  1. webley tempest Birmingham built. .22. good condition. bargain £50 collected or £55 posted, paid £125 from kranks few weeks ago. cheers Tom.
  2. up for sale a BSA lightening xl in .22 few light use related scuffs. stripped, cleaned, lubed and fitted with a new piston seal and brand new john knibbs gas ram couple of weeks ago (ram alone was £67) shooting at 11.6 ftlbs, accurate and very consistent. Fitted with a new Nikko stirling mountmaster 3-9x40 AO mil dot scope and mounts and also has built in silencer. It has a factory fitted QD stud built into moderator but stock hasn't been drilled for one. its got a lovely grained stock and has been well up to the job when used on rabbits, lovely compact gun, only for sale as have an SFS HW9

  4. id say anywhere between 15 /20 years they are full mature around this age and migrate anywhere up to 15 to 35 years of age it would be way older than that id say years old plus! they migrate between 15/35 years old then die Not if they are land locked like the ones I target. I was once told by an eel mad fisherman of over 40 years and he traveled the country chasing them that some don't get the urge to spawn so live in fresh water and grow to become the biggest ones that he targeted. He also said the average growth rate is around 1 lbs for every 10 years but not sure

  8. i hear an eel aught by john sidley weighed 7lbs 14oz and when the growth rings where counted it was aged 78 years old! his book is great by the way, well worth a read if your into eel fishing.
  9. i always return my eels they are in massive decline and are a very interesting creature, the eels I catch are around 4lbs and where stocked in the pond in the late 1960,s

  12. This sounds really harsh! For one example The old HW stocks where dark and deep lovely Finnish. I recently baught a new (ish) Turkish bsa lightening to mess with and when in the local gun shop looked at new HW,s And thaught OMG the bloody Turk BSA stock looked better! What the hell!
  13. Only just found out (on this thread) that the HW85 is still made and looking at that price list mark seems quite cheap. I wonder if the quality will be the same as an 1980s made 85 tho?
  14. Hi Simon it's nice to hear someone who shares same enthusiasm for them! Selling it was one of my biggest mistakes - I sold it to help fund an air arms S410 in 2001 and felt like I'd lost a good friend after a while! Just looked on gun trader but can't see an old HW85 on there at the moment. Good luck finding one if you decide to get one! All the best Tom.

EDIT: read it properly and didn't realise how long ago you guys mention but feel cheeky contributing to this - im only 31 so still a mere beginner to you guys! but in my youth (late 90,s) it was ay HW85 for me.   18. After watching the airgun show on YouTube Matt manning is the editor of the mag now a days some great vids on youtube. After reading stuff on here he uses the same camo net and ambush tactics as mark Williams of of here? proper fieldcraft fair play!
