Why utter bollocks Stubby? True its not a dead cert they will get ill but they definitely can do. the quote was aimed at the poster, rather than, the jill may get ill, the post had been written as though it was 100% gurantee'd that a jill will die if its not mated, Most owners know its not 100% gauranteed but why leave a jills health to chance ?

Does anyone else find that some ferreters are a bit to eager to start digging to ferts ? We took a bloke ferreting with us last winter on a few occasions we did big and small burries no sooner had the ferts tails dissapeared he had the locator on and was crashing about all over the holes we had to tell him to give the ferts chance to bolt them and to calm down the ferts we use are all normally experianced jills and beetween them there aint much they dont find this bloke was a digging fanatic and just couldnt wait to start digging ? Personaly we dig when we have to and not befour there do

How old does a ferret need to be beffore it starts working?
max abell replied to manksie's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
The trouble with starting them to early is you never really know whats down a rabbit burrie ? we were working three 8month old jills last year they had already bolted quite a few rabbits befour hand with older jills in days earlier so we decided to put the 3 of them down a 15 holer put a small trammel net round the burrie coz it had bramble on it Then a stoat ran out of one hole and down another we then thought OH SHIT luckerly enough the ferts hassled it enough and it ran through the trammel and gone THANKFULLY but it could have got nasty if the stoat had got cornered with the jills o -

Trust all ours about 99% they are handled numerous times through the day by myself and my 21 yr old daughter who loves the ferts to death more than her boyfriend so he says anyway LOL she is always kissing em and she never gets bitten even when she handles really young kitts the jills are quite happy to let her do it The reason i say 99% is ferts are like people they can get the odd moody on exspecialy in breeding season and i personaly have been nipped but not savaegly bitten ever by any of my ferts but my daughter has never even been nipped

Any one know of any game dealers near colchester?
max abell replied to unlacedgecko's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
cheers mate, but ive already given him a call. has some in stock at the mo, and only takes a few at a time. the golf course where i have permission is over run at the moment. went for a walk last night with the shotgun at dusk, no light, and shot 14. green keeper wants as many gone as possible, so need some where that will take a few, as will be snaring as well as shooting. Ug The trouble is a lot of butchers wont take shotguned ones some will take rifle head shot ones but if you are lucky to find an outlet they only seem to want ferreted or snared ones they have got a point i -

Feed mainly fur and feather in the winter and about 50/50 raw and dry in the summer We do try and feed any jill with kitts fur and feather only even in the summer although with the flies can be a pain but i do like my kitts reared on fur and feather if poss We do keep a large bin with a 50killo bag of james well and a 15 killo bag of go cat dry mixed together the ferrets are always alert healthy good teeth and rearing to go in an ideal world fur and feather are better but good quality dry food is a good alternative We have a 10 yr old and a 9 yr old jills so they are not doing bad on th

Who accually gives their ferrets exercise?
max abell replied to RaiderBoy's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
The daughter gets ours out most days pulls a big board across the patio between the two walls so they cant escape and they run about on the patio for ages and when they go back in the court they run around again they are full of it -
The sad thing with these to***rs Is you can pick up good workilng ferts for £5 or even given to you for free some of my best ferts i was given by good mates and others i paid very little for As im sure there are plenty of others who have good ferts cheap or given to them So why does this scum feel the need to steal other peoples is beyond me

As soon as the kitts we breed this year reach about 10wks 5 of the kitts will be packed off to there awaiting homes and the 1 kitt we are keeping and her mum will be slowley re introduced back into the court with the other jills and the old vasectomised hob we put them in a small cage in the court for a day or 2 first then go from there touch wood never had any probs this way GOOD LUCK MATE
