  1. Having been beaten around the head with a hammer and probably demanding the location of the guns, then I would have just given them over, They're not worth fighting over when you're outnumbered four to one. Must have been a terrifying ordeal for them both and I hope they're all caught and sent back to prison, where they've no doubt been before.
  2. Dont go and discourage them now Del, this thread is the only thing that puts me to sleep at night! Can I refer you to the 177 vs 22 debate(s) in the airgun section? That's my back up, closely followed by "HMR for Fox?"

  4. I don't believe that we are too far away from this chum. Wales is almost subaquatic these days. I'm tempted to chop in my fox gun for a Greener Harpoon
  5. The muzzle energy and grain of bullet they're suggesting is basically a .22 Hornet. This is a small calibre round designed for the shorter range Fox shooter and although it is perfectly capable in the right hands of being used to kill much larger animals, for me it's too small for seals. They're big animals with a small target to kill them cleanly. For me, it would be a larger calibre rifle, something like a .308 Winchester and I would definitely apply for a sound moderator (silencer) at the same time. They are very, very rarely refused these days, in fact, the majority will have each c
  6. But it just goes to show how easy it is to come by illegal guns in the UK. If they banned every firearm from civilian ownership, the criminal would still have the pick of whatever they needed, from a single shot rocket to a Boer war .303.
  7. It may sound daft Walshie but if you bought something like a CZ 527 in right hand and couldn't get on with it because of the right handed stock... You could probably order another stock which was left hand or Ambi from somewhere like Boyds and you just have the bolt to contend with then. Only thing you'd have to make sure of with that is that the bolt handle notch is in the right place. Just a thought.
  8. Anything over 2+1 has to be entered on a FAC. It depends on the shotgun as to how easy it is to convert. Some have aftermarket extension tubes which don't take much fitting to convert to Section 1 FAC. Winchester SXP being one.

  10. I do like the SX3, I have one. But I also like the Browning A5 or Maxus. Classic guns.
  11. It used to be since last grant or renewal, not any more, I recently renewed my sgc, the form now asks for ALL convictions to be listed. I really don't know why they bother asking the question at all unless it's for foreign convictions. It should just form part of their background checks. There's no reason they wouldn't know every conviction of every person received in any county of England, Wales, Scotland or NI. Perhaps it's also to see if your honest and an upstanding person ? Just like in the Police, MP's or any profession I even imagine that some FAC holders are not as squeek
  12. I have the Hushpower version and mine is ready for a rail Mine is a black synthetic version.
  13. I''m not saying they don't get things wrong, they do and frequently. I've had guns that I've never owned turn up on my renewed FAC. But I suppose what I'm trying to get at is that there's no need to "Justify" your need for expanding ammunition, it should be added automatically for field shooting. Sometimes it will be forgotten
  14. Is this something to do with the new forms? Whilst it may well be added, as far as I'm aware, if you want expanding, make sure you ask for it regardless. There's nowhere on the forms to ask for expanding ammo but it must be added by the firearms team if live quarry is sought. Albeit the only animal you legally have to use expanding ammunition on it Deer, if the rifle is not solely for target shooting, then expanding ammunition is added as a separate condition on the certificate. If they don't add it, it will more than likely be an oversight rather than it not being au

  17. Between 3 months and 3 years it's a five year ban from date of release. Over 3 years, it's a lifetime ban only overturned in Crown Court. Includes suspended sentences these days too.
  18. Give them a ring if it's not in the notes Dyktos, From what I remember, it is only convictions received since last grant or renewal. Definitely best to ring them and check but I'm almost certain that's the case.
  19. I find shooting folk like Magpies. See a bright shiny new gun and instantly "play time" comes to mind
  20. We found a load of paper cased ones under the seat of a Land Rover that had been bought by the boss when I was a Keeper. One lad took the lot and went roost shooting with them . He must have been in a hot-spot because he had far more shots than me. Most of the cartridges worked but a few needed turning in the breech and even worse every once in a while there would be a dull fart . The lad admitted in he didn't think to check his barrels after the half-fires !. I've heard stories of paper cases that have become weak sending the whole shell apart from the brass up the barrel If yo
  21. I was given a bag full of paper cased cartridges by someone who had to give up shooting and in there were six shells that stopped being made by Eley in the 30's. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to try firing one which went off and did it's job years later They'd been kept in good nick though all that time.
  22. "Presence" again is not defined in the Firearms Act so it would certainly be ambiguous. Normally, it is taken to be within sight or earshot of the person lending the gun. Depends on how long ago it was too. The Firearms Act hasn't changed a huge amount in it's basics since it was enacted in 1968.
  23. Indeed, if you've been summonsed or charged to court, then you must appear or risk a warrant being issued by the court for your arrest. That would definitely put paid to any certificate.
  24. You're best bet first of all is to strip the action and barrel out of the stock and then see how easy it would be to disassemble the safety. Mine went almost jammed so it wouldn't move but it just needed a good clean with a decent gun oil/solvent.
  25. When you say you're waiting to go to court, have you been arrested/interviewed/charged or summonsed to court? Or has none of that happened yet.
