A good point to get your Rifle chrono checked i bought mine from a RFD and asked the ft/lbs at the time of purchase to be told that it was producing 11.4ft/lbs with superdomes although i must admit that i have never thought to get it checked since then

i used to fish a small trout lake that sat in a deep secluded valley many years ago when the sun went down over the trees in winter the temperature would fall dramatically and the flyline would usually freeze to the rod rings which would make for some, how shall i say, exciting sport when a trout ran with the fly, reckon we will see a harsh winter this year, the local weatherman was talking of this being the coldest winter for the last 12 years, roll on spring

I have watched just part of one episode, and turned off due to the poor fish handling displayed during the part of the programme that i saw i think the programmes title says it all, a bunch of redneck arseholes mistreating fish in a most cruel manner and providing yet more fuel for anti bloodsports organisations, did Robson Green and team not consider this when making the programme or even of removing the offensive material at the editing stage? he has no right to call himself an angler when he endorses such behaviour most of the great British non-angling public gain what knowledge of an

Anti Airgunner on "Celebrity Big Brother"
fin and fur replied to The Caretaker's topic in Airgun Hunting
It seems to me that most people who appear on celebrity big brother end up the worse (image wise that is) for their experience i'm thinking Jade Goddie, George Galloway et al so it could be a good thing that the tosser has exposed himself to a wider audience bring on that warped media machine, thats what i say some people only need enough rope to do the job for themselves -
I too used to buy Airgunner & Airgun World on a regular basis, usually when i was looking for a new bit of kit hardly buy either though these days, although i usually get the countrymans weekly

well done i still remember my first ever trout, (along with those that i missed on the way) caught on a similar sized still water to a shipmans buzzer well done fin and fur

Nice Perch i have just started coarse fishing again after many years as a fly fisher and have had a few cracking 3lb plus perch from the kennet and avon canal to red maggotts, however i have some lures / spinners and will be aquiring a spinning/lure rod principally to have a crack at the pike but think i will give the perch a go too on the lures after seeing your success cheers fin and fur

the Mendip Shooting Ground is where i go for a bit of target practice or zeroing session when i want to, for example try some new pellets out etc they are a friendly bunch and offer a total of 4 ranges for members with 2 of these ranges also being available for non members to use i am sure they must make the bulk of their money from the shoygun side of things, the airgun membership being ridicuously cheap, as after paying £30 membership per year its £3 per session which can be all day long if you want, thats £3 for indoor 9 gallery range, outdoor 8 gallery range also HFT and FT ranges for

Sean Hi i would agree with the view that you need a one piece mount for a scope fitted to a Gas Ram or Spring Piston rifle, when i first bought my Wheirauch HW97K it was fitted up with a nice Hawke scope and BSA 2 piece mounts, it didn't take long for scope creep to set in and i seemed to be remounting the scope and resetting the zero every week before buying a Sportsmatch one piece damped mount which has been on the rifle for 3 months now with no scope movement whatsoever, Sportsmatch mount is coded DM60 for 25mm scope tubes and DM70 if your scope has a 30mm tube

the shooting ground up on the mendips is visited by a lead reclamation/scrap metal dealer who uses a machine which removes the top soil and sifts it for the lead, i believe that the company used to charge for this service but earlier this year with the spiralling cost of lead were providing this service free gratis

This is the thing i was trying to get across, but like you, where I have seen it eludes me at this moment. I will, if i find out where, let you all know. Cheers, Grim. Grim hi i think that you probably read this in Total Airguns, that fine book of Pete Wadeson, i think thats where i first came across the issue of carrying airgun magazines in public cheers Fin and Fur

do you have a branch of Mole Valley Farmers (agricultural chain shop) in your area? or are these just specific to the west country if they are too far away from you then they may offer mail order, i think they have a website if you can get to one of their branches then look at the richter optics 3 - 9 x 50 AOE scopes that they sell which should come in at a shade under 42 quid these scopes are an excellent budget scope and come complete with a set of 2 piece mounts which look very similar to hawke mounts and are very good quality although you may want to get a one piece mount if fitt

