  1. ive never seen a terrier that wont hunt and kill mink. get a terrier from working stock i'd seriously consider a big leggy plummer. but a border or beddy would do a good job for you. as would the standard workin breeds. good luck
  2. just get a russell pup off parents that do what you want your pup to do. its hard to beat a good russell
  3. correct Tinytiger http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=119962 yhats a nice dog. but it would be unfair to call it a full plummer. its a bull cross plummer i think. allthough it is a plummer type
  4. That is a real Lakeland. she was a sensible baying sort and rarely took a bad pasting. ike i say she wasnt mine. but a very wel mannered bitch that did a power of foxs for her owner. like you guys say she was a propper lakeland. few and far between but there are a few about
  5. bell. not a show dog but a good honest proper old style lakie owned and worked for over a decade by my brother in law. brightmore/cowen lines. edited to add. its amazing how showy the best lakeland lines have become over such a short time isnt it

  9. if thats the fella from the white rose county he must be getting on a bit now. some of my first terriers came from his stuff. and that must be around thirty years ago.i bred a bitch pup useing a dog called ben a strong rough coated black dog with a white flash on his chest. i'm sure his name was ben. owned by a leyland lad. and produced a smooth black bitch that had prick ears. good dogs by all acounts
  10. nothing wrong with a good argument as ong as it stays sensible i dont know about yorkies but my maw had a fancy foxterrier bitch that would fly to ground.and bay like thunder and when wet through had a muzzle as fine as a yorky
  11. probably would be a cull to a lot of digging lads but she suits me fine and does a bit to ground
  12. This is only my opinion, but based on my experiences. When the plummers were first around, they were bred to hopefully be digging dogs. Hence the shape/size they were. When the hunting ban came in certain breeders (not all) have changed the look of the terrier, after first promoting the dog as an earth dog they changed tact as they believed at first digging was banned, then realised that the general public would find the thought of a dog killing fox less appealing than a dog killing horrible nasty vermin, so the current plummers you see are skinny long legged, now promoted as ratting dogs...wh
  13. the breed may be fecked. but the type is around the working scene for a while yet
  14. i went through haf a dozen shite russells before i got a half decent one.ive seen more shite patts than good one's and thats the truth. there is a culture on the www that it makes your breed better by slateing other breeds. so crack on. some plummers will work to ground better than some patts or russells and thats a fact. i dont own a good plummer earthdog. but i do own one thats better than a lot of so called working patts or russells. doesnt say much for those breeds does it there are some very good lines of terriers of all breeds. generally owned by salt of the earth sorts. that will
  15. as long as you look for working lines the breed is unimportant. and your choice would depend on the type of workstyle you looking for from your terrier. i personally like a good russell
