I am deflated Mel,britains Alpha Males are dropping like ninepins,when I was far younger Mel I set off to go overland to China on my own,no internet back then,just a couple of ordnance survey maps,the big ones that folded down to manageable size,your journey tomorrow would be sitting on a train,it’s a straight line,no thought nor planning required,get on one end get off the other,you actually want to attend mate so half the battle is fought,you want to feel the energy of hundreds of thousands of fellow Brits flooding the streets in unity,I went to one march there was an old lady from Newcastle

I have a foot in two camps,UK and Canada,I have to be honest my lifestyle in Canada is easier and more enjoyable,I think @tillylamp and @gazjon5 got it right by moving into what is an incredible country,you can fit the UK into it 40+ times,for a country lover its incredible,miles of true wilderness, i saw 200 acres of land advertised recently for 35k sterling.I also have a bit of land i bought years ago in Asia when I had an idea for a longterm lifestyle but circumstances and mindset change.

I flew into Heathrow yesterday,I could have gone direct to Canada (thousands of fish in the river this week)but I want to be at this event,I haven't missed one yet,the last one the atmosphere was buzzing,I could have made an excuse and just not gone but that's not really who I am or what this is about,should be an interesting day.

  14. Popped in to see an old friend today,reminiscing about when we worked in Austria together,good times with not a care in the world,he is winding his place down here and heading to a medical project in Thailand,felt a bit sad when I left but he said theres always a place for me.

  16. I would love to go back and try again in the same river,it was a great time,I am about to go to Canada for a while,I will be fishing next month in pools with hundreds of fish in front of me,but I had a greater thrill netting at night.

I always wanted to try Haaf netting as a kid,I knew the perfect place,it looked a lot more predatory than Gill netting,but the idea of standing stock still for a while actually in the water a visible target for the bailiffs put me off.I think back then I took salmon with every method known to man,I was always experimenting but Gill nets got the big numbers,I started with a small net made some cash then learnt to hang sheet netting and progressed.Nothing is better than seeing or hearing fresh run fish jumping at night.I have seen and fished some incredible salmon the last few years but if I cou
