  1. Cool shots Richie - I've been trying to get a shot of a drop of water with reflections, like the last, one ever since I saw some of the ones Alistair did... You beat me to it
  2. Doesn't surprise me - been hearing stuff like that about PETA for a long while. Makes you wonder what they do with all the money they raise...
  3. Funny how things happen! Lucky you had your camera with you too
  4. I like the 2nd shot because the light from the setting sun has turned a rather boring scene into something more special by catching the brickwork and window frames. Your camera has coped well under the circumstances. The best light for landscapes is often the hour before sunset or around sunrise, when the shadows are long and there's a warm glow to everything. Looking forward to seeing your shots from the woods Not sure how your camera works, but if you want detail in the dark shadows you need to point the camera at the dark areas and lock the exposure there (if that is possible)
  5. Brilliant! Well trained sheep too I'll go and strap a couple of torches to the collies and see what I can come up with...
  6. That's better. Puts the dog in context. You should never mess with a collie Unless you can run fast...
  7. Hmmm they look almost kissable in a slimey sort of way Excellent pics!
  8. Lovely shots of a very interesting & pretty orchard It'll be several weeks before we have bluebells here I think...
  9. phallic or not, tis a lovely tree... I love all the shapes of the trunk.
  10. Nice dog, but I preferred the original unmangled pic... You gotta watch them collies
  11. Your EF lenses should work okay - some older lenses you can only use with manual focus & some sigma lenses need to be rechipped in order to work with digital. The man in the camera shop would know if you give him the lens model number "Digital noise" refers to the nasty coloured speckles you sometimes see on digital images. Like if you look at an area of blue sky at %100 view you'll see blotches of other colours, instead of all smooth blue shades, which will make the pic look a bit dirty, like a bad case of film grain. It's far less of a problem on DSLRs because of the larger sens
  12. A "full frame" camera is one with a sensor the same size as 35mm film. Cameras like the Canon 5D & Nikon D700 are full frame. Explained here
  13. I think you'll be impressed by the Canon 180mm I got the 100mm macro because it's perfect for portraits too and I have to say the quality is superb. No comparison with a sigma really...
  14. I'd agree that Canon L lenses are superb - after trying the odd sigma etc out I've decided that even the more expensive models just don't compare with Canons. Canon has often been the preferred DSLR for professionals, probably due to the excellent autofocus sytem and the low noise levels. I'm impressed by the Nikon D700, but I've no plans to switch brands just yet
  15. Super shots - Look like they're enjoying themselves
  16. Lovely shots Kay, your camera does really good close ups
  17. Hope she'll be ok - I've never seen a wound that bad on a dog, but seen worse ones on horses which healed with barely a scar. Sounds like you're doing everything right for her - best to follow the Vet's advice unless you've lost faith in them. I'd recommend a buster collar if you've not already got one on her - the dogs hate them, but it can stoop them licking at the wound or ripping stitches out. Once the wound starts to heal it'll start to itch, and she could make a mess if she removes the stitches herself... Good luck - fings crossed
  18. Now that is close!!! Was it taken with the mp-e lens?
  19. That's different... i like it
  20. That last fly pic is really good Kay. It's an unusual angle - normally see them from above & head on, makes a change to see its bum