Air Gunner Hi the RWS Hobbies that you are using are indeed a light pellet that i personally have never got on well with, i have never tried them in a rifle but have used them in a pistol for target 'paper punching' and i have found them to be inconsistent in diameter in comparison to other pellets, some of the pellets sit well in the magazine whilst others are sitting proud and some sit quite low, also as you say they are a light pellet coming in at a mere 7 grains in .177 calibre, i wouldnt personally bother with flat head pellets at mid to long range but if you want to try some that ar

when you go around the farms ask if they want any help controlling rat numbers to start with it is surprising how many farmers i have come across who can get any number of hunters to control rabbitt numbers but cannot find people interested in ratting all the best fin and fur

nice rifle, i know someone who has not long bought one and who is very pleased with it indeed, those tactical stock BSA's look good

I think it will depend on many factors as to what distance a rabbit could reasonably be shot with pellet choice being an important one a pellet with good aerodynamic properties will hold a greater velocity and therefore more of its initial muzzle energy for longer than a pellet with a poor aerodynamic profile so pellet profile will play a factor, as will weight of pellet, with a heavier pellet being in the kill zone (aiming point) for a shorter distance than a lighter pellet therefore range estimation will be more critical with nheavier pellets at long distances as mentioned in previous post

If you are intent on shortening your guns barrel than i would be inclined to leave it to a specialist engineering firm rather than attempt the job yourself the barrel will have to be reduced concentrically in relation to the bore to a suitable diameter for the 1/2" unf thread after shortening the barrell to the length required and machining to this degree of concentricity really should only be attempted on a lathe, also when the barrel is re-crowned you will have to specify the crown angle to whoever is doing the work for you if they are unfamilar with guns and work on more general engineerin

Hi Snipper some good advice on here, i have a pistol (smith and wesson co2 rep) which i would only ever consider using on the range and never on live quarry as at less than 6ftlbs the potential to wound any live quarry most cruelly is far too great to risk the target practice you are thinking of is a good idea with a pistol, i use my pistol when i fancy a change from looking through the rifle scope and fancy a bit of challenging open sight range shooting, it really makes a nice change trying to get a half tidy grouping at 10yds when using open sights and seeing my groups all over the plac

i would agree that domed pellets are best for hunting, flat heads will cause the most damage at close range as more of their energy will be dissipated into the target, but at medium to long range will (due to the pellets poor aerodynamic profile) lose more of their energy than a domed head pellet would i wouldnt bother with pointed pellets as even the slightest damage to the pellet or difference in point centre from pellet centre will cause an unstable pellet in flight, try shooting a few on the range and see how the odd 'flyer' of a pellet will spoil your grouping

Hi Fin and Fur, Thanks mate, they're the Defiants.. Haven't heard of the Dynamics though. But the note at the range is interesting. It must have some real good energy upon impact or its a very good ad idea! How was the impact when u tried em? I've heard defiants are really great. Get the trial pack with all the three head sizes so that you can find the perfect fit Hi Mohammed i didnt have the chance to go down range to examine the pellets after firing as people were still using the range at the time, however i gather that these pellets suffer less deformation on impact of the

Hi Mohammed i think the prometheus pellets you are thinking of are either defiants or dynamics, the defiants come in three head sizes as you say and should cost about £12.00 for a box of 1000, the dynamics come in different types depending on whether you use a spring or PCP airgun and are a fair bit more than the average .177 pellet at a cost of £14.00ish for a box of 500, interestingly i have seen a note up at the range i use asking that anyone who shoots with the dynamic pellets should restrict their shooting to the larger metal plinking targets as the pellet will damage the smaller me

Hi Clouser, the peanut butter is fine but try sprinkling grated chocolate on top of the peanut butter and adding some jam as a bit of a side order, rats seem to love fruit a supposed rat favourite that was suggested to me by a proffesional pest controller some time back but which i have yet to try is mars bars, apparently they love them

sounds a real bargain to me

Yep i would second that, a top photo journalist and author, and that book just dont seem to look out of date inspite of being written 20 odd years back definatley a Bible of all things airgunning, i seem to learn something new each time i read it
