  1. What size shot are you using in the .410, i tend to use the 2 1/2" no 5s in favour of 3" 6s just more clean kills. Possibly those are Damsons. but im no expert, have a look first in a book before you eat one on my account
  2. I think thats a deffinate plus! lol. How did you find the course, im presuming thats the honours degree? Depending on my results next year i'll either be looking to go straight into that or maybe the foundation degree then the "top up" if i dont do so great. RAC is on the 21st of this month. Im still waiting for confirmation from harper adams.
  3. You'll be fine, have you thought of a long net around the shed? i always give my ferrets a bit of food before a days work so if they kill they dont stay down and i've never dug a ferret out (not starting this again). if they do get stuck you can always up lift up the floor boards and replace them again or move the shed.
  4. Try to stalk up on them before they know i'm there. If im bolting them i tend to use the shotgun
  5. I like slugs and snails. bit of pest control included
  6. after speaking to a gunsmith, i ended up with some express hevi-shot 2 3/4 super game in no 3 (3.2mm). should be good to see how they work.. I'll keep you posted
  7. Thanks guys, all those comment where really appreiciated and very pleasing to read, thanks again. I dont think im as worried about applying now, infact im hoping to do it as soon as i got some money....im not holding my breath though lol. Goin to clear it with the main bit of rabbit shooting i have on sunday, as well as about coming down unsupervised (im going to be driving soon so wont have to rely on my uncle or dad to drive me there and back). I'll keep this thread in mind and i'll post any news i get. Thanks again everyone.
  8. Thanks for everyones replies, I'll write to my FEO, he seems a really genuine guy. The reason i was worried was because of my age, and the concerns expressed by the firearms team of when i brought my shotgun (A hand made english sbs double trigger sidelock....hardly the weapon of choice for a thug...if you know what i mean) made me feel like i was under more scrutany than someone older than myself, which is partly acceptable, i understand they have to be careful where young people are concerned, but i was worried what these concerns would make it more difficult for me to get a rifle.

  10. Lem oil does have a tendancy to dry the wood out, lin seed is better on guitars just takes longer to work in. (i used to restore and repair guitars and other string instruments) i take it the stock is walnut, so why not use walnut oil. and if its too glossy, rub it down and then apply the oil, thats my RWS Excalibur with oiled walnut stock and its not glossy nor is it too matte.
  11. Is that all i need? luck? doesnt look promising knowing what my luck is like lol. thanks
  12. Cant stand tabloids for all those reasons, in that article it said that she escaped with no conviction...the next line had a quote "This is a clear message to all those who course will be punished and no-one is above the law".........thats not how i read that, i read it to show the law is unworkable and pointless. I like the "real paper" the other day The Guardian had several articles on how important grouse shooting is to the countryside....it was a pleasant change from the norm of "all hunters are savages" type articles in the mirror and other comic books.
  13. I warn you this maybe a bit long-winded, but i thank any replies i get, As i really am serious about this. To give you the back ground. I am currently 17, have owned a SGC since i was 13-14 and its up for renewal when i hope to apply for a contermious SGC/FAC (expires mid january, im 18 3rd February). I am the only one in my household to hold a SGC and have experience of guns. My experience of hunting and shooting comes from my uncle who was a DIY gamekeeper and would take me along from the age of 3 ( he made me a stock for a 9mm garden gun so i could shoot the rats under supervision) and
  14. Well...Godzilla has to be dealt with one way or another....We've all seen the film, that American military didnt do jack
  15. Well....That will only make my reply look like crap... i thinnk it depends on conditions, if you have a very mild winter they may only stop breeding in the coldest few months, i know that if the conditions are not right for the rabbits offsrping, they can "terminate" a pregnancy and reabsorb it.... It depends on where you are and what its like there.
  16. HPRs (i have a GWP x Brittany spaniel...so HPR x HPR) Do tend to "range" further than the like of springer, but my experience is that my dog is alot more thorogh than springers, but will not do the thick stuff as well.
  17. I'll take two dozen, in one week, a friends shoot has had poults nicked and pens smashed up, ferrets and chickens stolen, also at the fishery had poachers clear part of the lake....think these could be the answer.
  18. That may be so. But, my gun doesnt have 3 1/2" chambers, it has 2 3/4. Also, im not sure i can put steel through my barrels as yet, so for geese putting size 3s or 2s through 1/2 choke seems bit much.
  19. Not sure about the SWB but, i used to do a bit of off roading with my friend in a LWB auto, hardly the first choice, but it did alot better than some of the other makes like land rovers and suzukis...just because they couldnt control it. We rolled it last week....not that the car has a tendantcy to do so, but Youth + Off-road = well you can only guess. they have replaced it with anothe Paj but a manual this time so that can only be of credit to them
  20. try sportsdirect.com or co.uk. i brought a pair of walking boots karima (or something) waterproof, comfy, breathable for £17, best bit it the rrp is £
  21. Oh yeah no red squirrels for miles, as i said i do sometimes use a pcp but they have a nasty trick of goin the other side of the tree and giving me the run around...the .410 allows for a quicker shot before they realise whats what...and as i said... I just love using my .410 so its a good excuse to use it and leave the 12 bore in the cabinet
  22. I have used steel in my trusty but very "agricultural" baikal, for my fishery and even close in i had real problem killing them out right, one had an obvious hole in it head bleeding but was still flapping around on the water. My gun is circa 1986, i was only told i couldnt use steel because its an English made gun. I dont supose you know what pressure is ok to use?
  23. Will do. Well from what i've heard it has a reputation of all the rich horsey girls go there to find a rich husband....well they wont know im skint
  24. Cheers rod&dog, i used the search bit but after checking every thread for 4 pages...it stared to wear a bit thin. i think i might try it...but better not work to well...i still wanna have some sport with the .410
