  16. If you just want a "ferreters companion" I dont think you would go far wrong with a 3/4 whippet x beddie. My Rabbiting partner Magwitch has a 4 month old pup"Ted ",he is a Mick Brown Whippet x Gutchcommon Beddie and is nailing rabbits allready.I was out with him yesterday [see his post,in this section].His little fella was on the bunnies like a flash no hesitation,he made my 9 month old Saluki x look half asleep,if I d had room ,I would have bought one of the litter,Im very impressed with him.Inan.
  17. No wonder people leave this site ,with crap like this.Inan.
  18. May I say Ive allways been a coursing man.[re ban],so I dont lamp hares,I'm not condemning those who do,each to their own.Last week I was on permission, lamping,in the poor light ,and owing to my dodgy eyesight I walked out to three half grown hares, only their gait told me what they were, closer inspection meant they were left alone.I have friends who take hares on the lamo, with dogs that would struggle to catch a daytime hare, good rabbiting dogs though they are. Ive seen hares lamped, some run reasonably well and give the dogs a blow out ,especially if they have been in the beam before, others ,s
  19. Cheers Richie he did his usual trick of vomiting in the car on the way down and apart from him generally being a pain in the bottom to begin with he actually caught three two full grown and a tiddler without using any nets. Magwitch is referring to Ted,not me ,Ritchie,Ted did the vomiting,I did the catching, still quick off the mark at 59! Inan.
  20. Ive done a fair bit of judging over the years, and never marked a dog down because of scars that didnt affect its ability to do the job it was designed for, that said I never put a dog up because it was a patchwork quilt either, scars prove little the dog might just be a clumsy oaf who cuts himself on a blade of grass.Once and for all a judges function is to pick the best dog on the day ,based on its conformation, movement, condition, and temparament. A judge is not there to give his opinion on a dogs working capabilities, without seeing each animal at work ,he cant. A show is essentialy a beauty
  21. Personally I think Snoops advice is spot on ,give him a couple of droppers ,and when he is seeing and chasing bunnies daytime ,take him out and give him a couple of squatters on the lamp, only easy ones ,and preferably on roughish ground where the rabbit is slowed up ,and the dog has a good chance of making contact.I dont like to run two dogs together on the lamp, one it is chancy because of collisions, and two it can f**k up a dogs retreiving,,plus some jealous dogs will growl off ,or worse have a go at another dog that tries to horn in on their kill.I would go with Snoops ,on this ,its allwa
  22. Hope your dog makes a complete recovery,my oldest one hit a dyke this season, and collapsed a lung ,thankfully he is fine now ,good luck!Inan.
  23. Just got back ,gave my 9 months old pup a go, there wasnt more than 5 out on my little field ,he ran his first flecked ity and dropped it ,ran it again then it went to ground ,ran his next and after a couple of clumsy attempts picked it up,the others scarpered to cover ,walking back to the car ,he picked up a bolter while on the slip, just a night for education really ,I had a goodnight with my Blue dog, last night ,this was a learning curve for Rainer,[thats his name] so quite pleased.Inan.
