  1. My Choices:- Annie and AMT like eleys, Finnfire like rws.
  2. Around the £325 mark plus or minus £50.
  3. To be honest I can't think of anything you will get for £100 that is up to the job. Double your money and look at s/h weihrauchs.
  4. It depends on how much money you want to throw at it. Typically new prices are £3/400 upwards. Cz ,ruger,hw,sako, anschutz, cooper. If you want a bargain s/h, look at the old cz bruno's, these can be had for little over a £100 s/h from a gunshop.
  5. Hi If the Daystate has a brass compression tube and a square ish breech then it's likely to be a Midas Huntsman model. Swp will be on the side of the breech. Two types of trigger were available, std and match. The match trigger has a straight brass blade and two stage release. A simple solid rifle. neil
  6. I would put in for all three, remember you don't have to buy the hmr or .223 straight away. A servicable .22lr can be had for around £100. Some forces will not grant .22lr or hmr for fox btw. And don't forget mods for all of the rifles you put down. neil
  7. They all look nice head shots, young ones do tend to flip about even though the brains are mushed. The chap knows what he's doing.
  8. Hi John I would try the accutrigger on the rifle you want to buy as they seem variable. On the context that they felt light and clean at the mgf, my mate bought a hb savage laminate and the accutrigger was pants on his, and has been back to the smithy for remedial work to get it right. If you want to fling some money at it, try a Cooper. Or a Weihrauch as another option.
  9. Get a s/h tx200, then you won't need to upgrade. Buying s/h do a face to face deal unless you know the rifle and person selling.
  10. Hi I would push a .22 pellet (barracuda) through the tube to check that there are no loose spots in the barrel before you chop. The rifle will feel a bit more lively to fire with a short and light barrel, though a short varmint barrel keeps enough weight upfront to negate any muzzle movement. A bipod helps stability with a short light barrel. Those are my finding.
  11. Most zero their hmr between 100 and 130 to get the most from the flat trajectory, similar to the 50/60yd zero argument with .22subs. Don't worry about 200yds for a while that's a long way out for hmr. Best to stretch the distance out slowly.
  12. I think the crack of the hmr disguises the thump of the bullet,so the rabbits sit tight as they think the sound is coming from some distance away, sometimes.
  13. Ask your feo to pop around (get his direct phone number) so you can have a word with him f to f. Dedicated nv is a valid reason. Even more so if you have a unit there to fit. I have three btw all for vermin.
  14. Body shots with a 12ftlb air will be ineffective, as will trying to shoot a springer off sticks. Springers need to float in the firing cycle to obtain best accuracy due to the two way action of the recoil phase in piston guns. Point of zero for a spring gun may well change with the position used, so check your zero with the position you will be using to hunt.
  15. iirc stingers are a tad longer in the case and may cause some chambering issues (damage) with match chambers which the sako has. Subs are best.
  16. Hi I have a finnfire and I have found the best are rws subs, they shoot groups less than 1/2" at 50, sometimes 1/4" if I'm on form. Mine has a tight chamber and eleys were tough to cycle. Lapua subs were accurate, but have a very small hollow point and are not as good for body shots. Winchester were on and off as you have found. Remingtons, I would not bother with to be honest. Neil
  17. Hi glad you are enjoying the new rifle. Ammo wise I would try winchester and eley at 50yds to see which one works. At that range the most accurate will be easy to see. As hinted on other replies, the quality of the internal tolerances on scopes comes into play at cf ranges. Though at 50yds it maybe not apparent.
  18. I've got bushnell trophy 3-9x40 on mine with a dampa mount.
  19. As above well have pulled out a few that have torpedoed down the hole. However my mate got a surprise one night when he pulled out a clean and fit rabbit. T'was touch and go as to who was winning for a min as big bucks have quite a kick.
  20. Softly softly, I would approach the farmer saying that you can no longer control the rabbits as the new tenant does not want the place to be shot. I reckon he will be on the blower to her tout suite and you will be invited back on. In any event he may know another farmer down the road with a rabbit problem.
  21. Just nerves, if you want them to just flop then a shot to the back of the head between the ears tends to stop any movement as it parts the brain between the spinal cord.
  22. I would check the accuracy of the std rifle before you go shortening etc as a bench mark. neil
