  1. There still in the wash but they'll something like this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Hah, nerd, LOL. My mother and father visited Patterdale a few year back and took a photo of the sign post. I have it on my fridge, LOL.
  3. Nope, not another thread on what trousers to wear digging. I was digging to a terrier this morning and it soon became obvious that this corner of a field had been used a long time ago as a bit of a dump. I found old pipes, an old rat trap and sheets of asbestos as I went down. I crowned in about a foot behind the terrier and here on the face of the dig, above the terrier, I could see some cloth. I went to chop a bit of the tunnel roof above the terrier but the cloth was stopping the shovel. I cleared a bit of it away and it became obvious it was a pair of trousers. I went to pull the t
  4. 15 lbs I'd say, 16 if he was wet. Fair play to your mate with his original spoof, he certainly spoofed some.
  5. Apache, If another terrierman was to ask me what type I keep I would answer "black ones", simple as that. If they're a terrier man they'll catch my drift. BUT, just out of interest where does the name "PATTERDALE" come from regarding terriers ? I ask because I don't know and because as far as I know it's a small village in Cumbria. So how does the small village of Cumbria give it's name to the most common type of working terrier worldwide ?
  6. A 20 pounder is indeed a big fox, so I'd love to see these 40 pounders that make the papers every year. We used to weigh them regularly and I have a photo here of two 21 lb dog foxes and a 19 lb vixen dug in the one earth. That was some trio of specimens. The last fox I weighed was around 7 or 8 years ago and he was one I snared. He was a whopper who weighed 18 1/2 pounds. I might start carrying a spring balance again out of interest. Incidentally, as far as I can remember the once great Guinness Book of Records when it recognised proper records (you can get into it now for eating the m
  7. Do you personally know any competent terriermen who keep and work Jack Russells ? I mean personally. Genuine question. Also, another question, IF money was NEVER parted in NI in the correct circles and the fact that you've bought and sold loads of terriers does that mean you've never traveled in those circles ? Fair play for admitting that. Perhaps some day those circles will let you in.
  8. OK, I suppose the days when there could be 5 or 6 lads on a dig (I've seen nearly 20, a few times) and everyone carried a tool or two are over. Now, it's one or two lads and as much as possible must be carried as conveniently as possible. In the last few years I've seen lads put great thought into carrying as much as possible as easily as possible. Here in Ireland quads and ATVs are largely impractical because our farms are much smaller. Apologies for going off topic, but always like to see other folks methods.
  9. It's illegal to spear fish around Irish waters if you're using an artificial breathing aid. In other words a snorkel is the most you can use. My brother used to do it (also of Thailand) and I asked him why a scuba tank can't be used and he said because it's already too easy.
  10. DC, have you your shovels attached to your back pack ? More and more lads seem to be carrying more and more stuff on their back when hunting.
  11. For a tenner it's well worth the watch. There's a couple of old characters in it no longer with us (at least 3) so best of luck with it lads.
  12. Of course there'll be resistance FD, there'll be those of us who keep them right, and those who don't. But it will happen.
  13. Christmas eve, Three lads trying to get into a night club, the door man looks at them and says "I'll let you in if you have something Christmas'y on you." They look at one another. First lad takes out a lighter, lights it ups and tells the bouncer it's a candle. In he goes. Second lad takes out his keys and shakes them and says they're Christmas bells. In he goes. Third lad looks through all his pockets and eventually pulls out a pair of womens knickers. "What's that supposed to be ?" says the bouncer. "They're Carols" he replies. In he goes.
  14. I hope so Foxdropper, that's when Neil "The Patterdale" Cooney will maybe part with some of his Patterdales (378 years of line breeding) that are Patterdales out of Patterdales which are true Patterdales. I've always wanted one of those Range Rovers with the televisions in the back of the head rests. Seriously though. They're on the pet market now for big money. The Yanks have K.C.ed recognised them this few year so IMO it's inevitable and then the wheat really will be separated from the chaff, both terriers and breeders / owners.
  15. Depends on what mood I'm in ,LOL. I do think that the Black Fell and the Patterdale are one and the same. To me the Fell label covers blacks, reds and black and tans. Up 'till around 10 or so years ago I used to see authors and adds for pups where those who wanted to make it clear that their terriers were workers would call them Fells rather than Lakelands, but, nowadays where there's very few workers of black and tans that colour is nearly always called a Lakeland, sadly because it's very much become a show type. SO, I'll probably mostly call my prefered type Black Fells because as they ge
  16. I don't know who he is Leethedog but hats of to him BUT there's even more pressure on you than if you got the permission on your own because you now have two people you can't let down. The landowner and the former permission holder. Best of luck and hope some day you'll repay the kindness.
  17. Great stuff. The best donation those owners could give is to make sure the media hears about the RSPCA not giving a damn about an animals life. Again Rat Face, well done.
  18. Kaiser, the subject of this thread is about those who still strive for terriers that work very close to the original standards. To talk about how terriers work and are worked today is a different subject. As I've said before that IMO no terrier has changed it's style as much as the black type and I also believe that there's better terriers nowadays than in any other time in history. Despite what the romantics might tell us.
  19. The last few replies to your question are about what lads prefer nowadays but doesn't answer your question about who strives to breed or keep a type that is the same as the same type many, many years ago.IMO only a few men can honestly put their hands on their hearts and say they do and those men are a few Jack Russell breeders and a few Fell breeders. Only those Jack Russell breeders who strive for a JRT who'll work all quarry under ground using it's voice as it's greatest asset and only those Fell breeders who still use a hard terriers to kill or shift foxes from hard to reach places can sa

  21. If lads like him don't get a chance then they've no chance. Know a few lads who learned by their mistakes and I'd trust them 100%.
  22. I always had plenty up in the house but when the wife went a few years ago I've put plenty more up. If I'm not hunting I like to be reminded of it. My daughter says the way the house is now means I'll always be single, LOL.
  23. Did you make them aware of this debate FD ?[/quote No mate ,but got the feeling they already knew .I asked if my details were likely to be passed on to a third party without my consent to which she asked for my name which I declined, was put on hold for her to come back saying they have to decline to comment on the issue to which I laughed and they hung up .Not what I wanted to hear .I've had issues with them in the past regarding lost box so never gave my name.Anybody knowing Clive Rees well might shed light on any legalities surrounding such a disclosure as I'm sure they are in breach of con
  24. i smoke a pipe and everyone comments they love the smell.i love it. i smoke a pipe and everyone comments they love the smell.i love it. My father smoked one for years. About 12 or 13 years ago I worked on a small site, there was only 8 of us and 3 smoked pipes. What's the chances and one lad was in his 40s. One of my earliest memories was being in the West of Ireland and seeing a woman smoking a pipe. They smell lovely and if there was no harm I'd probably try it, LOL. I'm still wondering about snuff..............has anyone tried it ?
