  1. ferric choloride granuals is what you want from ebay cheap enough , other things will do it but nothing as good as the ferric . lime juice , vinagur etc all have an effect but if you use ferric it will be uniform and you have a control over the etch , ie stronger solution for deeper bite etc . some things you need to know before tho is ... the peice needs to be really clean no finger prints grease dirt or anything else can be on it or you will get areas that dont etch or minimum will be uneven . so use alcohol or something similar to deep clean it before you think about emersing it . you ca
  2. there is decent "bladesmith " on here and loads of knife makers !! its one of those things if you want it you will find the info . iv invited loads of people over to learn to forge stuff up from basic blades to damascus but nobody ever turns up !!! there is one member on here who we have agreed will come over and forge up a few files into knives then im not going to offer anymore !! first thing first work out if you want to be a knife maker or a bladesmith/cutler bladesmith/cutler understand the steels and start with raw materials working to the point of a finnished knife bar the handle

  5. if your apoxi fails tho your knife will come apart . you still need a close tolerance and burning in has work for 3,000 years ! burning will work on horn/antler to !
  6. small pillot hole get the tang tip red hot and force it in , it will burn the perfect hole , just dont let the blade get to hot or hot at all it will ruin the temper , i hold mine in cold tap water as a heat sink and just heat the tang . then when your happy apoxi it (araldite rapid), the tricky bit is going to get the handle to line up with blade profile , i have spent hours and hours looking at that knife and wondering how to do it , and what material will suit it . for a long time i did think antler with brass guard . because its very old steel in it (the oldest file i have ever used) and

  18. thanks its a canadian styled knife i did last year , its in austria with its happy owner . the liners on that are 2x 1mm ally sheet with a thin layer of paper micarta as a spacer between them , and of course the lightening strick file work . have fun !!
  19. any of the stainles would suit gutting/skinning jobs on rabbit . i like #4 and #6 personaly but the other to have more skinner tips to them if you wanted to whip the jacket of a fox or munty . all the best , matt.

  21. hi i buy long lengths of the pin material and cut to measure , the bolts you are describing are called corby , loveles or acorn bolts usualy £10 a pair so £20 worth for the 3 holes !! liners are just for decoration really they can be made of anything but you want them to be stable (water proof etc) so that nothing can penotrate between the blade and handle (blood water general bactiria) you can get all this stuff from almost anywhewre even B&Q if you look about but ebay has good solection and are probably the most conviniant . 2 ton rapid set apoxi is all you need to bond everything tog
