  1. Im pretty sure it was the day after the stag season finished, and the unmistakeable siloette of a stag appeared on the skyline, as i watched from the bothy. And only days before we had been searching miles of open hill to try to bag a couple more before the seasons end, but they were keeping well out of the way, all we were seeing was hinds!! They know when the stag season ends, im sure of it!!! And its probably because as soon as it ends, we put out blocks for them, which the stags take advantage of to help them bounce back after a gruelling rut. One feeder stag that the stalker recognised, h
  2. Ive used zeiss bins' when I was an understalker in the highlands, they were compact but very good quality of vision, and lifetime warranty. The stalker always said if you bought zeiss or swarovski, you would never need to buy again.
  3. Ive never had that problem before. My terriers arent broken to ferrets anyway, but my lurcher is and my spaniels are, as are many of my friends hunting dogs including terriers......they should know the difference. imho
  4. There have been good numbers of otters on this river for ever basically, even when their numbers were low nationally the old lads say there were plenty about. But I was catching 12-20 mink a year on my 4 mile stretch alone when I was keepering, and the otters were a common sight, aswel as their pad marks and shits............ so the two DEFFINATELY co-exist!! 100%!! I doubt they see eye to eye, but they will live side by side. Ask anyone that fishes/hunts/traps the Tyne, theres loads of BOTH. I now trap a much greater ammount of mink, and cover much more water. Trapping still takes mos
  5. You mean Coypu, they are like a vegetarian, bever-like, large rat- looking type rodent. They were living 'wild' in the south east, Norfolk broads, they soon became very densly populated, they were knacking whole fields of crops, the waterways were plagued with them. I belive they escaped from fur farms. All methods were used to eradicate them from the country, as they were such a bad pest.
  6. Ive just got a second pair this christmas of the missus, but they do have faults!! Or maybe im just very hard on boots, but my last ones were ripped to shreds, the neoprene disintegrated on the insides, and the rubber split all over the place, but they were still semi water proof, much to the amazement of everyone who seen me wearing the most tattered pair of wellies ever!! However they are warm, very comfortable, half decent grip (which does wear down fast). But ive already got a split in the rubber on the front of one of my new boots Not good with barbed wire at all, but what wellies are?
  7. You could make yourself an easy tealer out of fencing wire, would make things a bit easier. We cant use locking snares over here in UK, but same methods apply. Hope you pick up some bunnies, good luck. DnN
  8. I think the detail is ok on some of them, they are nice photos mate, I wish I could afford a half decent camera!!!
  9. definatly not roe.........
  10. That combo sounds good, and I would also be getting a canopy for the back! Thanks again...........you wouldnt know about the toyota extra cab, im guessing their going to have similar dimensions to the other king cab types. But they do more miles per gallon than the nissan or mitsubishi pick ups and I cover some ground!! I like those defenders nice vehicles.
  11. so pretty much any bike should fit into them then! That would be good news for me. hope your right winkhound, cheers
  12. Trailer not an option for me. quad MUST go into the back, and the back MUST be closeable. If anyone has any experience of a quad going into a king cab or extra-cab size pick up i would be very grateful. But looks as though im getting a single cab, oh well! Cheers all DnN
  13. Most quads will fit in width wise, well honda and yamaha anyway, but from what I can understand only a single cabber will fully accomodate a bike. I have been googling like mad you see, and it seems that the hilux extra cab is just to short to fit most bikes in, even the wee suzuki ones are too long but only by 7 centimeters, so it looks like im going to have to get a single cab, which is a shame as the back seats would have been handy. If anyone has any other answers or info, will be much apperciated. Cheers DnN
  14. I also have a copy of that book, its great reference, covers all subjects.
  15. Fazza's answer was spot on you muppet, and you call him a prick!
  16. I also feed whole gutted rabbit, never had a problem, the bones of all poultry, game venison are fine raw.......... just dont give cooked chicken rabbit or mutton bones. Many people say freeze them first as this will kill off any worms/eggs that are in the meat, but I just dont have the freezer space to do this, as i have 7 working dogs and 3 pups to feed. I just worm regular, and my dogs are always healthy. Nice to hear your new lurcher is feeding the pack, thats the way, will save a lot on feed bills.
  17. Wrap them in a bit of butter or cheese
  18. Look a lot like the Aussie pigeons....... very bonny plumage! Are they shot/eaten much over there?
  19. Its the Ashington and Bedlington lads you want to shoot if you want to save salmon stocks in Northumberland :11:
  20. If what you say is fact, you have a winning case there guaranteed! I would be pressing charges! But I find it very hard to belive that any police officer would say that shooting three dogs for simply tresspassing into a field containing sheep, was right! Very strange! Good luck with the case....... as he would be a complete idiot if he isnt going to town on the basterds.
  21. Any one know if a quad bike will go into the back of a king cab type pick-up?, must be able to close the back with the bike in. cheers DnN
  22. Im going to PUB aswell, should be good crack, happy new year..... again ! From DnN
  23. Ive kept leghorns for eggs, mine layed like machines mate, ive still got one and at 5 yerars old it still lays well! I kept white leghorns, both large and bantam, not much difference in size of egg either, nice white eggs too!
  24. I was planning a major lamping mishion tonight, but its a very hard frost, so thaught it would be a bad idea, as my lurchers feet may suffer and dont want him off work lame. So, im sat in front of the fire at the mo', but im getting hassle off friends to get my arse down the pub!! Piss heads!! I dont know weather I can be arsed or not, but the further I get through this crate of stella, the more its seeming a really good idea! Whatever you do, have a good night, and all the best for the new year
