  1. I was looking through book on animal tracks last night and came across this illustration of how a rabbit runs which I thought might help other novice snarers visualise Snaremans instructions on snare placement and height. You can clearly see how the head and neck extend as the backlegs strike and push off. [ I've moved the yellow line in as per Snareman's post JB]
  2. The ones Wife posted about use 'bob wires' like the pigeon trap thread on here. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=17850 The other common type uses funnels at ground level, a bit like the crow traps in this thread http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=17858
  3. I found this on wikpedia which might explain it ..... The horseradish root itself has hardly any aroma. When cut or grated, however, enzymes from the damaged plant cells break down sinigrin (a glucosinolate) to produce allyl isothiocyanate (mustard oil), which irritates the sinuses and eyes. Once grated, if not used immediately or mixed in vinegar, the root darkens and loses its pungency and becomes unpleasantly bitter when exposed to air and heat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseradish
  4. Did you get a big thick part of the root ? where it's 'woody' ?
  5. I can't believe it - that's exactly where my mind was going.
  6. Yes and yes - I've tried to keep as faithful as I can to TOMO's original at this stage. The fence was originally just the two aoutside ones but I had to close the gap up a bit because our cat stuck his head in it when I was taking the first set of pics. The wire isn't really strong enough to form a solid roof either so if it was lower I think it would probably just bend at the instant of 'bounce'. It took what to MK6 ? to get the seesaw right. Loads more fun to be had with this yet.
  7. I was very impressed by TOMO's simple squirrel tunnels in his earlier post and I asked him for a bit more info on the size and shape. Inspired by his idea I've had a go at one of my own, which I realise might me a bit over engineered in a typical John B fashion. Anyway it's built and off to be deployed, so we'll just have to wait and see.
  8. There is an important principle that people need to understand here that applies to a lot of legislation. The acts such as Hunting With Dogs and Wildlife and Countryside tend to start from a basis of an outright ban and then work backwards. For example hunting any mammals with dogs is banned. That's the start point that everyone should work from. However there are then 'exemptions' which are special cases where a particular activity is made legal - it's allowed. So the way the law works is that if you can't find and evidence the 'exemption' to hunt under, it's illegal. There's no
  9. well done mate. Keep at it, they just keep coming this time of year
  10. I think it's just because they are old pictures - I can't see one of the ones MT is having trouble with either. When people have donated they get the option to load pictures directly. Otherwise they're hosted on one of the picture sites and I would imagine they clear down old pics that haven't been viewed in a given period.
  11. Just got my book thanks - lovely copy, very pleased.
  12. Hi VV - welcome aboard Which part of the states are you from ? What do you go after ? Cheers, John
  13. Well I can tell you that they are out of season now http://www.defra.gov.uk/paw/publications/law/appenda2.htm

  16. Clever sod. You said you were going to give that a try so well done mate.
  17. I think there is a difference in scales there TFS. Ditch's look like fish scales and I'm guessing they've been excreted by a mink Your stuff looks bigger and jelly like - almost fungus or frogspawn typematerial
  18. He's not on your buddies list, but you're on his I suggest you add him, then you can block him
  19. I'd do the same too mate There is an interesting thread on pigeon trapping that you might want to look at - it's in the designs subsection http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=17850
  20. At the risk of being a kill joy, can I just remind everyone that any tuning that takes the power above 12 Ftlb would mean that an FAC was required.

    whats this

This is what a trumpet fish looks like - if it's any help http://www.finerareprints.com/animals/hist...urelle/8973.jpg and trying to keep up, this is a Pipefish pic http://www.usm.edu/gcrl/gallery/view_photo...pe_fish_in_hand
  22. Something like the BASC could probably give you the best advice on that mate. Probably give you an idea on how many they've worked on and the success rate.
  23. It's a real problem isn't it ? especially around nesting time. Just goes to show how important it is to check your traps frequently. This one was similarly released unharmed
  24. Nice going sean - looks good so far Have you decided where the door is going to go ?
