    Very nice! I particularly like the dog head, when viewed from the side its just lovely. I've actually been interested in stick making myself, got a couple of ash branches seasoning in the shed, gonna have a go at them.

    I take the membrane off before salting. I imagine it would be very hard to get off if not unless you soaked it again. Someone on here gave me a good link to some pages about preserving all manner of skins, different methods etc. I cant find it on the net though.

    Spot on posts by simoman and richard25. American Pitbull? Seriously? Thats a terribly uninformed poll option. Pitbulls were never guard dogs. They were bred to be extremely human friendly. Any dog that showed aggression towards people in dogfight rings throghout the ages, was immediately killed and not bred from. Which is why the "pitbull attacks" don't make much sense other than being down to a psycologically damaged dog, or a dog that has not known any pack stucture. I wouldn't trust GSD's as guards unless you get one from proper working lines. You may think you have a grand guard do

    Yeah its a good idea to shine the light on toys, food, etc. I would avoid bringing the pup out for walks with the lamp just shining it on nothing, because then you can get a dog which could just around playfully when you shine the light, instead of focusing and looking for a rabbit. That said, even if a dog does develop that habit, it can be broken with some work, the prey drive usually wins over.

    I remember years ago in Primary school we celebrated either Australia or Canada day once. Can't remember which, or why....I'm in Ireland by the way.... Actually I think it was Canada day. Its ironic how Ireland (except Dublin city) has the most sh*t St. Patricks day parades ever. The last time I went to the parade it was basically a few tractors going up the road advertising things. Then some more tractors. Then some kids on quad bikes advertising them...There was an Irish dancing float too if I remember rightly.... lol

    Some are just stupid, like bones, scraps and fat like leegreen mentioned. That list is more for American child-dogs! My terrier x actually got obsessed with grapes for a while there, I gave her a couple and she would not stop at me for more. She's a dog who does not like fruit, too. Then I seen they werent good for dogs, oops... My doberman eats plastic bottle caps, bucket handles, and the occasional lump of concrete. (without my consent of course) Strongest stomach of any dog. lol

    I have this voucher, but it only works in Britain so I cant use it. For Eukanuba large breed puppy food. Worth £13.99. Its not a great food, but good for mixing! Anyone who wants it, just gimme your address and i'll send it. As I said, rescues get priority, but if none reply then it'll go to a normal owner.

    Yeah mate I can help you with breeding info. As for what the pups turn out like physically, well thats complicated genetics. They could look like any one of their relatives, more likely to be a mixture. Worker wise, if the parents are good workers, and the pups are trained right, they have a very high chance of being be fine workers like their parents. Even if the parents werent workers, a lot of pups, if trained right can be very decent workers, as lurcher work is based on prey drive which most dogs have anyway. Firstly how old are they? The bitch must be at least 3 before breeding.

    Don't suppose you could get a few seeds sent over to you, with Australia's customs and all...? Would be worth a try though if you really want sloes. I'll send you over some seeds if you like, in an airtight packet, and you can grow some trees yourself!

    Lurchers and greyhounds do seem to turn up a lot in the pound and rescues. In Ireland though, after greyhounds I'd say collies and collie crosses are the most disposed of dog ever. My God, the RSPCA seem to be causing loads of hassle in Britain from what I've read here. In Ireland they don't seem to be hassling people like that.... they don't do fcuk all about real cruelty though either, they just do 'their holier than thou' rehoming policy shite....

    It would be no use mate. Wolf crosses have been tried and tested and proved to be unsuitable for any work. They tried to improve upon the GSD and Belgian Shepherds to make dogs for police work. People created Canadian Timberwolf crosses - the Saarloos Wolfdog is one breed created, the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is another. Now they are recognised breeds, not crosses. A wolf cross is much wilder. Wolves are wild animals. Dogs are domestic. Wolves cannot be tamed in the same way dogs can, even when raised from cubs. They are very shy, and very wild.
