  1. Hopefully all being well, they will have suffered in the snow as well as any other animal. Over 20 yrs on the land we hunt we have only come across a couple of the ferals until last year. What was there last year has obviously bred and slammed the bigger warrens this season. On setting 4 traps at the start of the season, we had 3 in them by morning. All albino's. The pheasant keeper at the last call had 27 at the last count. The moorland keeper? well who knows. They seem to live in large warrens picking off the residents at will. Rabbits will live alongside them, we've bolted as
  2. Oops wrong turn! She looks awfull pissed!
  3. Aye aye Chez. [bANNED TEXT] you up to then! Go see the old feller.
  4. Reading some comments on this thread really makes me shake my head. Do people think that most ferreters starve their animals? A hungry animal is not starving. Nearly every wild animal only hunts when it is hungry, not for the sake of it. Find the balance and maintain it. Everyone feeding there animals until they become obese is obscene. Have you ever handled a feral ferret or wild polecat?
  5. Took out the quad today and hit the high ground with the old feller, the three runners and three ferrets. Did not expect to see much or have a great deal of sport to be honest. The first day out in the valley bottom last week showed there was still life after the snow, but what rabbits were left would have been better off left. Today was the first time we had looked out on the high ground for nearly two months. Today the large patches of snow were still present, its hard to believe that maybee 150 feet in altitude above the ground in the valley bottom, the snow after near two mo
  6. The bike does make it easier for the old chaps mate, (Takes them a bit before they can control it though!) Its gets hard for the old guys with the cold and the walking. My old un had an ingrowing toenail done yesterday, but he's clawing the walls to get out! A bike not only takes the graft out the job, but just sitting down out of the wind behind it is enough on the bad days.
  7. Nice one Andy. Seems like the rabbits are getting a bit back on them. Whats with the spade getting used again?
  8. Nice one Stealthy. The dog is turning out to look a lot like our dogs. Hows she working?
  9. I use mk1's, they are great, but not made any more and are a slowly becoming extinct. The mk3 is the only real way to go now to be honest. (Even i'll have to get one in the end!)
  10. Nice one Whin. Any piccies?
  11. Nice one Magwich, the wet dog pic is a cracker!
  12. Decent size team you have there Salmon! Keep up the good work!
  13. Nice to be back out mate. Been watching your posts mate, you are doing enough for the both of us!
  14. As a few will know, i'm pretty keen on my rabbiting. Anyone reading the posts before xmas will have seen how often me and the old feller were out.(One day missed on a weekend since the end of Sept.) This year has been different. Sunday the 13th of December was the last time we were out, the old feller said we needed to get out as much as possible before the snow came. He was right. Probably only the lads across and above the northern belt understand what effect the snow has had on our sport. On the 18th of December the snow fell, pretty heavy. It does it a few times every year, and usual
  15. Had two kick out of my badly set nets today, watched them drop into the next warren. They bolted out of that faster than they came out the first time. If they have won a battle underground you'll find they will stay underground and try again, if they got away bolting, you'll probs find they will try it again unless they were really hard pressed by a dog or bird.
  16. Well in guys, looks like the white stuff has finally retreated to a workable level. You still got the other two Lofti?
  17. Alright John. Nice to see yer still kickin! Get snowed in did yer?
  18. Good result! Nothing better than seeing your own animal at work! The kid looks hooked now!
  19. if i lost this one our lass would for me.The rabbits were thin & some off them just walked into the nets B but a couple had a bit about them.... Thats good news then mate, sounds like the thaw came in the nick of time! May try a lazt day out next weekend and see how they have coped on ours!
  20. About time you managed to get the camera home! Were the rabbits thin mate?
  21. I'm in the same boat mate, Dec 10 th was the last time out, i'm no fair weather faggot, but 18" of snow is not ideal for any animal, hunter or hunted alike. Finally this weekend it has broke a little and green is finally coming back. Will be out at last next weekend, hope the rabbits are ok. Well in salmon.
  22. Have seen mk 3's used but never used one myself. They seem to do the job, and everyone that has used them seems pleased with them. Dont like the noise that comes out of one to be honest. (Sure the purists will frown at the noise too!) Can you turn the noise off? Here's the downside. You used to be able to pick a new mk1 set up for well below a hundred quid, (I know time has moved on, but the prices of most electrical equipment over the last 10 years has stayed the same or dropped.) wheras the mk3 is way above the reaches of a kid starting up in the game, and some lads who are short on cas
  23. Our lass says you're protected up to £250 with paypal. (She's an Ebay whizz!) so dont go further! Is there any way as a mod you could track this guy Stubby to help Andrew 2006 out?
