  1. Whin you always seem to leave it late to breed stuff! Once again if you struggle, give me a shout!
  2. Seen it over and over mate. Good jills are hard to find, when you get a good one, never let it go for anything. Hobs seem to have the upper hand on shifting or killing the real stubborn rabbits. When i first started off ferreting 32 yrs ago (i'm only 36 now by the way) jills were the key to everything, no locaters and bolting was the norm. I't still plays it's part in today's sort of ferreting, especially on the deep warrens, creep up, net up, back off and put in the jill. If it can be dug easy, put in the hobs and just get on with it, maybee if it's tricky then go back to the old sch
  3. I think it's a good idea Whin, there is no better way to learn than go with somebody who knows the ropes. If you have the land to accomodate a group, then give it a go. If they could bring along there own animals to work, then with a helping hand can make things easier for them in the field. (Not sure how much you could charge thats all.) And if the conditions are not great, and rabbits are not bolting, then thats a typical day out in the field. Especially further up north from me!
  4. This cheered me up yesterday, my mate showed me it, I know it's a bit male orientated, but oh well! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf80jYNg8Og&...feature=related

  10. Just be patient with her for now, if it comes to the crunch offer a bunny up to her. I've known people, lets say, 'Get rid' on the first outing because of this, but i've had plenty come good after a while that did this to start with.
  11. A lot of young ferrets peep. Most grow out of it by there second season. The worlds a big place to them at first, so give them time to come round.
  12. Class photo! My old feller keeps doing superman impressions, but i never have the camera out at the time! Always tell him i'll catch him out one day!
  13. A whipper would be ideal on this bit of land we worked to be honest, i'll be the first to admit that.

  19. There has been in the past mate, knowing the land inside out is the key. Been on there over 18 yrs now we worked out the other day, I have a mental picture in my head of nearly every warren on the place, thats high ground and low ground. I know which are deep, which are shallow, which to work after heavy rain (They get pushed out of the drains into the warrens.) Which to work in snow. And most importantly, which to just forget about, some of the areas you are on to a loser from the start, and are lucky if you will see a ferret again ever. (having the right animals in your team is also a mus
  20. Got my ear bent on the way home yesterday to go out again today, (wanted to leave it untill tommorow, but the old un couldn't make it.) I told him I'd have a go on the easy low ground again. (knew it would be all netting up and bolting like last time a few weeks ago.) So the plucky little jill got thrown in the box along with 2 of the smaller hobs just in case she ran out of steam. Took the other young dog Robbie today, and got his marking off to a treat today. We netted up on these deep warrens cause they have a few in, and even I don't like digging to 6 footers. The old
