  1. That's a hell of a spot mate, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's jealous! Look forward to reading your posts in the future!
  2. Cheers Millsy! Not seen you on here for a while pal?
  3. The Ultra is a lovely lightweight rifle, very well balanced too. As far as calibre goes, I don't really have a preference. I have three rifles, and the Ultra is the only .177 - I took it this morning purely because it was the one I fancied using, not because it's more accurate or I prefer it. The idea that .177 is more accurate is a myth. A .177 pellet flies at a flatter trajectory than a .22 pellet, and this makes it more forgiving when estimating range, but that's all. There's been loads written about the subject on this forum. Thanks for the comments.
  4. Now then airgunners! Had a call from the landowner on one of my permissions yesterday morning saying he was desperate for me to come back and have another go at the bunnies in his garden. I used to call into him at least once a week, but since my job changed, I'm not often in the area any more, and it's around a hours drive. Anyway, I told him I'd love to but was a bit short of change for fuel 'no worries' he said, 'it's about time I started contributing!' With that sorted, I let him know that I'd be there at around 6.30 this morning. Pulled into the gateway, got the .177 U
  5. Cheers all. Going to try and get back and have another go tomorrow with the Ultra. Will let you know how I do, naturally.
  6. Firstly, Mods I apologise if this is the wrong section - I felt this item belonged in guns more than Optics and Equipment. I stand to be corrected though, so please move if necessary. I have a Hills pump for sale. I've probably had it around 2 years. It's in good condition, although would possibly benefit from a service. Only selling as I've recently found time to do a lot more shooting, so I'm going over to a bottle for ease. £65 or near offer. Postage will probably be around a tenner, but will confirm after. PM for info.
  7. Spot on. Likewise, I've pulled heads of ferals far more often than I'd care to admit! Now, I usually hold body in one hand and continually twist the head until the neck breaks in the other. This rarely results in a head being pulled off, and works perfectly for any size bird from a sparrow to a goose. (Not that I'm shooting sparrows you understand, just an example.)
  8. Does seem to happen like that sometimes! I remember shooting a carrion crow of some power lines with my HW95K several years ago. It swung round, and hung by it's feet upside down from the wire for about 2 minutes (no twitching or anything), then dropped towards the ground. It fell to about 3 feet off the ground and then just FLEW AWAY! I've never seen anything like it before or since. Anyway, thanks for the kind words! Moley, thanks for that mate.
  9. That's a bit of bad luck mate. Sorry to hear it. I'm sure you'll be more than happy with whatever you choose though.
  10. I think you've made the right decision to keep the S10 mate!
  11. At the risk of sounding needy, I'm disappointed that nobody has commented on my decent bag! :icon_redface: Haha, Cheers.
  12. As of now Moley, anything that you shoot and don't have a use for I'll gladly take off your hands - my ferrets will be greatful. Every little helps and all that, and the freezer stock is depleting slowly. Thanks for the permission mate. As I said on Saturday, not sure I'll be able to get over that often, so I shouldn't get in your way. Sam
  13. Just called into the place again on the way to the shops. 3 more rooks in 5 minutes. AGAIN one got stuck in the tree!
  14. Now then, **EDITED TO ADD THAT I HAVE JUST REALISED IN THE TITLE I SAID 'TOMORROW MORNING'. I MEANT THIS MORNING, AND HAVE NO IDEA WHY I WROTE TOMORROW. WHOOPS.** As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I was out again this morning. Took the R10 to my permission that has a little rookery and several rabbits on it! Today, I arrived at 6.45ish. Just as yesterday, rifle loaded and passenger window open as soon as I entered the drive. 10 yards in, my first opportunity arose, and the .22 Falcon Accuracy Plus connected with the base of the bunnies skull. It rolled over, gave a kick and
  15. Give the BSA Ultra some thought too, belting good rifle.
  16. Thanks for the replies fellas, was a good hour that's for sure. As for rook pie? F that. Eating rook does not in any way appeal to me! Hoping for a decent bag in the morning to fill the ferret's freezer- they're not as fussy as me! Hopefully have something to report tomorrow! Ron.
  17. Now then, As I said in my last post, I haven't had a chance to get out much lately. One of my favourite permissions has been overlooked slightly. It's a big house that a friend (my missus' best friend) lives in. As we're friends, I've been to the house a few times lately without my rifle, and had notice that the rabbit number seemed to be increasing! I resolved to have a look this morning. I arrived at about 7.15, and loaded my Ultra as soon as I got into the drive, and opened the passenger side window. I know from experience that there's often a bunny sitting on that side, an
  18. A few weeks ago, a friend asked if I could help him thin out the rabbits in his garden. Of course, I jumped at the chance! I haven't had opportunity to get over to him for a while, but with a free evening, I thought I'd get out and keep my mind off the football (my beloved Norwich City just needing a win to secure promotion was too much for my nerves!!). The property is on the Sandringham Estate. It's a nice sized garden, probably 30 metres from back door to back fence and about 10 metres wide. Most of the rabbit activity is concentrated down near the house. It should be ideal to sit
  19. Nice shooting Si, looks like a lovely new permission you have there.
  20. Good post as always Scott, great shooting. SPA.
  21. How come you decided to restore the stock to the natural finish so quickly mate? Sorry if I've missed another thread on this somewhere. I have to be honest, I wasn't especially keen on it when you put the pictures up; you definitely have bigger balls than me to even think about doing such a thing to such a beautiful piece of wood!!
