  1. When my old feller was growing up, (early 50's) the only type of lurcher to have around here (Lancs) was a greyhound whippet. He says everyone had one back then, there was not much game around then, so whatever you used to run, you wanted a kill, (rabbit and hares) And the sheer speed saw to this. He said if you got 3 or 4 rabbits then you had a superb day, or if you got a hare well you were a hero for the week! He tried the same dogs in the dales when he first started going up there, obviously transport was the key. He found the dogs superb for catching almost every rabbit that ran, but
  2. Cracking looking Jill that Tomo, and yes i believe it kills, is she quick?
  3. Cheers Breeze. That just 2 of the 4 hobs out of the litter, here's the other 2. The real dark one on the left is lightning quick, they are not that big really when you see them in real life, i'm just the size of Verne Troyer! All 4 are doing what they were built for, hit and erm, dispatch. I have an albino hob of a later litter that is stronger than these, still to test. These would be no good in deep warrens, with a few in them by the way, you could not dig fast enough, but shallow warrens with the odd one in, it can save a bit of time not netting up.

Al that dog looks dangerous in your avatar! No 1 dangerous dog even!
  5. Sorry to hear it. Hope you get sorted with more. Where you at? Maybee a few folk on here could help you out.
  6. I've had to take a leaf out of you lads books on the lower ground Tomo lad, jills are a must on the deep warrens with a few in!
  7. Cracking post Stealthy, bonus day out there! Should have traded the stella for the permission from the other fellers! Looks like the jill is rolling well now!
  8. I suppose a big scarred up bully is a bit harder to pass off as a rabbit dog these days with the law. They all do a job, and do it without any trouble, but i'd probs want something a bit more low key if I was to run all game in todays climate. But i'm only a rabbit man, so i'll shut me trap now!
  9. Same here Chez, not breeding myself this year, got 13 at present, maybee get down to 11 and thats enough to see me out next year at the very least all bieng well.
  10. Healthy and skinny are 2 different things.
  11. Got to be kitted out to do the worst Whin. You know the score!
  12. This is a really old thread guys, there have been quite a few since! But cheers anyway!
  13. First piccies were taken in July at 8 weeks old. Then this piccie from November. Crikey, they grow up fast!
  14. so its just a fetish then brim Maybee Micky lad, messing around with holes has always been a fetish of many men!
  15. It's the contact that is the probs for sure, i have a clearer piccie here. Don't think there is much else to go wrong with them to be honest!
  16. Sounds like a good critter to me! Doing what nature intended, no messing! (By the way lads, the old feller was a pit man, his old feller was a pit man, but unfortunateley they were all closed down before I emerged!) YOU WERE RIGHT!
  17. Same as DM says. Run her alongside an older experienced ferret. Not a bad age to start them at to be honest.
  18. Only one way at that depth, leave alone and keep your fingers crossed and sit it out. It's unlikely to be snagged on a root at that depth, probs blocked in behind a kill. They soon stiffen up once rigormortis kicks in. Being a hob, it should eat it's way out in a few days. Hope you get him back.
  19. I like to see the different variations, but it means nothing in the working situation, maybee apart from a fraction of a second reaction in a dog nailing a rabbit thats just bolted. What worries me though is people will breed them just for looks instad of working pedigree.
  20. Looks like the rozzers have been lamping poor innocent rabbiters! Hope they didn't use those alsation dogs to take the prey down!
  21. Nice one Andy, looks bleedin cold mate, there's been no let up in it all for ages now! One positive side, it should help kill off any mixi fleas that are just led around waiting for the next victim!
  22. The very same Shay. Have you had the misfortune of knowing him?
