  1. yeah owens one of the top uk smiths , a very busy man with tv work etc , he was the head engineer on scrap heap challenge for 7 years !! i thought they would be weird to use but there not at al,l more accurate than a normal hammer , them japs know what there doing i spose . dont worry about shiney there all forged to have small marks etc on them and after one good days use they will no longer be shiney my hammers look like a seagull has crapped them out ha !! 2lbs hammer is a great tool most used for finnishing and for the first course of blows that set the welds when making damascus , a
  2. hi i have forged some weight forward hammers they are in the aprox 2lbs weight range some slightly over some just under . all have quality 12" hickory handles , one is 10" more for detail beveling . they have a deferential heat treat hard face with softer heal . the steel is s2 high impact steel . the hammers are 3cm or just over and inch wide on the face to give a high weight to surface area effect , i find them very accurate and work brilliantly for beveling . £40 recorded postage to your door . paypal is fine all the best , matt.
  3. im sure it will but there is no short cut to getting it mirror you need every grade form 60. . 120. 240. 320. 400 ,600, 800, 1000, 1500, then final 2000. then buff with a cesil mop and brown compound in all directions , clean all the compound off then a stitched mop with green compund , clean again then go with an unstitched cotton mop and pink or white compound . every time you change to a new grit you need to move only in one direction ie realy straight , but you need to change direction with every paper grit . if that makes sence unles its a knife makers linisher the grits will be to hars
  4. no with enough elbow grease it will go to mirror finnish . its a shame your not coming over with it i have a machine that would surface grind it flat and take it to an even 120 grit finnish , would have saved lots of work and establish a grain to the metal . the wax on the wood is to stop splitting as the wood continues to dry , the cut edge would dihidrate faster and cause warping/splitting . it justs sands away ! it does look beautiful wood !
