  1. That picture of you shows off your spare tyre Pat ,have you been at the Sherbet Dips again?,Glad you had a good day R and I did too after a slow start ,the ground was a bit hard so we stuck to the wheat and rape,I will ring R on the next farm up for some lamping in the week ,probably going to Cambridge with A and R Teu and SuffolK Fri so we will have to shoot mid week most likely Wed night will speak to you soon Inan.
  2. I have a whippet /bed x collie /whippet ,for rabbiting,he is fast behind the big ones ,but loses too much on the turns and 1 1/2 mins is tops, horses for courses.
  3. smoochers i wernt on here i will find the topic for you and then you will be happy, markdont worry you wernt the only one who knew my dogs better then me I don,t know you Mark ,so don,t have an opinion of you one way or the other,I thought it was a nice gesture to invite that lad whose dog was recovering from injury ,down for some lamping,I mention this to show Ive no agenda behind my question, which is did you get around to trying your dogs on the big land ,after the different quarry,?I saw a few posts about it and wondered about the outcome ,did it happen? Inan.
  4. Pocket battleship is the description that comes to mind,a female Mike Tyson, compressed power,I wouldnt worry if I were you.I think she will be well able to take what you want ,if she has the inclination.Inan.
  5. I only have personal experience of dogs as that is what I keep ,but friends in the coursing world, pre ban, invariably plumped for a bitch the reasoning is that the bitches are more precoscious than the dogs ,and come to hand quicker,"deadly than the male syndrome I expect" For example in the coursing game most old hands could rattle off ten or more very good classy bitches ,but might struggle to do the same for dogs,in fact the good stud dogs may have their reputations some what inflated because there are so comparatively few of them,I wonder if other preban coursers would agree with me on this
  6. I got my 1st lurcher in1968,at that time every other dog was advertised as a Stag hound x,usually inthe Exchange and Mart, the 1st time I went to the Lambourn show the over class was dominated by deerhound x,s,I think Phil Lloyds wife won it with a dog called Lucy,,Ive only had one deer hound x myself ,he was a 3/4 grey x Deerhound , a dog ,I only keep dogs,he was fast and reasonably biddable I never ran him on the fens ,buit he took a lot of hares on quite "big land else where",Ive seen quite a few deerhound x,s run over the years ,they are invariably fast ,and can turn reasonably well .depe
  7. I know exactly what you mean Swampy.as my mate Roger says ,"you have to have the lows to appreciate the highs".

  11. Magwitch and I were asked by one of our regular Farmers to ferret a bank on his brothers pig farm,we turned up today, ran out two long nets ,put in the pugs and after about 5 hrs ,all we had to show were cold fingers and feet,we had seen about 6 bunnies run up and down the bank, hole hopping ,but we had none in the bag at the end of the day. Now before anyone says you should be on the ferreting section ,I,ll get to my point.Sitting in tonight I got the urge,[no not that one, that isn,t as spontaneous as it used to be], the urge to have a spin on the lamp,Im out with my 18month old dog Mon night
  12. Many thanks for the info,Baldie,as Im short 5 8 and will be shooting from a 4x4 I think the Ruger ,suitably upgraded would do me,plus I seldom take bunny shots out past 50 yds so the drop in accuracy shouldnt be a significant problem, thanks again for the advice.Inan.
  13. Thinking of applying for my fac,I like the idea of a Ruger for truck work ,nice and short,my mate Magwitch uses an Anshutz b/a that is very accurate. What do you think of the other semis on the market Baldie?Do they need as much customising as the Ruger, and are they around the same price when tricked up?Thanks in advance ,I know you know what you are talking about.Inan.
  14. Had a similar thing happen to one of mine ,out lamping he was on a bunny it went down in a ditch ,the dog didnt see the ditch ,hit the opposite bank and collapsed his lung, made a full recovery ,but very nasty at the time all the best with your fella.Inan.
  15. The flowers on the dead rabbit, are anice touch RI P Brer.
  16. it does go on your record and like you say he shouldn't have accepted one, i can see why he accepted it guns in your face, and just wanting it all over thats what the cops what you to think or they would have to explain the expense of an armed response est. Yes ,I expect he was a bit rattled at the time, maybe someone saw them with guns and phoned the plod ,but it all seems so over the top to me,one day someone legally minding their own business is going to be confronted by these swat team heroes, panic and get blown a way,I accept that they have a difficult job to do ,especially with terror
  17. Hi Mush The man in question is getting on in years,,in his prime he posted a challenge to anyone with a long dog for a best of three match ,I say this to emphasise he is a serious coursing man.Apparently the armed response team came out ,tried to do him for coursing,,they were then told they were rabbiting ,and with the ferrets and guns this would have been hard to dispute ,probably, and I am only surmising this ,they realised they had no case for hare coursing ,so they then told him it was illegal to course rabbits, maybe as they were "armed response " they wern,t too clued up on the hunting a
  18. Another one of your lectures disguised as a post. I dont know which pm's you have been reading but they were not mine! probably you senility again. You did not agree with my opinion so you threw insults and tried to take the water, very mature for a man in his 50's I do agree with you on one thing though, which is your getting very boring Joe I know you have a little difficulty in formulating sentences ,but I didnt realise that extended to reading ,if you read my post again you will see I was referring to a pm I sent you not the other way around! ps Is all that training to compensate f
  19. Very nice looking bitch is she a half or quarter cross? Inan.
  20. Allright Joe last post on this,I haven,t spat my dummy out ,because I wasn,t annoyed by your posts, one or two were a bit comical,{unintentionally I might add],but mildly entertaining. In my posts ,I made it plain that I never condemned anyone ,and that the lads who slipped out for a run were by and large tolerated,It was the organised gangs that pushed farmers into requesting a "poacher watch " from the police in the Lincs area, that is common knowledge. When you have lost as much coursing permission as the clubs have, through the activities of a minority, you might have a slightly different take
  21. Please don,t worry about me so much Joe,I don,t take you seriously at all,if you can,t see when some one is gently taking the piss out of you ,them that is a little sad, still,"thems the breaks" .
  22. what do you feed him dry food mainly veg and meat know and then. How old is the dog? Has it had a collision with another dog or object? What colour is its urine? Does it seem in pain when it passes water?Meant to include ,is the dog tender around the kidney area?
  23. No problem to an old pro like me Magwitch ,you know my record.Undefeated at Welter ,and Middle ,only one loss at Light Hvy,unproven at Cruiser, but hey ,he might drown in my blood!.I have started training all ready, only two sandwiches for supper, cut the beer down ,I,ll soon be ready for Joe Couture. If I win ,he has to listen to a taped monologue of all my exploits from the age of 7 ,when I got my first dog ,till the present, that,s 52 years worth,of thrilling derring do,I will include my meeting with the late DB Plummer, and the time I said hello mate to Dave Sleight, and how Ted Walsh allways sa
  24. Guiness is full of iron the odd pint is good for you Two n ,s in Guinness Joe ,too much work in the gym ,not enough time in the classroom, naughty naughty, you,ll have to stay behind after school if you can,t keep up!
  25. So now we know you really are a senile old fool I give up youv'e exposed me! ps whats the significance of the Guinness motif.Im a real ale man . Can,t be you drinking ,an athlete like you!
