Nine months its still a pup, dont listen to people telling you theirs were doing the buisness at that age, its usually bollox. Stick with it mate carry on training and it will come good, some of the best dogs ive seen were late starters. One in particular was nearly 18 months before it caught its first rabbit, fortunately the owner wasnt a jacker and now you couldnt buy that dog for love nor money. Good luck ATB.

Anyone got any theories why so many domestic dogs hate the fox so much. I mean most dogs will socialise with each other regardless of size, obviously hunting breeds have to a degree an inbuilt hatred as a result of selective breeding, but why do other dogs display this degree of agression towards them, when they all belong to the carnivora family. Any sensible theories.

When the maternal instinct kicks in cows are a very real danger as is any animal, had a mate who was nearly killed by a pet deer once.

Whippet around the 32lb mark will take some beating, got a saluki x whippet thats got the lightning take off and more stamina than your average whippet.

If you dont mind me saying, a lurcher is 100% for me, thats not the question I was simply trying to ascertain what the experienced lurcher people think the risks are, or should I not of asked, why does it seam that there is often a derogotory tone to some responses, there s always one who tries to be clever when all I want is sound advice....thanks I wasnt being clever mate, i was just pointing out that there are always risks when you keep that type of dog. Some advice i would give is get to know the ground that you will be running on that way you will know the danger spots and can minimiz

If your so worried about it then perhaps a lurcher is not the dog for you. There are always risks with running dogs, but as tomo said its about quality of life for the dog and working dogs certainly get that, I lost a dog 2years ago in a freak accident believe me i was gutted, it always seems to be your best dog that goes down that road.

I would wait until the dog was reasonably mentally mature, all dogs vary on this one, and then try and give it a dead cert squatter, as mentioned trying too early frustrates some dogs and youl end up with a yapper, one hell of a problem to cure. Anyway good look with it mate -
Its mainly a summer time thing, an old guy showed me how to do it with a blade of grass stretched between your thumbs and then blow gently between them. Stand still and you can get them to within 6 feet of you, done it dozens of times.

With all the recent bitching on this site, eg my bull cross is better than your collie cross, or somebodys being accused of being a puppy peddler. Or god help some newbie asking a question no matter how dumb it may seem, some one under the guise of extreme hunter feels it gives them the right carte blanche to slag them off and belittle them. Always favoured beddy blood in my lurchers reason being the incredible scenting abilities that ive always seen in working beddys, At the moment ive got 2 dogs beddy grey x collie grey and a 2nd cross saluki whippet, now the beddy x can mark while bushing, where other dogs have failed to notice anything, and the whippet x has the lightning pace of a good working whippet, just about the perfect combination for my needs. Whats your experiences and which breed do you favour for its scenting abilities. ATB.

I bet most blokes on here get sick to death of hearing, im going on a diet tomorrow. It used to be ooh that cambridge diets real good, janice lost 2 stone in 3 weeks on that didnt matter her breath smelt like a babys nappie. Then we got the atkins, that was when we all had a dead pig in the fridge. Now what unless a woman spends at least a tenner a week on some wonder diet plan then any other obviously cant work whatever happened to eating less and taking exercise. Before you ask no i aint a fat b*****d, all the best with your diet plan. WILL POWER.

THE ONLY TIME IVE KNOWN AN EXPERIENCED DOG SHY OFF WAS WHEN A MATES DOG NABBED A RABBIT AS IT WENT UNDER AN ELECTRIC FENCE AND THE DOG GOT A BELT, SURE ENOUGH THE DOG ASSOCIATED THE SHOCK WITH THE STRIKE ON THE RABBIT. HAS YOURS BEEN ANY WHERE NEAR ELECTRIC FENCES.

Had a beddy whippet that did a similar thing. Only took her on the darkest of nights. she soon got back to her old form, often start to hunt up if there is too much light. As others have mentioned mine could go off a bit when due in season. Anyway good luck with her.
