Aye there all here the now. Every year I find it incredible that they’ll stop off here on their way to the north. Some will stay and the rest end up where they were born. Amazing animals

I live in Spain and pay for water mate. Not sure where you’ve got that from. To add; Barcelona has the worst water quality in all of Spain and one of, if not the worst in Europe. Minerals and metals clog taps, showers, your hair and body. I’ve got filters everywhere and change them at least four times a year. If you have an old place you’ll have the green copper stains around taps etc… plus it ain’t cheap. Rivers are rank aswell esp’ after the annual floods. Fanny pads and bog roll up and down the banks.

That came much later (250-300 years) after Theodosius made it the official religion of the Roman Empire in the late 300’s (Constantine was the first Christian emperor early 300’s). Depending where I was depends on what I’d have done. Farmers used to like evidence in the beginning, once trust was built they’d tell me to where to sling them, which hedges/ditches/ etc. Golf courses, stables etc where the quarry was rabbit used to see the results after a couple of weeks. Plus I’d usually have a brew with the grounds keepers or hands after a mooch with a boot full of rabbits. If I was being naughty then nothing was left in sight or easily found

The clue is in the name of the type “terrier” Old Latin (terra) for earth. Terriers were originally bred as ground dogs as in mainly underground, if not first and foremost. Edited to add; I could be wrong but I think the full word “terrier” came from old French, which would be a derivative of the Latin terra.

If the urban foxes are bigger, then the obvious answer would be food. Urban environments offer easy food, higher calorific foods (pizza, kebab etc). Then you can also add that larger males would get choice breeding options, so t he next generation would carry those genes. That makes sense but with cats I can see no reason why dwarfism would occur. There’s no natural or artificial reason to explain it. Plenty of food, no competition, no hunting/culling of the larger members of the population (if it exists). With respect, it makes zero sense!

Evolution of a smaller species would be forced by either lack of food to sustain a larger predator physique or hunting to remove the biggest from the gene pool (like has happefed with African lions). Blighty is a perpetual buffet of deer, sheep, cattle, boar etc, so food isn’t the catalyst. Neither have any been hunted. So how can the evolution of smaller animals be explained? The pumard thing surprises me (not disagreeing mind). I would have thought a Jaguar cross puma would be more likely due to geography and genetic proximity.
