Hi Rob I've used the pular on a bushnell trophy 4-12x40, tasco old school 4-16x40, menace 7.5x50.I will check it out on a 3-12x44 swat and a 4-12 mamba lite tomorrow. neil.

. "My father upgraded his a while ago to a cobra gen 2+ and after using it last week and i could clearly see rabbits at over 300 yards as clear as day i shall be upgrading mine in the next few weeks! Gen1 for sale anyone :-)" The cobra titan is a very nice unit , we were comparing gen2 units the other night, same scope same lasers. Would you believe it one dipol was brighter than the other! Anyways re original post, the atn dedicated gen 1 unit is a good example of a gen1 dedicated, however the two main probs with it are the low mag 4-5

Hi Scramble have you used one of these led units with an 850nm output on a tubed gen1 addon. All my research is saying the 850nm led is great for digi stuff, but pants for tubed gen 1 stuff which are most sensitive in the 790-805nm region. neil

s/h leupold v111 or vx3. I would avoid twiddly bits on cheap scopes. Unfortunately with optics you get what you pay for and build quality is paramount once you start reaching out.

Hi Rob re addon units. by getting a set of reach forward mounts you can soak up some of the length of the addon unit and the set up is still very useable in the day time (just lean into the scope a bit more).Remember with the nv unit you eye is up against the addon and not an inch or so away as in a day scope. Fitting and removing the nv addon unit is an easy ten second job (slightly slower with a raised eyepiece diopter ring). Favourite compact illumination is via a Dipol L3 or N1000 IR laser. I ha

I used lapua hollow points for a while, whilst they were very accurate on the card, I found them to be less effective than other brands on body shots presumably due to the very narrow hp lead mix. I'm now using mostly rws in my rifles and eley in another rifle that does not suite rws. btw Truelock and Harris used to stock them, though maybe a ways distant.

A slick rifle with arguably the best trigger out there. I found the sporter stock too small for me and opted for an aftermarket stock for better fit. There is a smidge of barrel flip when firing, but a bipod up front supresses it. An idea rifle for out of the cab, stalking or nv use.

Both will shoot sub 1/2" groups at 50yds, so enjoy either.

If you have the need for something quieter than a normal 12g then they can be handy. I picked mine up s/h for around £225 /250.

Hi Lapin I have the same model and for quietness the subs are well worth a go and remarkably quiet out in the open away from hedges and treelines. neil

pulsar challenger add on ..extra ir needed
stillair1 replied to bunny tickler's topic in Night Vision & Thermal
Hi Rob peep's have burn't hot spots in their tubed nv with lasers by tightening the beam to an intense spot on the screen. But in normal use where you adjust the laser beam to fill the field of view through the scope I have had no issues in 5 seasons of use with a mix of gen 1&2. Another caution btw is not to carry the rifle pointy end down with the laser lit as the close reflection off the ground and back into the nv unit may cause damage. -
Hi Rob used as an add on you'll see naff all with the inbuilt ir, maybe 10yds. Another laser which come up s/h around £100 is the dipol l3 which I use on mine. 150yds is beyond the gen1 pulsar and more in the gen2+ addon catergory. The pulsar only has a 1x lens as standard, so it's not great as a spotter. Most spotters are 3-5x. Two of the common ones are the yukon ranger and the yukon exelon. neil

pulsar challenger add on ..extra ir needed
stillair1 replied to bunny tickler's topic in Night Vision & Thermal
Does the night master 800 ir work with the gen1 pulsar addon as it's tubed rather than digital? I'm using a dipol l3 laser on mine, but led units give a cleaner beam. -
Been using a cheap 2mp from deben for a while now in my chicken run to assess the roland situation. For around £100 the unit works well. Minimum focus is supposed to be 3m, but I find it more than adequate from 1m out. The ir unit needs damping down with some black tape for close in stuff otherwise it over exposes. I've also caught the local fox ghosting throught the garden. It does 15sec video clips too. I've mounted mine on one of those gorillapods rather than using the supplied strap. Trigger time is quoted at

what scope for cz 452 .22lr
stillair1 replied to bullit666's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
As said quality optics over big front end lenses. Something like a bushnell trophy 4-12x40. It has enough mag at 12x to fine zero at 50yds. Wind it back down to 6mag to hunt with, set parallax at 50yds and your good to go. -
I've got the wood varmint model in hmr. Of the 4 stock versions, this one felt right in the pistol grip for me. Btw I believe there is a range stock version around, though I'm not sure it's made it's way to blighty yet. http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu185/stillair1/DSC00434.jpg

Right handed and left eye dominant
stillair1 replied to kevmag's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'm the same right handed ,left eye dom. At the basc laser shotgun clinic they gave two options. Shoot with left eye closed. or shoot off the left shoulder. -
As mentioned remove after use and give the internals a squirt of wd40 to help prolong the life of the mod.
-
Fit a mod and you won't go back to an un modded rifle. Make sure its done properly by a good smithy. It will cost a few more notes than handy sid down the road, but spend a bit more and cry once.
-
Bait to point of zero and head shoot with subs if you know what you are doing. But there are better tools for the job if noise and backdrop alllow.
-
Most air rifles can be turned to fac, but the buddy bottle rifles excel at 30ftlb+ level. Just make sure it's not been mullered before you get it as it will never run at it's optimimum.
-
Best to get a rifle that comes with a threaded barrel, it will save on cost later. Once you have shot a modded cf there is no going back.

Go for a bolt action as it's your first rf. Any of these will be good depending on how deep your wallet is:-cz, weihrauch, anschutz, sako.
-
Hi you need to get to a shop or two and shoulder several makes, including pulling the triggers. What looks good on paper may not feel right in the flesh. The scope and mod on that outfit are only worth about £50/60, so take that into account. As a guide an hmr outfit should group to 1" or less at 100yds under ideal conditions. As long as there is a warranty s/h then no problem. Personally I would look at something european. neil

The trouble with the 10/22 is the quality control and build tolerances. Some will work straight out of the box, some will need fettling. For your first rf I would go for a bolt action. Semi autos can be made as accurate as a bolt action, but it's likely to cost you a few bob to get there.
