Idiots...FIRE THEM...Do not give one inch!
Dan McDonough replied to Dan McDonough's topic in General Talk
I do feel better...well I did until WILF really made me feel bad for all of you folks over there. It's not like there aren't laws governing the rights of the employers ability to fire an emplyee but I forgot just how far gone they are over there. Don't let that shut the spirit of the idea down. You all know what I mean. "Don't give an inch" extends into all other parts of life not just firing people. For example: Some calls you a homophobe. What do you do? You know damn well your not afraid of some homo...it doesn't even apply or make sense if you think about it. That doesn't mean -
Idiots...FIRE THEM...Do not give one inch!
Dan McDonough replied to Dan McDonough's topic in General Talk
It can never be about what someone else will or won't do...only about what you will or won't do. If you want to loose than try to loose. If you want to win then try to win. -
I don't know how this will be received being I'm an outsider. But considering the political landscape here in the US, I'm sure you all can imagine where I'm coming from when I say this. FIRE them! Don't sell them a thing! Don't help them! Go out of your way to make their life harder! I'm talking about the liberal progressives here. I'm talking about the winers, the fags, the nosey people, most of the women and half of the guys. I'm talking about taking back your world! The animal rights people don't give a crap about the animals, they just don't want you to have them. It's n

Has anyone seen this race whippet?
Dan McDonough replied to Dan McDonough's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
They may be registered both ways, I'll check into it with the breeder. I think they have been trading dogs back and forth for some time now. -
Has anyone seen this race whippet?
Dan McDonough replied to Dan McDonough's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
He's 20". I have talked about this family of whippets on a couple other threads. Something I would like to point out again is that the top ten dogs in the National Open Field Coursing Association for the season consisted of 7 salukis and 3 whippets. All three of those whippets came from the QuiXand kennel (USA). When I check out race resluts across the various racing organizations here, if there is a QuiXand dog in the race it usually wins. -
Quixand Fallout Boy (Milhouse)- This dog is over in Holland on loan from the US. I would like to see how he is doing. Also, is there a website for keeping up with this sort of information about race dogs there in the UK?

Jagd terrier for ground work??
Dan McDonough replied to EnglishBulldog's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Jykke- I did say "some" as folks will forever remember you as a fool if the one they get is not exactly as described. I've owned right around 30 jagds and what I say is from experience. Some are fantastic but it may take a few to get one of those good ones. -

You'll mesure drive by what you see in this breed and you'll not make it home without some sort of adventure. Give it a go. -
Jagd terrier for ground work??
Dan McDonough replied to EnglishBulldog's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Some are but the downsides are that some are to big in the chest and some will kill underground and come out without the critter. They can do anything a hound can do above ground if they will tree but not all of them do. -
They'd be doing it if they could...not that I don't appreciate what it takes to make a real old time lurcher. If I were poor and had to live by my whits, I would start right from a pup and have at the old school way. If I can get my stag bred I might do it that way anyhow. For now I'm just a man with a stag, a whippet and some ideas.

They aren't going to ban guns. I'll tell you what though, if we could take womens right to vote back, we'd have this thing licked. You guys should try that over there. That's where most of this started. If they would stop ignoring the facts about gun control, they would put armed guards in every school. WWIII is just around the corner so I think things are going to get weird over here.

The reason lurchers are not more popular here in the US is that most folks don't have to sneek to do much of anything. There seems to always be something to run leagally and when nothing else is on there's always coyotes. No season, no limit in most places...

lurcher won't stop pulling
Dan McDonough replied to Bullhunter's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
When your in the field you make do with what you have. One thing that has always worked for me is to break off a thin branch with some very small branches near the end (kind of like a big fly-swatter). When the dog gets ahead of your legs give him a swat across the muzzle. Keep on him and make sure you always win. It may be on the first day, it may be on the thrid, it may take longer than that but that dog of yours will eventually give in and accept that he's not going to be doing the leading. Be patient and don't get mad, eventually it will go the way you want. Hope this helps. Good lu -
bluecollar- Agreed. As long as I get 1 of what I'm looking for I'll be pleased.

That would be a discouraging. I don't thin I'd like the cross if the wrestling talents of the jagd didn't get passed on but I would think there would be at least one accepatable pup that might come out of that (with some size). The jagd in that picture looks just like my old Raven female...awsome dog. I should have known you might be the guy who had at least made the attempt. In other news, the breeding I did on that stag female didn't take. I don't think it had anything to do with the method, that all went really well, I think I just waited to long. She should have ad her pups about

Is that from the airdale?

Very interesting!! I was thinking about this a while and I don't know if I could come up with anything that would really be better than a Stag with a nose..at least where it concerns coyotes. Now for fox, I'm still in the same frame of mind. I've got the whippet end of things wrapped up and I have a very nice stag bitch. I guess I'm going to be the first to make the whippet x jagd. I still can't believe that...somewhere in the world it has to have been done. Never fear Morton, the right jagd has enough brains for the job. The one I have here is not one of those mindless chainsaw typ

Dan- I'd like to see a picture of Junior if you've got one. Morton- In a general sense you may be right. A man with a sharp eye for the right strain of dog will prove you wrong in a heartbeat though. I can't convey to you what I do or do not know about dogs so there is no way for you to get a feel about wether or not I'll be successful. All you can do is spectate and enojoy a fellow dog man having some fun. I promise I won't try and get you to buy one.

I can't imagine that the rest of the laws are much better if they're capable of making some crap like that up. Ever think of voting with your shoes? Leaving I mean. That sounds like having a nanny well into adulthood...hence the name nanny state. The US is heading that way but nothing close to that yet.

Wait a mintue! Am I reading that right...you can't walk around with a whippet or a gh in the field? Please tell me I'm having a comprehension problem here.
-
Dan- What's the deal with track grayhounds? I have a contact for good GH's but they are track bred. George Bell has done well coursing GH's in the Southwest. From what I read his are a cross of track and show. That being said, I've heard some talk about a few guys in N.M. that have the fastest hardest stuff around. I have not dug into it enough to know what those dogs are made of but I'm thinking about it. I have a long way to go before I'll feel like I have a handle on all of this.
-
Redneck- Noted, good point for night time hunting. I hunt mostly in the day but I do go sneaking around at night occationally.
-
JJM- It's on my way to another place. There are a lot of ways to get there. One might be jagd x b.c. x gh. I just don't know at this point. I'm going to get some experience with the whippets and make decisions as I go. Any ideas you have will be appreciated. I have loads of experience but not in this area.
-
Dan- It sure wouldn't be my be all end all dog. Fact is, the more I think about it the more I keep thinking I'd like something a bit bigger. About a month ago I stood next to a whippet from the kennel you recomended that was 24". I wish I had one that big. I do however have open permission to breed to that dog...huge bonus. I also have a pup coming from the same breeding as the 3rd, 4th and 8th place dogs (all 3 are whippets, the other 7/10 are salukis) in the NOFCA (open coursing) standings for this last season. The idea that any whippet could compete in open coursing on hares with sal

Another thing, traditionally the lurchers are suposed to be quiet and not make noise when they run game. We don't need them to be quiet here in the states. We can run just about anything we want in season and have a number of animals that have no season or limit. Are there any other advantages to having a quiet dog?
