  1. Didn't mean to be confrontational, it's just something I've wanted to do for a long time. I've had jagd's for about thirteen years and I've always thought that the real fast jagds would be fun to do this with. I didn't used to do much ground work with them but since I got into bobcat hunting with the hounds thats about all I use them for. I think a cross like that would be handy to run with the hounds when a little quickness in tight cover could end a race faster. I'm not looking to start a new breed or even a line of lurchers. If some folks want to join in for the fun I'll be all for tha
  2. That's more like it. Thanks guys. Scott, your right on the money. It's not like I'm looking to use any old Jagd. In fact the one I've got here would be one of the best bred Jagds in Germany. I was very lucky to get him and I honestly can't belive something that tested so high and has the ped. of this dog ever got out of Germany in the first place. Any how, at this point it will just be something for me to fool around with.
  3. Have any of you actually seen one? I would like to...
  4. I'm throwing this out there again in hopes that one day I'll find someone that has done this cross. I'm looking for some pictures or a contact that has crossed a Jagdterrier onto a whippet, gh, dh or some other sighthound breed. I can't believe that no one has ever done it but this is the third time I've put up this request. If that's the case...I guess I'll be the first. I sure would like to see it before I do it though.
  5. Chart, It's in the US and the dog has never raced but is out of a line that is famous for it. I'm just getting into this game and folks are pretty touchy here in the US. I think it's mostly because of the higher percentage of women in this sport here than men. I don't understand that but that's how it is here. I'll send you a PM with the info. I don't want to make it any more difficult than it's been to get my first dogs.
  6. I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me about it. I would have thought there was a mistake but I was looking through the National Open Field Coursing Association's website and I clicked on the race results page and there was a list of the top ten dogs for the 2011-2012 season. 3rd, 4th and 8th place (For The Year!) were whippets! I'm new to this game so maybe this is normal...I don't know. My impression is that whippets would not be able to compete with GH's and Salukis. All three of these whippets are closely related. Is this as impressive as I think it is? Here is a p
  7. I'll be going after some fox in addition to small game with this guy so I'm hoping mine is on the bigger end. I'll be awfully happy if mine is bigger than 22" tts but the mother was pretty small. I got the tallest pup that also has the most bone so I'm hoping he'll at least get over 20. The sire's is the biggest one I've heard of. I was looking over some of the open coursing results (hares) from the last couple of years (in the S.W. USA) and I was very suprised to find that in the all time top ten were 7 salukis and 3 whippets. That kind of threw me off balance. I wouldn't have guessed i
  8. There is a bit of show blood in there on the bottom of the dams side. The sire is all race dog and with a bit of non-ped. in there from a ways back. If it's coming from anywhere I would think the sire has a bit of GH if I were to guess. Here is a pickture of him: I almost forgot to take a picture of him and snapped this one on the way out of the man's driveway. It's not the greatest picture but it's what I have.
  9. Sire is 24 tts. That's a fricken giant. Extreamly well built though.
  10. Based on the age and current height, what should I expect? When I get a couple of honest guesses I'll let you all in on the height of the sire.
  11. I purposely left that out because the sire is big and the dam is small.
  12. He is a little over 5 months (born 6-22-12) and is 18.5 TTS. He was the pup in the litter with the most substantial amount of bone and also the tallest at 4 months old of his siblings. What do you think he will top out at and when? Experience helps and I don't have it. Thanks in advance. Dan
  13. mattdyski- I like that pic of yours. I cleared it up some. I hope you don't mind.
  14. He's saluki collie beddy whip grey The black and tan must have come in through the saluki. I've been watching for a while to see if I could spot a jagdterrier x anywhere out there and I was hoping your dog had a bit of that in there. Very nice looking though. While jagds are not that plentiful over here, there are a fair number. For all the game we have to run here in the states, the jagdterrier is the best all around terrier and if you can find one that can keep their head around other dogs they are unbelievably good and as game as any breed of dog living. At some point, I wil
  15. Well I bit the bullet and AI'd her. Your not kidding...should have done it several days ago. I hope it was in time, she was pretty near to being out of heat. Time will tell. That'll test your dedication. I got some instruction from one of the fellows over here and a youtube video. I would suggest every serious breeder learn how to do it. There are a lot less risks to both dogs doing AI and it would be very usefull under a variety of circumstances. Thanks for all of the tips everyone! I may not have used some of them but it helped me get up the nerve to get it done.
  16. This will be her first time. I got her about a year ago and this is also the first time she's been in heat since she came here. She's similar to what skycat is talking about. She does fine with other dogs as long as she's had some time to get to know them. She definately does not like other dogs getting on her or introducing themselves boldly. This Collie male I've got in with her is pretty spry but she can get him at will. No way this would get done without a muzzle.
  17. I have an American Staghound that is pretty rough when a dog tries to breed her. I have had her muzzled from the start to keep from getting my friends dog chewed up. This is the first sighthound I've owned. Is this normal or is she just a special case? I've been breeding dogs for some time but this Stag is a different animal. Any insight or suggestions will be very welcome.
  18. General Lee- Go to www.doctoryourself.com you'll likely never need the healthcare system ever again (for most things anyway).
  19. General Lee- I appreciate that, I wish I could take you up on that. I can't think of a better and more interesting vacation. Your welcome over here anytime too.
  20. I forgot to mention, I'm not even in the best state to live in as a hunter. I would say it's in the top 12.
  21. Pack it in man! Then pack your bags and dogs and get yourself a passport and come over to the US. I can walk out my back door and hunt East for about 1 1/2 miles until I hit a river. I can hunt 4 miles going South until I hit a very busy hwy. I can jump in the truck and go 1 mile West and I can hunt off and on (mostly on) for about 30 miles until I get to the State Forest and then it's all on for enough hunting to keep me busy for the rest of my life. I'm in no unique position. There are seasons for the animals (except there is no season on coyotes) but you can train on nearly all of the
  22. Nothin much better than interested kids. My boy likes the dogs and I have a girl on the way. I hope she likes them as well. I'm very happy for you.
