Spread the love man. I'm with you. Move 'em. You'll have to yell 4 when your dog is about to put one of the golfers on their a$$.

I could post a picture but just looking at it wouldn't help much. I know of a plott hound that has a coat that is just phenomial for protection. It feels like negro hair...like some sort of armour. Now, I would expect the dog not to have an undercoat but it does and it's a good one at that. The guard hairs are hard as hell but are not loose like a wire haired dogs coat normally is. The guard hairs are tight and hold close to the body. The whole thing is like a shell and is fantastically protective. I've not seen this kind of coat on any other dog I can ever remember seeing. I used to t

I like the looks of that one!

In which order would you breed them. I'm just guessing but I would think you could get different outcomes depending on the order. If it was Grey x Collie X Whippet, I would guess it to be smaller than a Whippet x Collie X Grey. Some one with experience in both directions would be really helpfull right now.

baw- I have not been on this site for long but I know one thing...you make me laugh out loud when no one is around and it's getting pretty regular, thanks! paulus- Good info. I've been talking to some of the cattle farmers around here and some of them have been putting it in their feed for years and swear by it. Your dead on about the crystaline form though. Good reporting. I'm going to put up another thread about H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) which is also very cheap to use. If you read through the applications for cattle, you can cross all that over to dogs as well. Another natural

paulus- Just messing with you. If it irritated your dogs, there's a good chance it wasn't "food grade" D.E. I rub it on their backs and dust their bedding and have no troubles with respratory irritation. I had a terrier that smelled the same on both ends and D.E. is the only thing that worked for him. For the record, I didn't smell his other end, I just made an assumption as to the connection.

I responded to another post about fleas but I thought I would repost this with it's own thread. We have very sandy soil where I live (Wisconsin, USA) and I have only lived in this part of WI. for four years. I had never had much problem with fleas. Well, that wasn't the case after I moved here. The number of fleas the dogs were getting was astonishing to say the least. I keep around 20 dogs and to buy frontline for them all was out of the question because of the price. I'm a bit of a health nut and do not want much for chemicals around my place as it is so I was looking for an alter

If we get off on polotics, this conversation is likely to go bad so I'm going to stay away from that now. Just so you all know where I stand, I'm very conservative if that means the same thing over there that it does here (that, I don't know). I'm for individual rights, a small government and many freedoms. For the record, what's good for me may not be good for you. I understand and respect that. Baw- I didn't mean to say that America is better. I just think it is...that's the difference. The silver lining...you told me some stufff about Scottland that I did not know. I appreci

It's not for everybody but there's a lot of it so there is something for everybody...not that your going to find it first time out. I know I like it, I can't speak for anyone else. All of my questions are generated out of curiosity and the fact that I know litte about much of anything over there. If you like where your at then you've got it made as far as I'm concerned. I think your reading into it a little farther than nessesary.

What's that mean?

All kinds here. Just like anywhere, you got to pick your friends carefully. Loads of beauties. Chasing girls is a good time but also a waste of time. Get a good wife and hit the field. I've heard the same saying from several smart old men..."If you want a good wife, don't marry a pretty women just make sure she's built right (for work)." Of course, when I was single, I thought about those words a lot. The problem is that you'll always have to look at their face. The body is going to go someday and then what are you left with?

I use diatomacious earth (food grade) in their bedding. It's like billions of little razor blades to any insect. It gets in the joints of their skelton and cuts them while absorbing the water from their bodies...dead! No chemicals. Just throw a handfull in their bedding. No fleas, ticks, mites, nothing. It's actually good for you to put a teaspoon in a glass of water and drink it too. There is some info about this stuff on the internet if your curious. I order mine on the internet for around $50 for a five gallon bucket. It looks like flour. I don't know what that converts to in poun

My bitch isnt keeping or putting weight on
Dan McDonough replied to wardman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have not had much for problems with pups getting cocci. Here, it's usually the young adults. I raise and train around twenty dogs a year and have raised and trained over 40 dogs a year...so I go through quite a few. Once in a while one of the older dogs will need touching up for cocci but not very often. -
Tomo- The big guy here is certainly not what you might see on the tv. There is a couple of sites to check up on him. I think brightbart.com or something like that would be a good choice. If you check in at godlikeproductions.com you will get a pretty good picture about a lot of stuff from an american prospective. You'll have to wade through some b.s. there but there is so much good inside info there it's worth it. I know of no better site than that one. Be warned though, there are a lot of kooks there and don't click on any questionable link until you get to know the site. The governme

