  1. Personally I use Talpex, but a lot of guys swear by the duffus type, which can be got from the flatpack company. Talpex from killgerm (expensive) and fenns from JohnB on here. H
  2. Well done mate, good catch, nice and high on the body. I got another mole today as well, I have found the runs they use before entering the paddock so I get them before any damage is done. Keep it up H

  4. My advice would be to build a ladder trap. You can take hundreds in it easily. PM JohnB from here or visit fourteenacre website (link at the top) and buy his book. It has loads of great plans for building your own traps. H
  5. Most people call in a pro I think. That's the best way. The item you describe sounds like the rodenator, it may not be legal for that much longer, so not a great investment in the end perhaps? He should have invested some of that money in mole traps and paid to go on a course. H
  6. OTC, how could you! Very well put mate.
  7. That one from you-tube is a bucket set HTS. A square bucket is used and slots cut in the sides to take the Coni springs, this helps a little in stabilising the trap also, but I also noticed that there were two pegs, one through each of the spring coils on the outside of the bucket, this also stabilises the trap. The bucket is baited in the back. They are extremely effective sets for many species. I believe Chalkwarren has used old icecream tubs in a similar way for grey squirrels. H
  8. Can you put up a link? Not sure which cubbies you are on about mate. H
  9. You smell a rat in amongst all those rabbits! Well done OTC, nice to see how the ptos do it H
  10. Not been on that stretch... wonder who I know that has another stretch...? H
  11. The green droppings on the moss are definately water vole in my opinion, HOWEVER, I have seen rat shit exactly the same, the difference is in the dry droppings. Nice fly water there too, I have fished some of that river it is spectacular, I have to stick to the Itchen now though.
  12. As you can see Logun, no one here is a fan of this thing. I didn't mean to be rude with my first reply, I thought it would just be better for you to read some previous comments. To be honest, most of us think this thing is used by amateurs more than pro's, and those people have no consideration for the welfare of the animal. You MUST ensure that the tunnel system is clear first and how do you do that? There is no way to ensure this 100%. Also, beacuse you need to clear the run, then you must trap the moles, rats, rabbits, foxes, voles,...etc first, seems like double the work mate.
  13. To be honest Logun, you would do well to search for the topics concerning this piece of 'equipment'. They will tell you all you need to know. H
  14. That sound very familiar. I believe certain parties on here have been fighting beaurocracy for years and are still not being listened to, whether it's trapping or snaring. I have no idea why or how the grey squirrel was introduced over here, or whether it escaped from small zoo, but the damage is done. MINK however, released by the numpty anti's have devastated our countryside and forced a lot of species to the edge of extinction. I would love to see those little sods exterminated. I am busy doing my part for the mink cull by avoiding them all together... Three body grip sets down by the
  15. I think if everyone in britain with a gun went out one weekend we still wouldn't make a massive hole in the population... £25 million a year for damage. I honestly thought it would have been higher. Food crops, property, clean up. I suppose they are not counting rat and mice damage in that so £25 million for damages by invasive species might be about right. Where's me gun...? H
  16. So that's why you ordered all them cubbies from Masterhunter! H
  17. Kenneth Williams played a gardener called Arthur Fallowfield in the BBC radio comedy series Beyond Our Ken. His reply to any question was (in West Country accent) "The answer lies in the soil". Is that it? H
  18. In your original post Foxy09 you stated that £25 million was for removal of invasive species altogether? That is a massive task and I would say impossible. Every grey squirrel, every mink, etc? £25 million wouldn't come close I don't think. I remember a few years ago I used to bounty hunt Gooseanders for the tweed commission, then they stated they could only be shot whilst on the water in question (not flying over) and then they banned the cull altogether! I think if we tried to eradicate any species no matter how destructive, the anti's would be up in arms calling it a holocaust or
  19. A good piece of advice that from snareman. Chalkwarren told me a very similar thing also. H
  20. got meself a monarch but the bait disapears and no rat, is this poss as you got to go through a trap door to get the bait i need answers fast Mice. They get through the mesh, steal the bait and get out the same way. H
  21. Here are a few of my traps I speed dipped a couple of months ago. I also have some cammo paint (army issue) in aerosol form which dries to a matt enamel finish and will spray one or two with this and see if there is much difference. H
  22. PETA, the group who call themselves the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ That's in America, what organisations do we know over here that might be as two faced? H
  23. I am not going to join in the argument in any way. I merely will say that I like the body grip for it's many uses. I have only two Fenns, both are mark iv's and have had rats and mice in them and they were all dead, however, as has been pointed out on this thread, if an animal goes into a trap and is then found UP TO 24 hours later (within the law) you would hope the animal would be dead, BUT, that does not signify an instant kill. If the laws change, I think we will see some vast improvements in the quality of traps on the market and this might go a long way to banning the import, selling an
  24. Make them with 2 foot x 6 inch board on three sides, and then put 2 stout sticks into the ground at the entrances of the tunnel. The mink will usually run the middle of the three holes so presented, and will cross the pan of the trap exactly where you want him. Bigger things don't tend to bother tunnels unless they are fish baited in my experience. There are usually plenty of natural bank overhangs and suchlike under roots etc that can be exploited too. they are not difficult to catch and are not trap shy at all. OTC Yep. What I do with tunnels and cubbies, is use a piece o
  25. Good going JohnGalway, I was going to keep my call bird over the winter too, but as I was away for a few weeks I had to dispatch it before I went (no one to feed it). My larson is also set up in a permanent position and now it's time to bait up I think All the best H
