HI JOHN. Damned if you do & damned if you dont!! but i suppose from the land owners perspective he has given you permission to carry out vermin / pest control on his patch, so if he does not see results from yourself it is possible he would give permission to A. N. OTHER. I know it is against your grain to shoot foxes at this time of year, but if it takes one dead charlie to save permission then "so be it"

can anyone help!! i have a ruger 77/22 in .22K HORNET, the rifle shoots accurate enough and i have had many kills with it. My concern is regarding the Bolt, it is a two piece or split design and seems to be joined with some type of pin through the centre, but i have recently noticed a gap of about 1mm between the two sections, and also the end section(nearest the breach ) seems very loose and rotates rotates about 20 degrees.. is this normal for this model or do i need to take it to a gunsmith to have it tightened in some way? is it possible that this will effect accuracy...Any info much ap

SS.. Dont think you would have a problem getting a variation for a .22lr, but because you have only had your ticket for a short while i am assuming that you are at the moment shooting on ground that has been assesed for your use, therefore if your ticket is not "open condition", any new ground you obtain would have to assesed by the police for suitability( if not already done). In my experience open condition certificates are not normally issued untill at least 18 months of experiece of handling fire arms.. you have probably thought about this already but just incase!!!! take care

Ballistic Tips ~ Varmint Express Hornady 35gr V Max
Lewdan replied to a topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
HI Ditch. i am also trying out the hornaday V max bullets tried the 35 grainers last week ( had some of my mate) seemed accurate enough at about 100yds but only tried them on paper targets.... been out today crow shooting, but took my hornet to try out some 40 grain V max when i had the chance, had a quick sighting session to get things on song, then settled down about 120 yds from some rabbit holes and waited.. after about 15 mins out comes the first rabbit levelled the rifle on it, took the shot and saw the rabbit fly about a foot in the air, waited another 10 mins another rabbit, this ti -

You will have a problem doing any better than a SAK for £30 on a HMR. You may just improve it by 1 or 2db at best but it will seriously cost you! Is the £30 sak proofed for use on .17 hmr?? because they are asking £60 plus at litts of newport, but these are marked--proofed for .17hmr. Just a thought, this could be a new topic Does a moderator have to be proof marked to be put on ticket?????? Cheers, Keith £60 in Litts! They dont normally rip off like that. You would have to look on the individual moderator to see whether it has been proofed for an in

Hi mate had a .17hmr up untill 4 months ago now moved on to .22 centre fire --anyway mine was cz american with heavy barrel shortened to 16 inches, fitted with a dragon moderator-- was dogs nuts, great accuracy and the dragon mod shut it up quite a lot ie better than sak.. i am in contact with a local gunsmith who was one of the first to experiment with barrel length on th .17hmr and did a lot of work on accuracy ect, he also manufactures the dragon mods.. if you need any info pm me. Cheers

JAMIE.as keith says tasco are good for the money the new range of scopes are decent but for £50 for a hornet you cant beat that with a big stick. Cheers Boys, Thanks for replys deal will be done this weekend Keith...

Hi mate, have a look on e-bay for SONIC ear plugs, They are fitted with a valve system that allows normal conversation but valve closes with tebulance of air pressure caused by sudden loud noises ( I THINK )-- anyway my mate has them and says they are very good. not sure of price.. myself being a bit tight use the disposable type used at my work.

Hi All. Got a chance to buy a "Tasco Worldclass Plus" 3.5 x 10 x 50 scope from a guy at my local range. Just wondered if any one uses, or has any feedback on this type--- cant find much info on them on web PS he wants about £50 will use it on my .22hornet. Cheers

hI Jed , Why not a Ruger 10/22? had one for years, gave me no problems ----- ok .the odd jam if you use cheap and nasty ammo ( sub sonic ), but all self loaders will suffer from this problem. i did my own experiments with ammo in sub- sinics and found winchester or eley were best for accuracy and gave no jamming. There are so many ruger 10/22 models about that it is fairly easy to pick up a good used model for about £200 if needed, also other than the action there is a whole bundle of custom parts you can buy seperately( see fimfire magic )high velosity rounds dont normally cause a problem wi

I HAVE BOTH CALIBRES. THE 17 IS A CRACKING ROUND AND CAN TAKE RABBITS OUT TO 200 YDS IF YOU CAN HIT THEM? ( NOT TOO GOOD IN WIND ), AND THEY WILL ALSO DROP A FOX AT 100 YDS PLUS, IF HIT RIGHT--- AMMO ABOUT £20 A HUNDRED. .22 LR CAN TAKE RABBITS QUIETLY WITH SUBSONICS AT 50YDS, OR AT 100YDS WITH HIGH VELOSITY, CAN ALSO TAKE A FOX AT MAX 100YDS IF HIT RIGHT------ AMMO ABOUT £10 HUNDRED BOTH CALIBRES WILL DO A GOOD JOB WITHIN THEIR RANGES, SO THE IDEA IS TO GET AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE!! THE .22 HAS THE ADVANTAGE OF BIGGER VARIATION OF AMMO IE SUB SONIC & HIGH VELOSITY AT REDUCED COST.
