  1. Irecently built new runs and did blockwork and mesh. For the mesh I used one of those HERAS fence panels cut down to size. They're those 6 feet high security fences you see round construction sites. Worked a treat.
  2. Well feck me!! The Outrigger/Ship ashore used to be great nights. Also The Crown on Broad Street on Sunday nights before that whole area got tarted up and there was always loads of good nights at Sinatra's between the Police HQ and the catholic cathedral but I don't think that it's there anymore. I left Brum in about 1994. We're you in one of the local SC's. We called ourselfs the Black Country Scooter Rats and it was a couple of the lads (Andy & Neil) who used to DJ at the Ship ashore. Happy Days
  3. My 11 year old lad has been coming out with me for years rabitting, ratting, digging, following hounds. Hell would freeze over before he missed a day out. When he was at junior school he had trumpet lessons and after scool he would get his trumpet out in the playground and "blow for home". Got him his first hunting horn for Christmas and is eargerly waiting to take up the offer of a lesson from the Quorn huntsman.
  4. Good one Bobo. We've not had much here but went today in the fog and managed to find one that had been giving the pheasants some stick.
  5. Was out today and driving down a lane saw about 2 dozen rats on some muck. Only had one dog with me so I'm going back tomorrow with the pack.

My other half's car insurance is up for renewal and the price shot up from last year. Tried go compare and confused.com and have saved about £150.00.

  8. Is that the Fitzwilliam? Had a cracking day with them pre-ban.
  9. Of course they won't repeal it. IMHO these petitions are just another PR exercise. Does anyone know if they have actually acted on any of them. I doubt it. Anyway they're far too busy tring to sort out the latest cash scandals and find the lost discs. They're now offering £20000 for the safe return of the discs which I heard today have details on them that can identify people under witness protection schemes. It gets better and better
  10. Was a good night. Well done to Mick and eveyone else involved in the organising. Mick, How much was raised for the Air Ambulance?
  11. What do you do if you miss your mother in law? . . . . . . . . . . . . . Reload and shoot again!!
  12. There's a farm shop selling 1/2 lamb ready for the freezer for about £40.00. We get a whole Jacobs from a local rare breeds producer for just over £100.00. A bit more expensive but I know where it's been.
  13. ANTI-HUNT WEEK Please make sure that everyone is aware that the sabs/vigilantes are trying for a big push. They are likely to be anywhere. Be especially aware that recently they have been seen, late in the day, skulking in covers or hedgerows playing with their cameras in an attempt to concoct 'evidence'. It would help if everyone, mounted and on foot, kept an eye open for anything suspicious and reported it through the proper channels. Confrontation is not the answer - that would be handing them the PR opportunity that they desire - ruin their week: just report what you see.
  14. The BBC One Show have just asked people to send in their nominations for the daftest law. Not wishing to state the bleeding obvious but I've given my nomination. Website is bbc.co.uk/theoneshow then click on the CONTACT US section Happy Voting
  15. My Dad has got some old cook books and I'm sure one of them has a recipe for Starling. I'll see if I can get hold of it.
  16. Got it today. Great read so far. Cheers JD.
  17. Lunch time news today. The BBC have been undercover at a pheasant farm for their Inside Out programme to be shown tonight at 7.30. The Arsepca are "shocked" at the conditions. Footage showed birds with beak covers on which are now banned but weren't when the filming took place. Apparently 15million pheasants are shot each shooting season and they are all farm reared.
  18. I've got a book and in it there is a photo of a terrier man mounted and carrying the terrier in a leather satchell type of bag.
  19. Got to agree with Essexrob on this. To get anywhere network rail property (lineside) you would have to spend the earth to get all your passes/tickets etc. Ther cable troughing means nothing. You need to know line speeds, have look out people, have to set up red/green zone working. You might in some instances have to have the juice turned off. Its an absolute minefield. Last thing you would want is a train driver (rightly) reporting for trespass and have the plod turn up.
  20. I worked on the railway for 20 years until a couple of years ago and when I first started ferreters used to be issued with permits for rabbiting along railway lines. This was because the farmers would blame the railways for any rabbits getting onto their land. Nowadays it would be virtually impossible to gain permission. You would have to attend and pass various safety courses and even then you couldn't just turn up. You would have to set up worksites surrounded by blue net fencing and have people passed out to look for trains etc. For the sake of a few rabbits the costs could run into thousa

    bank charges

I am currently trying to claim charges and have been told by the bank they will not do anything until after the test case which isn't going to be in court until July 08 (info from FSA). I spoke to the FSA regarding hardship and was told by the FSA that all it means is that banks will accept reduced payments on loans, overdrafts and credit cards etc.

    Television

The One Show on BBC1 has just shown a short feature about the Royal Albert Ratting Club. If you didn't see it, one of the guys is obviously into taxidermy and had a huge stuffed rat taking pride of place in his house. Later onm Jamie "Pukka" Oliver is joining a Partridge shoot and spending some time with a keeper to find out how best to get involved in the countryside, then Wild Gourmets go out grouse shooting. Not bad for one evening.

  24. There's loads of farmers/beast stranded at Newark market and DEFRA say it will take 2 days for them to issue special movement licences to get them shifted, thats if they issue them at all.
  25. I heard on the news yesterday that one of the banks has now reduced its charges for unauthorised overdrafts etc.
