  1. consistancy. and effort. i have neither
  2. if its predominantly white its a russell (type) terrier
  3. it could be a russell border. time might help solve the puzzle for you.
  4. they are makeing a comeback around me. nice to get a rare glimpse now and then
  5. leave the black uns to the real men. feckin class. if i see someone with a back dog i'll know they are proper terriermen becouse they keep black terriers becouse once you go black you wont go back. a good work bred beddy/plummer/russell/or crossbred will do what you want. but with all terriers and their crosses fly to ground so a locator would be a wise move.i have a plummer bitch that is hard to beat on top but still flies to ground even though she hasnt a spot of black on her.
  6. you have some realy good pics baws al credit to you thanks for posting em
  7. cleanspade, considering you comment on all the major plummer sites you do nothing to improve the image of these little dogs, they are more than capable of regular earthwork, you can only comment on your own experiences with your own dogs but there are plenty of lads that do have the time to work them and do dig to them regular, each time you make your statement as to them not being a digging dog you put off a lot of potential plummer owner's that might just fully test them, when you were young and keen I'm sure you worked your terrier's most day's,working commitments limit a lot of older lads
  8. The "B&F" collars are sealed units, Switched and recharged from the outside. They also use a plastic coated red collar with brass fittings, coupled with a stainless "Bomerang Tag" should prove watertight and reliable. IMO it's never naive to ask a question, only naive to think we know all the answers! Found these photo's on the internet. (Entering,Listening, both taken in 1939) Note the lads are congregated at an entrance/opening,(like listening to an old radio) A lot of information could be had from listening to the baying of the terrier. Some guys knew there dog well e
  9. a good bolting dog would have to be a good finder. and i find a good bolting terrier will be at its best in a rangy spot
  10. ah but is the sewing machines out of singer ines as the rest are just wannabes
  11. Without doubt, the likes of Chelsea,Man City will only have themself to blame if their owners decide to up sticks and go onto another hobby.....the trouble is these days clubs send their scouts abroad to look for talent as much as they send them to local sunday leagues, which of course makes it double hard for a young lad to get a look in.I think theres still plenty of talented lads their just having a harder time due to the foreign talent they have to compete with. The kid Mckecran at Chelsea,Wilshire at Arsenal, the lad Coady at Liverpool is supposed to be another Gerard even at West Ham we
  12. Nice well put together animal optimus that wheaten/grey at the top did it make anything workwise ?? tidy dogs.
  13. wheaten whippet. i like the wheaten cross. the one i have is to heavily built for most lurcher lads. has turned out more to the wheaten he can be a handfull with strange dogs and has to be watched. but is very intelligent works with guns/ferrets/terriers. anyone talking about wheaten crosses with not enough drive puzzles me as my dog has to much. stamina wise i dont do enough to wear him out so couldnt say. what i will say is they are to much of a handfull for a lot of folk so be carefull what you wish for. i think good wheaten bood is hard to find so there will be a few about from
  14. No offence mate but he really hasn't got the look of a worker, still good to see em tho not all workers have (the ook of a worker) some real good dogs look like pot lickers. and some hard looking terriers turn out shite. best to treat dogs like folk and never judge a book by its cover. jmho
  15. edited to add more than once we dug down to five or six feet . only to find a tube in the wal of the dig and the fox at a depth of three or four feet we even had one come out of the sidewall whilst still digging and use the digger as a step to help it out. i agree that the terriers where probably no better or worse . but a lot of the older lads i remember had better manners and a respect for each other and there chosen quarry that seems lacking in many now. i havnt done much for a while due to one thing and another. and dont think i'll ever get back to it as much. it aint the same anymore
  16. we used to dig without locators many years ago. it was much more interesting. and THE. big challeng was finding the dog. the things that come to mind are lyeing in the wet cold mud almost upsidedown with my head and shoulders shoved as far down the hole as is humanly possible with my jacket pulled over the back of me to shut out any sounds from above. popping up for air to tel lads to keep still and shut up yacking. oh yea and to stop the blood running to my head we also used a stick to find what way a tube was running. the torch was used as well. with a dog that had a good voice it was often
  17. check out the attendances of the clubs in the english premiership and the the old firm. if you really think celtic and rangers arnt big clubs then you havnt done your homework. and check out the stadia and training facilities allso. and compare them. rangers and celtic woud settle into your premiership with ease. and they know it thats why they dont want em. your diddy cubs are running scared lets face it there is a welsh team in your league so why fear the two scotish (GIANTS)
  18. Isn't that a type of fly c.s? its a typo ive got a sticky L'
  19. na more likely to be the fact that good dogs come in all colours
  20. its very simple. you need to handle a dog. how else will you get to see a good undercoat/feel the texture of the topcoat. check for parasites / feel the thickness of the dogs skin. check for two nuts examine the ears and eye's. allways a good indicator of health. as are the teeth. the temprement is aso tested to a degree whilst handling a dog. i know its just a bit of fun but the judge will want to end up with a good specimen that is fit for purpose and well made
  21. I would say 50mpg driven normally, you could get more if you were carefull and you will get less if you thrash it. I have been driving mine about in a foot and a half of snow on forestry tracks this week and I can assure you, people would be surprised where it goes. Definately gets my vote. Dont get a big 4x4 colie/grey you will regret it and you will never see your money back on it. FTB that would be a serious contender if i was looking. the skoda that is
