose dogs killing stock and I know how pissed off you can get about other peoples dogs. Could you not try to negotiate with the council maybe keep two in the house. Sorry just being Devils Advocate.
  9. Excuse my ignorance but whats makes a tumbler different to a lurcher.
  10. Thank goodness I'm really pleased everything is ok. There is now a new theory that raising their bowls off the floor is not a good thing, wish these people would make up their minds!
  11. Did you tell them you thought it was bloat? Bloat is a medical emergency I can't understand why they refused.
  12. Please get him to an emergency vet straight away, if it is bloat tomorrow will be too late. My DH had it last year three in the morning it was awful but we took him to a vet and they managed to save him. My friends dog was not so lucky.
  13. Sorry but you dont have to be tall to be a good dog handler and why would she be four foot! I'm not young and I know of several women in their sixties with German Shepherds trained beyond the level of Police dogs. People should keep their dogs under control as you do now. I live within ear shot of a popular dog walk and some of the very common arguments you hear between dog owners are outrageous, some people seem to think they have a right to let their dog race around causing trouble just because if is friendly (and usually completely out of control) I dont want to be jumped all over by dogs w
  14. I've been watching this thread and am so pleased the dogs home again.
  15. My pet hate loose dogs, I had my finger broken and was bitten by a totally out of control dog earlier this year. It ran away from its useless owner and decided to ravel itself up in my tracking line. Last week my 11 week pup was walking on lead past a moored boat the dick of a owner had gone inside and locked his bull x outside it lept off the boat and bit my pup the stupid bloke had the nerve to have a go at me saying the tow path was for everyones use!!!! The w***er soon moved his dog when he saw me a bit later with my considerably bigger dogs. It really annoys me the way some men see olde
  16. Your dogs are very lucky to end up in a home were they are worked and occupied. We see a lot of these dogs that come in to be trained that have gone to the wrong home and ended up in rescue or worse. The last woman who came along with a Labradoodle bought it because she wanted a dog that was not aggresive to other dogs and had been told the Poodle cross would ensure this! I know several Poodles who love a good scrap lol her dog was dog aggresive.
  17. These non shedding dogs its a load of crap. The hair still falls out it just stays on the dog as does a Poodles, if you don't brush them it felts up into an absolute mess that won't brush out. I'm sure there are some nice Labradoodles out there but all the ones I've met are hyperactive and not a patch on a pure bred Poodle or Labrador. The price of some of them you could buy a Lab and a Poodle for the cost of one Labradoodle pup!
  18. Where in the country are you?
  19. What happened how did you get your dog back? great news.
  20. It's probably a good job they arn't more popular as their coats need a ridiculous amount of maintenance and they can very quickly become a very serious welfare issue. They are probaly better off left to the very serious Poodle fan.
  21. They are keen if I had to put money on my Poodle or Deerhound taking a rabbit I'd put it on the Poodle every time.
  22. You need to make yourself very interesting to the pup I train with a ball more than treats when the pup is in the right position you reward with the ball. This method works very well and also helps with recall it is quite involved but there is lots of info out there. This is the way service dogs are trained it really works. My 12 week pup heels on and off lead does automatic sits, downs in motion does short sendaways can track 30 metres and will retrieve to hand but it is a Poodle.
  23. More Poodle bashing! The only people who critisise standard Poodles are ones who know nothing about the breed. Poodles are clever, agile and have high prey drive whats not to like. My standard works in two unsissy dog sports and my 12 week pup has started bite work and is a lot keener than most of the rottie and shepherd pups at the club! They also have great feet and are delightful dogs a pleasure to own.
  24. Thanks very much for the advice. What is a Portamag?
  25. My dog has sprained his stifle turning quickly, the vet has put him on Carprofen anti inflamatory tablets. I am really worried now in case this developes into a real problem ie cruciate ligament or slipped stifle. What is the best action to take to try and ensure this heals properly and to strengthen the area.
