  1. I'm not too keen on spiders, but I love these shots They are all super, can't pick a favourite - they are all good!
  2. It looks like "Piptoporus betulinus" Birch Polypore, also known as birch bracket or razor strop fungi. It'd take quite a lot to kill you but it tastes like sh*t and is tough as old boots. Nice pic btw
  3. The only time I've used hydrogen peroxide was on a horse with a serious leg wound which was unable to be stitched and developed proud flesh. It did clear the wound and it healed ok, but for general cuts and scrapes I find a good wash with hibiscrub and a dusting of wound powder, with antibiotics if necessary, is usually sufficient.
  4. I think conformation is important but looks aren't everything. Most good working dogs are pretty well put together or they just don't stay the course. But unfortunately there will always be some people who insist on breeding inferior stock, and continue to pass on genetic faults to unsuspecting buyers.
  5. Give a dog a bad name and you might as well hang it... All dogs have the capability to inflict serious damage to humans, it's not just a pit bull thing. I guess the danger with these type of dogs is the biting power of their jaws, which is probably comparable to me with a five pound note between my teeth. Plus, along with rotties, and other "tough" breeds, they tend to be owned by "tough" people (twats) who think having a slavering brute straining at its collar is some kind of status symbol, and encourage the dog to be a killer. But with these breeds, there is no doubt that the killer i
  6. nice pics I really like the first one - it shows a bond between dog and human...
  7. Good grief... there was me thinking my dogs had quite a posh kennel...
  8. Good luck I've always be self employed and I think being your own boss is the only way to be... Depends on your area, but round here there is always work for gardeners and anyone willing to do odd jobs etc. Get the best tools you can afford and look after them. If you are considering tree work, then insurance is definitely a must. Don't think your age is a drawback as long as you come across as responsible and know your job. It will be a great help if you have someone you can call on to help you occasionally - some jobs, like fencing and tree surgery really do require two people.
  9. I hope something positive will come of it... too many dogs are being bred for what are considered "good looks" at the cost of their health.
  10. Um... read the manual? If you don't have a manual for it you can probably find one online - google is your friend I suspect the top button is for the basic camera settings - the head symbol is probably for portraits, auto is self-explanatory, m might be for manual, where you have to set everything yourself. The button on the side... probably for focus? af may be autofocus, mf manual focus? Just guessing as I don't know your camera, but I'd suggest setting everything to "auto" for now.
  11. Awwww... those ferrets Nice varied collection of shots - the highland cow is lovely. but my favourite has to be the bird flying over the sheep field. That is a cracking shot... feel it could be improved slightly by cropping and a bit of editing, but I just love it!
  12. i dont know how to do that? do you need a special programme? You need a photo editing programme like Photoshop, Paintshop, or Elements. Some cameras come with basic editing software in the package. Not sure about the freebies like Picasa and Gimp. Worth checking them out.
  13. Lovely photos. I really like the hurricane and red arrows shots, and that's a brilliant sunset! The misty horses one is probably my favourite though - pity about the wires... have you tried cloning them out? Lot of work but probably worth it.
  14. Picasa is quite good, Gimp is another freebie Photoshop Elements is not free, but is reasonably priced and will perform basic editing tasks with ease.
  15. Lovely shots - well done What sort of camera do you use?
  16. Nice shots. I Love the one with the bird Sometimes the best skies are stormy ones...
  17. Lovely autumn pics - wish there was a wood like that near me...
  18. The first pic would have been so much better if only the leaves weren't in the way... but not much you could do about that The second pic I rather like, bur it some more and make it an abstract! I'd chop a bit off the side of the pic so there's not quite so much empty space. The fly pic would have been great if it was in focus. Maybe you were a little bit too close for the camera to focus properly? Next time back off a bit and you should get some great shots.
  19. Both really... if you have lenses with an autofocus motor built in (most of them do now) that will have a bearing on the speed of focus, but it will also depend on the camera, and the way it adjusts the focus. Most of the newer cameras have different focusing settings for moving or stationary objects, with continuous auto-focus and predictive tracking systems built in. One tip for really rapid focus is to make sure your camera battery is fully charged, a battery at low power can have quite a dramatic effect on the focus system of both camera and lens.
  20. Rarely use it at all as I find it can blur images more than is acceptable for their intended use. If I have to I'll either apply a little noise reduction at the RAW processing stage in Capture One, or use Photoshop on the processed file. I believe Neat Image is one of the better programs if you're looking for a dedicated NR add on.
