  1. Havent seen one in years round here, same old cry got any crabs on yer cock. Remember the sally army selling war cry in the pubs, fighting the war on the demon drink, some wag would always say ive killed 8 of the buggers and im taking a few prisoners home.
  2. SEEMS INCREDIBLE 95 REPLIES AND NO ONES MENTIONED THE BEATLES OR THE STONES
  3. for those of you who used to dabble with various substances remember this. Grace slick amazing voice and sexy as hell.
  4. MORE 4 9PM ENEMY AT THE GATES LOOSELY BASED ON A TRUE STORY GOOD FILM.
  5. Beddys have great noses when marking, ive had whippets and beddy whippets and there both great little workers, but my beddy had that bit more fire when working. Scenting abilities on some beddy xs have to be seen to be believed.
  6. I have thought that my self over the years. I reckon a 1/4 lab 3/4 grey, would make good lurcher[brain, speed, good coat+feet, and should make good retriever. pity you dont see them about.??? I had that very cross 20 years ago mate, it was a fairly useful dog took to water like a duck, and caught plenty of feathered game, strange thing was it had a bite like a great white, it was the hardest mouthed dog i ever owned. I gave it to my mate who really bonded with it, and it turned out to be a real charlie killer, just shows when breeding theres no surefire way of knowing what you may get.
  7. Your lucky it didnt set off a chain reaction my mates kitchen was nearly blown apart by that stuff, volatile as nitro glycerine, his wife wasnt best pleased. Good drink though well worth the risks.
  8. The last of a generation of true heroes, went through hell in the war to end all wars, hopefully to return to a land fit for heroes. What went wrong. RIP harry and thanks.
  9. Why worry about height a whippet around the 32lb mark will easily deal with rabbits and capable of bigger quarry.
  10. Had a beddy whippet that was great in woodland, she still got killed one day when she slipped on moss and broke her neck on a branch while coming to terms with a charlie, ive had dogs of all sizes that have worked woodland and in my view a whippet or whippetx be it beddy or collie take some beating, others may disagree but thats my experience. At the end of the day woodland coursing can be a heart stopping dangerous buisness.
  11. Too much cover at the moment round my neck of the woods, thougth we would get an early start but it wasnt to be too much rain at the moment, knocked back harvesting.
  12. YEP NOSTALGIA AINT WHAT IT USED TO BE
  13. Good read that its a wonder theres any wildlife about nowadays, every kid i knew had an egg collection, i spent days on end mooching round hedges and woods looking for nests. Downside was we used to shoot water voles, water rats as we called them in them days, they were so common then. Time didnt exist i frequently got my arse kicked for coming home at god knows what hour, you were so engrossed in what you were doing. Often got pulled up by an old keeper, always wondered how he knew where we were, know now he followed alarm calls from blackies and jays, all part of learning your apprenticeship
  14. I run a whippet 21inch and 32lbs and a lurcher at 24inch, believe me that whippet can hold its own against my lurcher. What no ones mentioned is the recovery rate of whippets mines fired up again after a couple of minutes, even after a long course. Most people under estimate these dogs, my father used to say whippets were the ghurkas of the canine world, small, loyal, brave as hell and bloody good at their job, a pretty good description i would say.
  15. The last british survivor of WW1 has died today, due to men like him you can walk around as free men and women RIP Harry.
  16. Walked my dogs on local field last night, usually find a couple of pounds of mushrooms on this spot in a season. Well last night it looked like it had been snowing, i picked 20 pounds of them in less than an hour, never seen this many so early in the season, all were about 2 inches across and no fly damage, anyway took them down the local pub for the old folks to share, the wartime generation arent as picky as a lot of people, they were chuffed to bits. Anybody else seen them in these numbers this year.

    out of town

Without doubt the greatest countryman ever on tv, an absolute wealth of knowledge, not like the bullshitters that are around these days. Shame so many programmes were lost. RIP JACK.
  18. Had a beddy whippet that used to do this, now got a saluki whippet that does it so long as it can catch them cant see a problem, good to watch though, a lot of collie crosses ive seen seem to have this trait. ATB Blucher.
  19. Total bollox colour doesnt make a blind bit of difference, saying that in the past it was hard to get rid of a white dog, obviously from a poachers point of view it would be like wearing a high vis vest on a poaching trip. Do me a favour though give me the name of that book i could do with a good laugh.
  20. Was talking purebreds mate, but thats my kind of dog just love the collie x .
  21. Right then as hunting men or ladies we all have our preference to the type of dog we own or type of cross in our lurchers. But which dog really floats your boat, im talking pure breds now, for me there is no more elegant dog than a scottish deerhound, but the diminutive whippet takes some beating what are your thoughts.
  22. Get to know local lurcher lads introduce yourself for all we know you could be an anti or worse, if genuine hull area has got some of the best lads goin. ATB
