  1. I love the look of those Stutzens. A friend of mine used to have a BSA Stutzen. That was probably the best BSA springer I've ever used. Think it had had some work done though. I think an Air Ranger would be high on my list, but in all honesty, once I've had some customisation done to my R10, I think that'll be it!
  2. All Theoben self contained rifles have, or at least used to have, fixed mounts.
  3. I think you might be getting a little mixed up here mate. An Ultra isn't a spinger at all, it's a PCP. Tough choice though. I've had a SuperTen before, and it was excellent- regretted selling it ever since, until I bought my R10 in 2009. I also have an Ultra Tactical single shot in .177, and I absolutely love it too. Deadly accurate, light as a feather, incredibly well balanced and with an HW moderator on the end, practically silent. You'll have to weigh up what suits you best - you'll definitely get a higher shot count from the SuperTen, but if you're a fan of .177, then maybe stick
  4. Is it a straight swap? Is there charging gear included in the swap? Are you happy with the TX? It's up to you, but the idea that precharged rifles are better than springers purely because they're springers is false. The TX you own is a very good gun, so think carefully about getting rid of it!
  5. There was a review of the rifle in Airgun Shooter a couple of months back. From what I can gather, based on the same action as the Prestige rifles and FX range. I'd be interested to get my hands on one to have a look at.
  6. Nice one Bill! Just been on to my local gunshop about ordering a couple of these!
  7. I've dealt online and on the phone with The Airgun Centre, and I found them excellent, and very helpful. My local gunshop is Churchills Of Dereham, and they'll be getting all of business until they give me a reason not to. Excellent guys, always helpful. I bought my HW95K from Uttings in Norwich some years ago, and although I got what I asked for, I felt a bot like I was shopping in Argos. Haven't been in there since, but really have no reason to while Churchills continue to be so brilliant.
  8. Just to echo what's already been said really, for the sort of money you talk about, a second hand Weihrauch would be a good bet- maybe an HW95K. If you buy new, remember you'll need a scope too, which adds to the cost. Personally, I think that some of the SMK rifles are pretty good, but I confess to having very limited experience. The XS19 and XS20 are, in my opinion worthy of a look, but I expect they'll need a good tune up to perform to their potential. *edited to add* Just seen the post above. Buy that, you won't be disappointed.
  9. Not only put a review up, Simon, but let us know who sells them! *edited for typo*
  10. Personally, I think it's worth washing and lubing - it's something that I always do with my pellets. Advantages? It helps to keep your pellets consistent, so that each one is the same, and there's no swarf to potentially effect the pellets flight path. In all honesty, we're talking fraction-of-a-millimetre stuff here though. The other reason I always wash my pellets can be seen when you tip a tin of pellets out! All that sward and dust in the tin. I've spent a lot of money on my rifles, so I don't want to put that crap in them! I personally just use a couple of drops of 3-in-1
  11. Bloody hell fellas! thanks for the info, but this post is more than four years old!! My HW95K has been back to it's best for several years now, courtesy of Steve Pope.
  12. Top write up Simon, really enjoyed reading that! I don't know what any of that means.
  13. Great stuff! Just hope I can put all my financial woe behind me in time!
  14. This is the age old question, and one that probably gets asked on this forum twice a week. Firstly, I'd like to pick up on some of what Alex has just said- not to be a pedantic b*****d, but just for accuracy's sake! PCP stands for Pre-Charged Pneumatic. I'm sure I'm not teaching anybody here anything they don't know, but the basis of this is that the rifle is 'charged' from an external source - ie is filled with compressed air from either a divers bottle or a stirrup pump. This is quite different from 'gas'. A gas rifle is powered by disposable CO2 capsules. So don't confuse the two.
  15. It's an interesting problem you pose Si! Over penetration is certainly, in my opinion, one of the drawbacks of the increased velocity of the smaller calibre. Like yourself, I shoot a .22 R10 and a .177 Ultra. I've had good kills at long and short ranges with both, but I'm always more confident that my quarry is going to drop dead when I'm using the .22 R10. A few months ago, I shot a rabbit at a paced 42 yards with the Ultra- the bunny inched forward just as I squeezed off the trigger, and the pellet struck the chest, rather than the head as was intended. I thought I'd lost it when it
  16. Tough call! As you've just read, the TX is very highly rated, and rightly so! In your situation, personally I would stay well clear of the BSA Lightning and choose the Fenman. I have always wanted one, even though I've owned far better rifles, there's just something rugged about the Fenman that I absolutely love. That said, if you choose the TX, you'll be in good company, and I guarantee the rifle will out shoot you for many years if it's well looked after!!
  17. Ok, there are two types of These ThUnderbolt (UBolt) pellets, one specifically from spring rifles, one for pneumatic guns. I couldn't tell you the difference between them, but apparently there is one. The apparent benefit of these pellets is that they're incredibly light weight, and therefore travel at much greater velocities than most lead pellets. I haven't used them, and to be honest, I have no interest in using them either.
  18. Is that a one footed bigfoot?
  19. Good luck and congratulations to both of you!
  20. The new price of the s200 makes it worth considering an S400 in my opinion, but I think they are excellent rifles all the same. Maybe worth considering a BSA ultra too? Just my 2p
  21. In all honesty mate, I wouldn't bother with an FAC. I don't know about the impact of your criminal record on your application (and I'm sure someone else will come along and give you the lowdown on that shortly), but it just seems unnecessary. A sub 12ftlb rifle is more than capable of humanely killing the quarry you've listed if you're able to hit the kill zones. Good luck!
  22. Sorry mate, dont have constant internet access at the moment. PMs on their way back to everyone who's awaiting a reply.
  23. Obviously that's of no help to you, but the SuperTen really is a cracking rifle. Just found out that somebody I know owns one (I didn't even know he was into shooting!) and he's looking at leaving the UK for Australia this year, so I'm going to be doing my best to prise that out of his mitts to have alongside my R10 and Ultra!
  24. you should have a message in your inbox now mate.