Bryan- Please don't judge the US by looking at the state of California. Most people wish that state would hurry up and drop off into the ocean already! CA is as close to a socilist republic as you can get here in the US. Check out N. Dakota...almost no gun laws. My friends and I used to go there to hunt coyotes on the plains because you can park your truck in the middle of the road and start shooting out your window. I think you'd get the death penalty in CA for that. CA is the worst state in the country but was even worse is that they have some of the best hunting in the country also.

I'm going to look into it. I don't see another way to get the opportunity right now. I've got to go and pick up a trapped coon from a buddy for the young dogs and stop off and get some mulch for the garden. I'll be back later on today. Just wait untill the wife hears what I have brewing. I think she'll like it. Maybe not in the first minute but she'll think about it and I bet she'll like the idea. You two don't have any kids yet? That sure would make it easier on you if you didn't, but still doable.

My bitch isnt keeping or putting weight on
Dan McDonough replied to wardman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Whenever I have a dog that isn't putting on weight but everything else seems to be in order it's nearly alway coccidiosis. The folks raising poultry and cattle know all about it. I'm in the US so I don't know if the drug names are the same but you can ask a farmer what they use for that. It comes from birds so it's everywhere. The treatments folks use around here are Albon or sulfadimethoxide. I give the same doses as I would for treating chickens. I use the sulfadimethoxide and just pour it in their drinking water and only let them have that for 10 days. I knew nothing about it but a f -
Tomo- I think gasoline (petrol) is at $3.85 and deisel is maybe .30 cents more. Not sure what that is in pounds (don't have that key on US keyboards). I think 7 pounds works out to be 8 or 9 $$ (not sure). That would keep me walking for all but emergencies. That's just insane. I would imagine that a good part of that was taxes of some sort(s). If petrol went that high tomorrow, the US would shut down and fall into a deep depresion overnight. That socialist crap is taking off over here. If we don't vote out the curent jerk, it won't be long and we'll want to move there. Of course, the

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. That makes a lot of sense. Things are tight over here too. Maybe not as much so but it certainly can be felt. This guy we got in charge over here is a real pile of lies and likely the biggest fraud we've ever seen. When I go across country to hunt usually pick up several dog hauls to cut the gas bill, sell a dog along the way and have friends on the other end to put me up. Somehow I end up getting it done but it's precarious at best. It would be nice to be able to just take off and get to sleep in hotels wherever I end up. Nice thing is...bobcats

I bought a farm in 2004 that came with 18 resident cats. In one week they were all gone. I had one jagd running loose along with a little mountain fiest. Not for sissies.
-
Do you have any other cats besides domestic and feral farm-cats? No bobcats? I saw a type of wildcat on a documentary once that was from somewhere over there but it just looking like regular domestic cat. We have several sub-species of bobcat, lynx, and cougar (mtn. lion). Every once in a while you'll hear about someone treeing a leopard or one of the smaller S. American varieties.

ferret featues- As I said, I've never been over there. In fact, I've only been out of the US once and it was on a 22 day canoe trip into Canada and I was farther away from the nearest house than ever. Why don't folks go to Africa to hunt? Is it all of the boarder crossings? Political brick walls, so to speak? If I want to get in my truck tomorrow and drive to Chili (the fartherst South you can drive from here) I could do just that (I think). Sure, there are some things to watch out for along the way but it's possible. I'd have to figure out when the coolest time of the year is and just

I doubt I'll ever get the chance to come over there and go hunting with some of you (not that I wouldn't want to) with the way the world is shaping up lately. Even with all of the differences, I would like to see it and get the experience. Where lurchers are concerned, there is just not much of it here. Not compared to most other types of hunting. It's all very interesting. Do any of you venture down into Africa to screw around with all of the different varieties of game they have there? How long would you say it took to drive to the edge of Africa from there? That's one th
