  1. many of you say they bree all your year round but its most noticable in spring so i assume they breed more in spring. as some said the chance of shooting both parents is remote but if you see one outside its nest (with chicks) after the farmer has asked you to shoot all birds on sight what are you going to do? be obidient to the farmer or turn a blind eye?
  2. to all who don't know roger has recently aquired a AA s400 FAC doing 26FTIBS was it?
  3. but you notice them with chicks most at spring. theres a pigeon sitting on a nest in my garden which you can get within 3 yrds of with it kjnowing because it wants to defend its nest. anyother time and they would fly off spotting you 60 yrds off.
  4. good shooting! what range? i have had 8 pellets go through a hole which looks like it was made by 3 pellets if that counts for anything.
  5. Hi, on the side of the rifle it says carbine. So I dont know what other mods have been done that it does not look like a carbine. Roger! my mistake! after re-reading your post i see you have what in britain would be classed as an FAC air rifle. the FAC version of the s400 carbine is the same length as the non FAC classic version. i can only assume the classic version of the s400 FAC is really long!
  6. simply for the fact you can rest it on anything, and shoot from any position without the POI changing, PCP for me.
  7. god write up. bloody hell thats a big lamp, what is it?
  8. hi all, im after a new sling and i have got my eyes on 2 slings in particuler, a super sling (neoprene) and a large leather cobra type sling. the neoprene one is £29 and comes ready fitted with sling swivels and the deluxe leather one is £32.99 and is very nice leather but does not come ready fitted with sling swivels. ATB Aaron.
  9. all responsible airgunners got to great means to get clean kills so our quarry will die quickly and humanely. so what is the point of going through a lot of trouble to make sure a woody goes down quickly and humanely when it means the chicks will die slowly of starvation.
  10. but those birds your shooting will have chicks which starve to death. the farmer on the land i shoot on totally understands and is fine with me not shooting woodys at this time of year. just this morning i was walking round the land and saw a woody nest with chicks in it and the parents were regurgatating food to the chicks. i would hate to see them die slowly because the parents were'nt around.
  11. hi all, i was just wondering how amny of you stop shooting pigeons this time of year? i do because they are raising their chicks and i would hate to shoot the parents and for the chicks to die slowly in the nest. i'll give it another month and a bit and i'll resume shooting them. thanks, Aaron
  12. nice write up. i stop shooting pigeons this time of year as they are rasing their young and me being a softy i hate to have killed a pigeon and for its chicks to die slowly in the nest. just this mornign i was squirrel bashing and a pair of woodys landed above me and i saw them walk to their nest and take turns regurgataing food to the chicks.
  13. i've got the deben tracre atom without the dimmer for £70 which is a bargain. it easily lights up rabbits to 100m with no filter, but struggles to push 30m with the filter which was a little dissapointing. if you can learn to put the rabbits right on the edge of the lamp beam you will not need a dimmer but having one makes lamping a whole lot easier.
  14. hi all, does anyone know how many grains bisle magnum .177 are? also how many grains are air arms diablo field .177? thanks, Aaron.
  15. ok here gos. precharged pneumaptics, pros: are excellent for long range shooting because they have no recoil. this means it is far easier to achieve accuracy. it also means that you can shoot from any position without the poi (poin of impact) changing (unlike spring rifles). cons: after a certain amount of shots you need to refill your rifle with air from 1 of 3 sources: a dive shop (for about £2), a dive bottle or a speically desinged airgun pump. the first option is the easiest or the hardest depending on where you are. if a dive shop is no more than a stones throw away then its fine. but
  16. see 'crows' a headshot is the only humane target on all quarry speices. just behind the eye will kill all quarry instantly.
  17. as redye said it all depends on how accurate you are and how accurate your gun is. place a target 1" in diameter at 15m. take 10 shots at the target. 90% of all your shots in the target? good move onto 20m and do the same thing. keep moving targets up until you can no longer get 90% of your pellets in the target. for some people, this might be 30m for others this might be 50m. sorry i forgot to mention, if you zero your gun at 2om (its hitting on the crosshairs at 20m) you will need to aim higher at further distances. this is called holdover. over time you will learn how much holdover you need
  18. everyone has different opinions on this but i do wash my pellets before putting them down the barrel. heres the vid: i use pellet lube or 3 in 1 oil instead of wd40. if you use wd40 or 3 in 1 oil put a very small amount on, you dont want to bathe your pellets in oil no more than a few drops.
  19. go get em'! tthey don't seem to bother the songbidrs round me as i have birdboxes everywhere and the songbirds are spoilt for choice. BTW thats a New Zealand magpie.
  20. there supposed to make they fish agressive so they lash out at it becasue its a small sparkly thing that moves. i suppose a silver booby could be mistaken for fish fry and i suppose a blob could be mistaken for a ball of daphnia.
  21. there are a lot of dvds but no many books. seems airgunning has moved into the DVD age.
  22. socks? missi? beauty? dog?
