  1. As ive said in previous posts, I dont reckon much at all to the subsonics. The 2.5" are the quietest by far. You lose velocity with the subs as well so just stick to the 2.5" carts. You will notice a hell of a difference in sound depending on where you fire the gun, and as said if you stand 50 yards away while someone fires the gun you will be surprised how quiet it actually is. Youl soon get used to knowing which environments make the noise louder / quieter .

    My Daughter

So you dont have to worry about your home security with a guard-daughter like that around ! She looks very smug in the photo and so she should too ! Does she take after you or the other half in that respect ? Tell her well done from me
  3. Cant beat a bit of lube Buster. Has hundereds of uses ( All related to shooting of course ) Looks like a good bit of rabbiting land youve got there
  4. Il put it in a nutshell for you,If you want to shoot fox and vermin. Apply for .22lr and .17 HMR for vermin.( If you want both calibres. ) For fox apply for a centerfire rifle. Edited to say .... Ask your flo about whether you would be granted a centerfire as well as rimfire on first grant. As said previously they are there to help you !
  5. Well basically they are both classed as small vermin calibres. And are two tools that each have there own pros and cons. One thing to consider is for example .17 HMR uses a small light bullet that isnt prone to ricochet. The .22lr use a heavier bullet that is prone to bouncing about. Read up on the search function and theres plenty there
  6. I couldnt imagine being without the HMR. You say youve got a .22-250 instead, but you cannot really draw a comparison for the two as they are worlds apart. I like the HMR more than the .22lr but I can see what you are saying. My mate calls it an in-between calibre as in his opinion its a bit much for bunnies, and not enough for fox which is pretty much along the same lines as what you are saying. Horses for courses mate at the end of the day. If we all agreed on the same things and all had the same opinions the world would be a very dull place ! Hope you get sorted out and find
  7. The .17 hmr is NOT smaller than a .22lr. Yes its a smaller calibre but it has a greater distance / Muzzle energy. I would opt for .22lr for general rabbits etc, .17 hmr for long range bunnies and corvids and then a centerfire for fox..... if you intend to shoot them. If you want something that will do for both as a compromise then consider a .22 wmr or a .22 hornet maybe. The .17 hmr and .22lr really compliment each other well and most constabularies realise this and will grant both easily enough. As for the centerfire you can only ask your FEO and see what he says. Some may say
  8. Ive got and use a wigeon whistle and one of the fox calls in your link. They work great giving varied calls and volume. Only thing is they can stick with the moisture in your breath so its best to not leave it in your mouth when your not calling. Beauty is you can call as you aim the rifle as they are hands free.
  9. Standard 2.5" carts. Definately Subsonics are louder than the above and have less velocity. 3" magnums are still a lot quiter than normal but if noise is the key issue then you wont beat standard 2.5" .
  10. I think that it would be beneficial to split the airgun section into two sections as has been said previously. Maybe a beginner, and advanced section, as age is irrelevant much of the time as some of the youngsters on here probably know just as much if not more than some of the older members. But at the end of the day whether or not people would use them correctly is left to be considered One other suggestion would maybe to include an FAC section so people do not have to post in the rimfire section as some people who do not shoot SGC /FAC may be missing out on some of the related
  11. ......Or trying to light it blindfolded with both arms tied behind your back while escaping from a tank of water with flesh eating leaches in
  12. The start of things to come. Well done mate, and a nice tool for the job.
  13. Well I wouldnt normally reccomend shooting centerfires up into trees but it looked like it paid off He probably sliced them on branches on the way up the tree
  14. That is what calibre the mod is bored for, eg calibres up to 308. It will work fine but may not be as good as a .22 moderater in terms of noise reduction. Many people use such a mod on different calibres in order to save buying a calibre specific moderator for each calibre of rifle they own, which can be a consideration owing to the price of moderators ! It wont have any adverse effects so I wouldnt worry too much
  15. Id say it will suit your needs more than the little .22. Just be prepared for the jump in prices john. A friend said he paid £ 15 for 50 winchester the other day. I normally pay around 10.50-12 quid a box but compared to .22lr its expensive. Hope you enjoy your new found calibre. 300 yard fox here you come
