  1. pip 1968- That's what I thought. D Lloyd- I'm not sure it's been on cougars but I don't think it would have much problem with bobcats. bird- I don't know it's level of fight but I would imagine it kills from what I've seen out of other Airedales. Bobcats vary in size from region to region. Out West a large one is in the lower 30's (13 kg.). Here in the Northern Great Lakes Region large stars at 40 lbs. (18 kg.) and it's the same in the Northeast. I've seen 50+ lb. (22 kg.+) cats taken here. jack68- This is the only picture of the dog that I know of. Gaz_1989- Good po
  2. This is a dog that was brought to my attention lately. He's in Eastern Oregon but was brought up here from Argentina. It's a Greyhound crossed with and Airedale but the Airedale has a bit of pit in it. It's an interesting dog that is doing some work on bobcats. He sure is a good looking sucker.
  3. In the pictures I posted earlier, the fawn whippet is the Quixand and the brindle dog is out of Tony's whippets. The Quixand female is faster but the Lyth male is the better hunter. His downfall is most likely going to be impaling himself on something as he hits the bush hard and can hold a track for a good while. I was lamping around my property a couple of weeks ago and he slammed into a fallen tree. It sounded like someone dropped a boulder on the ground. He squealed for a good 30 seconds before calming down. I put him up for a week and he fine but I thought I was down to one whippet
  4. If your good at raising dogs, there is a good chance they are.
  5. The stag x collie pups should turn out pretty much like the gh x collie crosses. The only differences would be that the stag is spectifically bred for hunting instead of the track but carries a similar body type. If the can run a warm track I'll be very happy and if they can cold trail, jump and catch like the dogs in that Andrew's videos, I'll be singing it to the world. Edwards has had some dogs that fit this bill for a while based on mtn. cur crosses and could tell some good stories on the matter. Let's hear one Dan.
  6. I've hunted with a dog that was 1/2 American Leopard Hound (not a Catahoula), 1/4 Plott and 1/4 Boarder Collie. That one could catch bobcats almost at will. During one of her last seasons, she caught 9 bobcat on the ground by herself...unheard of! I think she was almost 100% for that whole season except for one cat in a tight spruce plantation. Bows to the ground and nothing but small rabbit sized runways for acres. Can't blame her for not locking that one down. My only other experience with Collie crosses is the litter I just made (American Stag x Boarder Collie). I have four of th
  7. That would be a sight if it didn't shut them up on track. How far are you from Jamestown, IL.? They are holding the Leopard World Hunt there this weekend at the Jamestown Coon Club. If I was going I would swing by and pick you up but I'm watching my daughter (1 year old) and can not make it.
  8. There are piles of running walkers that "could" catch but don't. The ones that can and do are really something. I'm having a good time with the sighthounds right now but I expect to switch over to the collie lurchers once they get old enough. We'll see where I go from there. I still can't find a soul that has hunted them on bobcat. There aren't more than a handful of people in the US that even know what is possible with a collie based lurcher, they all think the only thing they can do is chase something down after it runs out of a hole. That makes trying to find someone that might have u
  9. I got a buddy in WI. that did a 1/4 coyote, 3/4 mtn. cur. Caught almost any cat it was put on. He said they were so cunning and crafty there just wasn't anything he's seen to compare...unbelievable feet too.
  10. JRT x Running Walker... x Stag? That's it isn't it?
  11. E-collars are awesome! Every dog I own is trained to recall when I push the tone function. They hear beep-beep-beep and stop and come straight to me. This holds true even if they are in hot pursuit, treeing, fighting game, whatever. It is backed up by a shock if they don't respond but it doesn't take many lessons for them to get the picture. The key is to use the lowest shock setting that will get a response and never quit once you've started. A bad session that ends with the dog coming to you is better than any situation where the dog wins and gets away from you. Having a GPS collar on
  12. Ooooooo, can't wait to see what you've got. Nice cryptic picture, jerk!
  13. Wouldn't it be easier to just put them down and keep one if you want?
  14. As far as the coyote hounds we have here (Walkers, Julys, Triggs, etc.), I've seen plenty that were silent running. You can get them for a song as most of the breeders here cull them out. I wouldn't think it wouldn't take anything more than a good breeding with a greyhound to make sure to get more silent dogs out of that cross. I don't have any experience with the foxhounds over in the UK. I've got a friend that has a litter of pups that were born last November out of a greyhound female and a plott male. I'll get the chance to see them come up this winter. I'll take some pictures and
  15. Just think what would happen if you took an American Stag Hound and substituted it for the Greyhound.
  16. I'm happy with how much they look alike. In my experience, other litters that have been this close in appearance have also had a very good success rate in the talent department. I've never yet had a close litter like this all turn out to be duds, but I suppose it could happen. Good selection of the parents likely tips the scales in favor of a good turnout. Either way, I like it when they are close in type and conformation.
  17. Marvel- No kidding! This is NOT going to be easy!! Beast- The goofy one is acting like a champ now, the champ is somewhere in the middle of the pack and I'm not as sure about the for-sure pup. I don't want to have a big lightbulb running around the woods but the whitest pup seems to be taking on the biggest and most stag-type body but they are some dang close it's going to be a crap shoot. I've got a whole pile of intelligence tests for dogs that I'm going to put them through. That should make some decisions for me. It doesn't measure desire but it's a handy tool that will make a bi
  18. If I could afford it I would send a bunch of them over and let you guys sort through them. It would be really great to watch them grow up with a couple of people who have actually had lurchers before.
  19. For docking tails???!!!??? Are you kidding me? How are you supposed to get them shorter? They've really got a bunch of Sally's making the laws over there.
  20. Cross a stag with a coyote and watch the meat fly! I'm sure someone has done this already but I don't know about it. What I do know about is that a buddy of mine has crossed Mountain Curs with a coyote and got the coyote down to 1/4. He ran these on bobcats and didn't miss hardly any. Now that's something to brag about because there aren't many dogs in existence that can go into the 90% catch range on bobcat. You want to talk about canny b*****ds!!! That would be something to see. I will talk to some of the insiders and see what line is producing the top of the heap here and put up s

Dan McDonough, on 12 Sept 2013 - 12:49 AM, said: fkin hell, thats some serious dog shit to shovel / wash away! does any of the hunting you do generate any income to help towards the dogs upkeep? or is it all purely for the sport with no revenue streams back into the kennels?are the cows old stock direct from a farm, and as a matter of intrest, what would a cow cost and what condition would it come to you?, as in, dressed out? , skinned? Guiding in the winter, selling started bobcat dogs, some pup sales to repeat customers. I haul dogs when I go to the big events and spend loads of
  22. Spend the money and get 'er done! When you spend the extra money to get what you want you'll only cry once.
  23. Hot-Meat- What about 10 straws off of a proven reproducer? A little less risky, don't you think?
