  4. Moley, you are on the same tack as me mate. I just spent 20 minutes trying find him a pic of a mink's hole on google
  5. Deek - were there any marks or dents in the percussions caps on the cartridges ? It could be th cartridges if they are old but it's most likely that the springs on the firing pins are weak / worn and don't have enough 'oomph' to make the cap go. If this is a gun someone has had in storage for a long time and left it cocked that the springs will have been compressed all that time. That's part of the argument for using snap caps but there is a counter argument about ejectors so lets not go there .... If that is right, the springs will need replacing but you might be able to rest the
  6. A snare would be as good a way as any but you need to get your act together on what you're going to do with it. Once it's caught by what ever means you have a duty and a legal obligation to deal with it swiftly and it will make a bit of a noise which may make you unpopular with the house owners.

  9. Have a look at this What happens to rabbits if they catch VHD? When a rabbit catches VHD, the virus heads for the liver where it causes massive inflammation and deranged blood clotting. Internal bleeding then occurs. It's basically a viral haemorrhagic fever and has been nicknamed "rabbit Ebola" for very good reason. VHD usually kills so quickly that no treatment is possible. Death rates of over 90% are quoted. Baby rabbits, under about 8 weeks of age, typically don’t show any signs of illness. However the disease is usually fatal in rabbits over 8 weeks of age. Infected rabb
  10. You should have been on when we had 'Hardcore Hunting' ! We were .co.uk but .com is an entirely different sort of site ......
  11. I think we are talking slightly out of phase with each other. You are talking about a particular branded product ? I am on about the more general clap trap design. And what's facinating here is that the ones I am on about are the other way up ! From a John Humphreys 'My Shed' article in shooting Times And from Carnegie's Practical Trapping
  12. Ditch has waxed lyrical on here about the escapology skills of Jackdaws so I can well believe what you describe. So were these wire boxes open at the bottom ? Effectively creating downwards 'tubes' instead of just holes ? How deep were they ?
  13. Foxtrack - I think I have a picture somewhere. I'll put it on it I can find it but if you've got one .......
  14. Nah that's bollocks mate. An extract from the Defra website Ladder traps These traps were originally devised by MAFF and although still in use are not as popular as the Larsen. The trap is normally about 12 feet square and about 6 feet high. The roof of the trap is the shape of a flat bottom 'V', the flat part being formed by the ladder. This has rungs approximately nine inches apart, which allow birds, (mainly crows), to enter the trap but prevents them from getting back out. The more that enter the trap, the more effective it becomes. These traps are normally baited with grain, d
  15. I was going to have a try at making one of these, so if you've got a plan DS can you send it me ? Cheers
  16. I bet she doesn't use terriers.
  17. Oh I like those. To comply with UK law we'll probably still need to use some sort of tunnel, but even so ....... And I think I have just found a supplier. I'll see if I can get some shipped and then I'll stick a few in classified
  18. OK I've had the next batch of these now, and have posted out copies to all those of you who have sent me some money and have had it acknowledged by me. I've got a couple of names on my list who said they were interested but not yet paid and maybe a couple of extras copies spare - so if you want one or think I should have had your cash please PM me. If there's enough interest I will probably order some more JB

  20. Another great testament to the positive side of this forum. Well done Rabiteer and all those who helped him
  21. isn't it engraved somewhere onthe side of the barrel ?
  22. Micky - I've had a quick search of your 'topics' and there's one about bodygrips that looks like it's moved fro one section to another. I don't seem to be able to access it or even find where it really is so I think you need to re do it, if that's th one you're after. Cheers John
  23. Self locking snares are prohibited under the 1981 Wildlife and countryside act. The current DEFRA code of practice does recommend the use of a 'stop' on snares, but it's not clear that this is a legal requirement. In fact the DEFRA consultation on snares contains this suggestion which implies that it is not yet law 3) Legislative changes The Group recommended that there should be a legal requirement for all snares to be fitted with fixed stops to eliminate or minimise any risk of causing suffering through constriction. Defra response: Defra will consider making st
  24. That's a really good question - my mate and I were talking about just that on our way back on Friday. He was telling me that when he was younger you would often see people out on the roadside banks on a Sunday morning.
