Can it be done? if so whats the best way to do it and would i need a ladder? On my permision there is about half an acre of wood with loads of squirrels (im sure this is where they nest) and leading from this wood is a tree line which they use to get out in to the feilds and steal the fruit. i've tried hiding up...nothing even with bait. Traps such at kania are out of my budget and seeing as this is more a favour for the farmer as thankyou for the rabbit control. i 've tried shooting the dreys but limited success i.e only one or two shot and the rest bugger off. the best results has been w

Anyone in Land managment/ Farm managment?
Sterry replied to Sterry's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Yeah that exactly what i wanted to do, but im going to leave my options open, i've got an open day there next month, as well as Harper Adams, Sparsholt. but must admit RAC does look really nice. Also having a look at Foundation degrees which you can "Top-Up" to BSC (Hons) level....just incase i dont do as well as i hope A-Levels. -
When i go to the gunshop i'll take the gun in as well for them to check the proof marks, i hope i can use hevi shot too, used it once in a friends gun, really impressed. if i have to use bismuth im not too fussed thats what i used in the 20 for ducks as non-toxic for that was extorsionatly expensive...one £41.50 for a box of 10.

Nope leave it till the first frost...turn your face inside out if you were to pop one of those in your mouth...need the frost to do something with the sugar content.

I've been looking out for some non toxic shot for my 12bore since moving up from my 20bore, the problem is that my gun is an English one. (this is where im baffeled) I understand that very few english can have steel put through them, not all that fussed as i think steel is crap anyway. But, i have been looking at hevi shot which i know work well, that said i have been reading up and apparently it is very hard...just like steel...So can i use hevi shot in my gun or not, i dont know how you find out if its steel proofed. my guns choked 1/4 and 1/2. thanks if anyone can sort me out

Those antis need to re-asses their lives. Thats ridiculious, threatening to kill the lads, despite them holding there own in a calm and calculated manner. I really hope those antis got what they deserved, either with help from the law or vigilanty motive.

Just more lead basically, denser pattern but you lose a tiny bit in the pattern i.e a few fliers but thats more to do with what choke your using. Given the choice for a all round cartridge PERSONALLY it would be 5s for rabbits, pigeons, phesant, (possibly bit much for partridge but on a mixed day...) non toxic 5s for ducks. just got that lil bit more "punch" but try a box of each and choose for yourself that reminds me....eley vip bismuth no5 in 20 bore are about the best non toxic cartridge at a half sensible price. just keep in mind

For game catrirdge shot size no.5, 20bore will be about £6-7 where as 28 bore will be upward of £9, all these are for boxes of 25....so pretty steep on the 28 bore front. I would suggest a 20 as you can always use light loads about 24g when you first use it the progress to what i used to use 30-32g....agreed thats alot of lead in cartridge of that size. Really think about whether getting a shotgun is the right thing to do as the police wont like granting a shotgun to "a kid" just because he wants one. You have to understand that age is obviously, not a problem as such but a bi

Can i be the first to say that steel is really not as good as the other non toxic alternatives (in my opinon), have you had a look at Eley bismuth and Express hevi-shot. size 3 will do fine but with the alternatives named you could use even 4s for geese, with the steel i think the shot size is increased to keep what kinetic energy it has.

As above, i was wondering if anyone is in the line of land or farm managment. I've been looking into this as a career and have been a look at a few universities, i have also been speaking to a few farmers. I would be really pleased if anyone could give me some more information on the subject... Cheers.

I think it was everyones first gun....i still got mine, and still use it....try guntrader, usually have a few and if not most RFD should have at least one in stock

Yeah, thats what i really really want , ( a beddlington whippet) but it would just be unfair on the dog with off to uni end of this year, but it will happen i hope.

If i were you i would wait a lil while untill your 17, then you can buy a gun and cartridges and use it without supervision, however even then expect a bit of skeptism from the police as they are obviously very cautious with younger people and firearms. If you have any questions, im 17 and had a licence since i was 12, but only recently been allowed to own gun, i'll be more than happy to help you with what i can.

I feel like bit of a knob insulting all these bussinesses but its just my experience, chesire gun room, the fella is first class (you know what), most arrogant, rude character i have met. as for targetsports of bolton, excellent service, even if i didnt quite understand the accent. and uttings also very good.
-
*shudders* id rather service than a few extra coppers in my pocket. personally....i avoid them like the plague!

Seeing as polls seem not to be all that popular at this moment in time, i thought id leave it. I have always used a .410 3 shot bolt action for bolting rabbits, but was wondering what you people prefer to shoot bolting rabbits with, i have a 12 bore SxS 1/2 and 1/4 choke, a 20 bore SxS, and the said 3 shot .410 at my disposal............(just cant wait to get a lil beddlington x whippet) cheers lads and lasses p.s. I did use the search doobrey but that beared no fruit...strangely, i thought i remember a simiar post.

if you havent got that many guns in there, you could always slide the gun in side ways to allow for the scope

It difficult to say without seeing it, if it got removable disk strikers should be alright, but i would get hold of someone in the know, well worth the money.

right.....How much brown nosing to get me out of this one??? But i digress!

I gladly eat my words, i've always wondered how that warn thing worked.

I like to consider my self fairly mature when it comes to posting on this site, and myself being one of the "under 18" fraternity, see no reason why this section or any section upon this site being made unatainable to younger memebers of this site. Its fairly universal that airguns are how many people get involved with shooting, I for one think the more people who hunt and shoot abiding by the law and good practice can only be good for securing our sport in the future. Would it be possible for a "three strike rule" to be introduced, i.e two warnings for posting stuff that doesnt promote ou

I had a bit of permission next to Biggin hill and they were obviously testing out the then new euro fighter, and when that thing went over stirred up all the birds and had a few out of that lot.

Hmmm 5's for ducks !!!!!!!!!!!! lead no can't be - must be bismuth or steel. Steel go down 2 sizes is the guidance - bismuth can't afford them ! Yeah Eley bismuth... the only flippin non-toxic cartridges for my 20bore that wouldnt clear out the bank account. Steel is crap in my opinion, better off spending more and reaping the rewards. also i have english guns so i wouldnt dare shove steel up the barrel.

We used to buy all the old bannanas that were too ripe off a green grocier friend, just chopped them up, bit messy but they do love them, failing that try bakery for all the old bread and stuff
