  2. Tried getting a piccie of a goldcrest in amongst some coalies a month or so ago, my eyesights that bad, (My old feller said it would happen if I kept looking at them!). Could not pick out the individual bird amost them all. Think i need a decent camera, that would help!
  3. Lovely tits Al! How many can you fit in one piccie?
  4. Nice one Magwitch, looks like a tricky spot to net up, and so different from the land I work. Keep the reports and piccies coming.
  5. Be sure to keep with the times if you do chose it as a career. It's an ever-changing situation, like with most lines of work, and health and safety. Just knowing the job is not enough in todays climate. Proving that you have been on a course, with the certificates to prove it carry's more weight. (And constantly updating them.) Bureaucracy rules in this land at the moment, and don't be surprised if your whole career is just turned over in a second by some goverment group. A firm may give you a start in this, learn how all this works before going the whole hog!
  6. Sometimes putting the end of the collar in the buckle, then slipping the collar over the ferrets head can make things a little easier, your fingers are not directly next to the 'Sharp End' then.
  7. Nice one Ritchie, good piccie as usual!
  8. Christ still 2 more years of getting bol##ings, and being ordered around like a dog! Must be half the fun!!
  9. Just the same here mate, only a matter of time before the last box give's up. Hopefully it will see the season out!
  10. Not sure to be honest, been looking at that bit for a while and leave well alone. Does anybody know what that bit is made of, and how it works?
  11. Nice one Whin. The big bags we had were 7 yrs ago, no mixi and we had our best dog ever on form. (best we have had in recent years is 70's). Thats the sort of work that shows you dogs that are more like machines than animals. Our best bags were in Feb, were on land that had not been touched, hit the 105 on the weekend, and the old man went out and hit a 103 on his own 3 days later, with the same dog, an same ferrets. (the dog was the key to this though, allthough the ferrets were good.) One day I hope to get back up there! Cannot see it being to soon though! 438 would take us a month o
  12. See my reply to S.S. and let me know how you train your workers? Stock from generations of good workers will produce a very high percentage of workers, which even in the hands of novices will work well. Why would nt they? once a ferret is entered into a warren theres not a lot any handler can do to influence it from maybe be 50-60ft away(not deep) The ferret either has working determination or it does nt, if it has so much the better BUT it still may not be a good top notch worker suitable for breeding from Y.I.S Leeview this is how ive trained them and its never let me down yet plenty o
  13. Fierce bags those Moley, how many of you were working the warrens, all 4 of you? 6 of us out on the big day , 2 teams of 2 ,plus old john spent all day gathering and gutting as we went,i spent most time taking pics and helping both teams,2 teams of 2 on the other day If you ever get the chance of a strike force like that again, then give me a shout, i'd like to be part of it. Our best is 105 with 1 dog and 2 ferrets, me and the old feller. a 150 bag is something else!
  14. Nice one Alan, you getting a locater with the xmas dosh now?
  15. I can see your point and agree with you whole-heartedly. In that situation I would do the same as you and have done so in the past. But to be honest I have had more pleasure now out of going out and getting half a dozen rabbits and hunting for them, than doing places that were crawling with rabbits and coming away with a van full of rabbits. About 20 years ago I was ferreting, lamping and shooting rabbits over most of west Wales I would get on the average of 2 to 3 phone calls a week off farmers asking me could I help thin out their rabbit problem usually off neighbouring farms to the ones

  17. Smart! never seen one like that. Not even had a black rabbit this year.
  18. Some of the best will come away during an ass on assault. Wait a few seconds and they will be back at them. They go back, and only out of frustration do they move on around the warren again, and thrive on getting up close with the rabbit!
  19. Give them the day off for once! Maybee boxing day!
  20. Could be, god i hate being wrong!
  21. I have only seen one exceptional dog so far, He was a complete b*****d, you struggled to hold him back on anything, he dodged the bullet a few times for his own doing, but at the end of the day, when he came good, it was that invincible mode that set him above anything else I have ever seen. I hope I see that again some day. We held him back just on rabbits, dog could have done anything.
  22. fecking hell whin 100percent but its going out to a lot of dead wood. And one or two saplings though!
  23. Merryxmas jazz, it's an affliction to be sure, thank your lucky stars he doesnt!
  24. He's pushing me to be honest, I'd be waking with a hangover on boxing day but no, rabbits are on the agenda! Merry xmas charlie!
  25. Also do you zig zag the longenet to catch in a few areas of the net, looks like it's been set that way. Would make sense if there is a lot coming out of the holes.
