  1. Hi mate we keep a vasectomised hob in with our 10 jills in a big ferret court all year round and have done for many years never had a problem we get more hassel with phantom pregnancies with the older jills than the hob he just does his bit and moves on to the next one that comes in season and although the jills dont hurt each other the squeeking upsets the wife and kid so we are gonna get the 2 main culprits spayed this year which will stop this

  4. Does anyone on this site work spayed jills ? we have got to get a couple done this year and was wondering does it affect there working ability ? we work 10 jills and a vasectomised hob having him done didnt make any difference to the way he works but being we have never worked a spayed jill was after a bit of info from any members who have worked spayed jills ? any info would be gratefully appreciated thanks

  8. We give ours crows rooks and magpies all the time with no probs they also like jackdaws woodies and jays the only thing our lot dont seem to like is game like pheasent etc A diet of fur feather and raw meat and a bit of dry food tends to keep our lot in good nik with no illnesses touch wood
  9. 8 to 12 weeks depending on how they are eating and drinking
  10. As kay said the hob was hyped up with chaseing the chickens etc about when a ferret gets like that it can change it from a placid ferret to a tazmanian devil in seconds It can happen somtimes if your ferret incounters a stoat mink or even sometimes a big rat whilst out ferreting we have had a few incounters ourselfs normally once the ferret is picked up and back in the box they tend to calm back down very quickly
  11. Great pics mate looked like you ad a good day
  12. max abell you are the voice of reason . and what about the undergrowth snagging nets & making the holes difficult to find and access ? Once them does are paired -up and in kindle they get very territorial .Often rather run deeper into the burrow and make a fight of things than bolt .Believe me an adult rabbit ,given a bit of manouvring space, will not always back down to a ferret .I've seen a rabbit hop out of a burrow followed by the ferret . The bunny turned on the bumbling ferret ,boxed at it and gave it a kicking . . Then there are the nests of juicy kits ,the easily caught a
  13. Personaly we dont ferret in the spring and summer for the simple reason of young everywhere and you will be constantly digging your ferrets out But we do lamp with the rifles a lot through the spring and summer and account for a lot of rabbits this way or we sit in the 4x4 facing 2 or 3 big burries and pick off what we want we do try and leave the does that look like they are feeding cos at the end of the day nobody wants to see any babies starve but even then occasionaly we do slip up as regards to shooting the youngsters once they are out feeding the answer is yes cos at the end of the
  14. I am sorry but as the reply from the one gave you the last thing you need is a ferret ! you need a lot more experience handling feeding and the genral welfare needed to be a good keeper anybody can throw them in a cage chuck a bit of food in once a day and get them out in the winter when they need them for rabbiting but this is NOT the case with ferrets they like human contact and socialising with other ferrets and HANDLING most of all this is how they get to trust you and you them I help as a co ordinator for the national ferret welfare society and have been nipped and bitten by the odd
  15. seperate them preferbly till the end of the summer else they will constantly be at it and the dominant hob will make the other hob very very sore they could even end up fighting so split them up is for the best you will be able to put them back together when the mating season is over good luck

  18. Hi mate good luck with your 1st litter of kitts but please remember handle the kitts as soon as you feel the jill will let you without stressing her out and handle them as much as possible a few times a day if you have the time this way the kitts will get used to you and who ever else handles them i am a helper for the ferret welfare society and the reason a lot of ferrets nip or bite is because of bad ferret management from owners who become scared of them and wont pick them up anymore because they dont spend any time with them in the 1st place there is no such thing as a vicious ferr
