  1. If the bible is the word of God, how many times has it been written, translated, re-written, re-translated, altered, doctored, adjusted, edited, readapted, readjusted, at the hands of man? Who's got the original? Science can't tell us what set the whole thing in motion, but most of these religious texts have spent more time in the hands of man being spun around and around. Books written at a time when the average age was 35, and when they thought the sun revolved around the earth. I mean am I seriously supposed to be believe that all the animals in the world lived a small stroll from N

  3. Possibly. Possibly some spiritual leaders too.
  4. I couldn't agree more. Maybe I'm focusing too much on the why instead of the where. Quite possibly. While I enjoy them personally there isn't a single one that can match this, IMHO It's a pure wonder of creation. Somewhere to sit and ponder the true beginning of where, and why! Agreed BH, I'm by no means trying to say which is right and wrong. I find the whole avenue fascinating. Learning what makes us tick, this way. It's something we don't fully understand, and maybe we aren't supposed to at our current level of development.
  5. Agreed but cathedrals and churches were mentioned as calming places. Why? Is it something that just is or is it an inherited trait from previous generations? I don't deny spirituality, never have. It's been around since we were able to look up and wonder.
  6. Fair point but what exactly defines the spiritual place? What makes it so? A lot of these places were built in a time when the church ruled. Designed to show the lord how seriously we believe. Many fine buildings were created. Could it not be our anxiety of what is after, inherited over thousands of years? Seeing the natural wonder of the world inspires more awe, in me, than houses man created to worship the divine. Is spirtualism relative to the individual?
  7. The only way they'll be held is if HM Customs & Excise believe you haven't paid a sufficient level of tax. But that applies to all imports
  8. I can't argue with that, but I have to say time in the mountains works better for me. So question... These spiritual places that we feel a bond with. What causes it? Do they contain a divine energy or is it merely an evolutionary response to 2000 years of christianity?

  13. Yep. You're absolutely right. This happened at a time when it was the best system I could afford. Not to mention 8 years ago. I could spend a small fortune on security. Cameras. Wireless access. Even go to the length of having a third party manage system and alert me when it goes off. It's still just a way to buy time until the police arrive and in most cases it's not fast enough to catch the culprits in action. You live and learn, and in my case move the f**k out! Yes you can, and like I said above it was the best one I could afford at the time. But what's the point when you
  14. That's how the religious define faith, also.
  15. Spot on.. I've said on here before I reckon politics should be something you go into after a career, not something you make one out of. There should be a minimum age limit of something like 50 or 60 before you are eligible to stand for election IMO.. The only issue I can see, with that, Malt is having a bunch of near pensioners trying to turn the country back into how it was 'when I were a lad.' Nostalgia is a great way of sifting all the bits of history, discarding the shite and repackaging it for more than it's worth... I think that's a lyric from a Baz Luhrmann track!
  16. Fair one OTR but I'd rather a 7st woman had a fighting chance against a potential rapist, than waiting for the police to arrive to collect DNA, and maybe a corpse. Force multiplier. Shooting someone over a stupid argument doesn't need to be anymore legal than it currently is and it sure won't make a difference to those that will stab, kick, punch, hit with a pan, anyway. It's not going to make a scrap of difference to domestic violence. They didn't turn the system off. They smashed the box off the wall while I was out at work. Security systems do nothing more than make the criminal decide

  18. Personally I don't care who anyone prays to. Or doesn't. Whatever gets you through the day is absolutely fine by me, providing it's between consenting adults. I do, however, draw the line when it comes to faith defining government, or national policy. Please don't make me party to your faith. I don't want it and I have every right to go about my daily life without it. Same as you.
  19. Council employees pay into their own pensions mate. Council has to pay employers contribution same as any other employer but this is not taken out of your council tax. Some Civil servants have a non contributory pension but not local government employees. The council exists as a service paid for from 100% tax payer contributions. If the money doesn't come from council tax contributions then where does it come from?
  20. In a life threatening situation? Hard to tell. I'd have more faith in a woman, with her kids in the house, doing the right thing than anyone else. Why not give her the force multiplier she should have by right? I imagine that woman on Walshies post was how most people would be thinking. The problem with pulling a gun out is a person is then forced to either use it of have it taken off them and maybe used against themselves. I'm be much more in favour of non lethal weapons like Tazers being allowed in anyones house but illegal on the streets, those that already have shotguns have t
  21. Unless you're around drugs, or money, the risk of home invasion is pretty slim. What about the risk of rape though? Mugging? Stabbing? Road rage? I hear what you're saying about the security aspect but how many times are people stabbed, with kitchen knives? How many times do kids steal their parents car. If you want an accurate comparison of gun accidents in the US look how many times firearms are used legally, by people, in the prevention of crime. If you're willing to shoot someone over the toilet seat, that's not a gun control issue. That's a mental health issue. How many people in
  22. Understood. I'm sure there isn't anyone here that would sit there and take it. But even if you get to phone the police before the crime is commited you could be cold dead before they arrive. What if you're out and your wife/girlfriend is at home alone? We've established that these people prey on the weak so what is wrong with equally, even surpassing, these odds?
