  1. Just to try and clarify a point that has been, remarked on recently . If your ticket has got " for use of virmin control " stated on it, does this automatically include fox When i applied for my centre fire i specifically said it would be used on rabbit and fox , but noticed my ticket states vermin control as above i only ask because it has been commented on this forum that fox must actually be written on ticket ( if i have read correctly )
  2. OK , just for you young bucks i,m 55 years young
  3. Plenty of life in us old dogs yet, i still get the buzz when i go out Just keep taking the tablets :11: :11:
  4. Just a bit of a light hearted question How much experience do you have in the hunting / shooting sport. My record below, first memory of ferret and nets-- 47 Yrs ago First air rifle--43 Yrs ago First shot gun--- 40Yrs ago First FAC-- 3 1/2 Yrs ago ( wish i,d done it years earlier ) Doesn,t time fly when you are enjoying yourself
  5. Just purchased new SAK moderator for my .22 r/f, seems a well built bit of kit Would it be safe to use on my Hornet
  6. What does the condition relating to your Hornet say on your FAC? Hi SS. I let the dust settle on the open condition before i applied for variation for the hornet, i think it was about 6 to 8 months later, at that time i had no problems and hornet was added as open condition , but i did submit a covering letter from another mate who i had accompanied hunting ( using a centre fire ) on many occassions, and again he confirmed "in his experience" my suitability to own a centre fire. I must say that my FEO is very good, and if you are up front with him, listen to his advice and supply re
  7. Hi Jamie. Had my ticket made open condition after about 18 months, i phoned the FEO and explained that i regularly shoot with a mate whose ticket is already open condition, and that we have been offered permission to shoot over more land near to areas that have been assessed for my .17 , i explained that the land owners wanted us to carry out vermin control on a regular basis, and this was a condition of the permission, but if my mate could not make it i could not go myself because of the closed condition limitations, i also remarked that it would also be easier on their resouces if an op
  8. What price you looking for mate??
  9. I have .22lr CZ style with synthetic stock and 77/22 Ruger in .22k hornet ( centre fire ) Both are excellent rifles, both do a great job on their quarry CZ for rabbit & Ruger for Fox Suppose i have best of both worlds Cheers
  10. Hi Deker, i agree with you i also think the .22WMR is far in front of the .17HMR because of all the reasons you have given, i used a .17 for about 18 months, found it very good on rabbits, but a bit dodgy for fox got rid and got myself a hornet K Havent used the WMR on live quarry but a guy uses one at the rifle range, very impressive hitting power and accuracy at 100 & 200 yards when zeroed, he uses it on rabbits regularly and has also taken the odd fox recons its a great little tool for mooching about Not sure what make it is, but it is self loading and great fun to use, PS --
  11. you can now get the clusion in 1 million & 2 million candle power, both are very reliable
  12. What about the ruger 10/22 self loading rifle best selling .22 ever
  13. Each to their own "and why not", but this is a personal project and if you can find anywhere and anyone to do the work then you are presumably reloading as well, ATB, I'd be very interested to hear how you get on!! Strange though...in simple terms the Hornet sits somewhere between the .22WMR (300-350ft lb) and the .22 centrefire range (900+ft lb) Do you actually have a real need for this calibre and power or is this something you just want to do.....? I'm curious because whichever way you want to look at it the Hornet is on the demise, even though it certainly does seem to have a u
  14. Thanks guys. .22k hornet rounds are not available to buy, they are formed when standard hornet rounds are fired in a modified K chamber, i actually have a K hornet but it was reworked prior to me purchasing it, just wondered if any one would know the cost of conversion at todays price because a mate is thinking about converting. ps After fireforming you can get about 10% extra powder in the cases, velosities up to 3150 ft/sec Thanks for the replies. Keith.....
  15. Anyone have any idea how much it would cost, to have a standard .22 hornet chamber reamed out to .22K hornet. Thanks
  16. Heard that "Norman Clark", of Rugby, does very good work, few guys down my rifle range have used him, all are very satisfied. Not sure of address or phone Number but you will find him on web.. Cheers. Keith
  17. Average killing range for rabbits with sub-sonic ammo i about 50/60 yds no need for all singing, all dancing optics buy a decent mid range scope without parallax adjustment ( pain in the butt) about £150, i tend to go fixed mag , but it,s your choice Keep the rest of the cash for another investment perhaps a centrfire Cheers
  18. mr logic still trying to peddle obsolete rounds......probably slightly better than a 22 semi auto.. your worse than my grandad reminising about the good old days.....time to move on......hornet will never be back in vouge, the round is lacking in many ways..... Sorry Woz, But the hornet round is far from obsolete, myself and my mate both use this calibre regularly, and so far this season have accounted for 20+ foxes, factory ammunition is readily available around my area, but most benifit by reloading a combination of 13gns hodgdons lil-gun powder, 40gn hornaday v max head gives muzz
  19. nothing to do with it being easier then lol
  20. I also use a .22 hornet on fox, where poss i use the bipod as this is most accurate especially for longer shots, for closer shots i normally shoot free hand, if bipod cannot be used , i have a single telescopic stick ( hikeing type ) which i have fitted with a rod rest vee at the top and it has a spike at the bottom and this can be sunk into the ground for extra stablity really good piece of kit how many you had with the hornet? how do you rate it? Cheers
  21. Thinking about getting a little air rifle for rats and close rabbits around buildings, my mate said the crossman rabbit stopper would be ideal for the job but i dont know anything about them other than they are co2, anyone out there got one, or used one? are they up to the job, and how much to buy Cheers
  22. Had an invite to go with two mates last night, who had been asked to get rid of some rats in the barns and outbuildings at a local farm, using air rifles and lamp, havent done this for years so i thought i,d tag along. pulled up at farm yard, got the gear ready, into the first building, switched on the lamp probably about 6 rats running all directions so confused i could not get a shot off this seemed to be the pattern all night they wern.t playing fair by the time we called it a night we only had about 5 rats but boy, did i enjoy the thrill of going into those dark buildings, listening
  23. Dragon moderators will soon be back in production, they have been unavailable for a while due personal problems of the designer / patent holder, but anyone who has owned or tried the dragon mod will know they are a very good product @ a reasonable price. At the moment they are going through proofing because of slight design improvements and up- grades. There are two types : screw on, & over barrel, they have alluminium body with stainless steel baffles, both are strippable.I have used one of the mark 1 models for quite a few years and they are excellent, been told new ones are even bette
