BELITON? nice to see the folk who set up this poll really know their dogs

Mind you some anorak 'll probably be so pre-occupied with mentioning that penguins come from the Southern hemisphere that they'll not notice that not only is the reindeer in the picture standing on two legs ,it is talking English... Everyone knows they speak either one of several Inuit dialects or Saalmi

Had a mole job to do some way from home so thought as i was travelling so far I'd set the mole traps , spend the day ferreting and then check the traps for moles before going home. Did'nt quite work out as over the last few days the stream surrounding the small-holding on three sides had burst its' banks & flooded most of the burrows . Only one good dry burrow left so it was quite a short ferreting trip.

why has my mk3 started being tempuramental ?
comanche replied to ferret boy charlie's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
New batteries ? you've tried that though. Batteries in the right way up?. Spect you've checked that too. Good clean connections all round?. Have you tried another set of new batteies just in case you have been sold one or more duds? Sometimes a small piece of rubber band gently eased under the collar terminals helps to make a more positive connection .(If you find that squeezing the collar unit cures erratic performance this last suggestion is a good solution). Out of interest , jewellers always handle watch batteries with plastic tweezers & wipe the batteries with a cloth .Thi -
I was told by a customer ,an ex RAF pilot ,that he recognised myDeben mk3 collars as cut-down military watch straps .Another source perhaps .

And their inspecters carry what they like to call a "Warrent Card" as if they had some sort of police powers. B*llocks ,it's just an ID card with no legal attachments at all.

Probably one of if not the most intelligent domestic dog breeds.Very close to a feral dog mentallity.

Another of Mums' sayings . If she saw someone who was a little ,er ,overweight or had a large bottom she'd mutter. "Butter will be cheap when grass grows there". Took me years to work it out Big person covered in lots of grass thus supporting a large herd of cows =high milk yield=drop in dairy prices = cheap butter ,phew.

Mum had a similar one about rubbing two bits of rhubarb together to make fire . I think it means ,"it'll never happen".

To honest if,back in my keepering days, I'd come across a chap with a lamp and lurcher strolling the lanes at stupid 0'clock at night I might well have thought it reasonable to ask questions especially if I'd had previous problems with poaching. On the other hand; If you are innocent do not under any circumstances allow them to "let you off" with a caution .Accepting a "caution" is an addmission of guilt. Tell em that You will not accept the "caution " and they will have to either charge you with a crime and take you to court or let you walk scott free ..with your lamp! Ps I'm sure y

BDS would love a total ban on the use of shotguns against deer both on welfare grounds and as a way of boosting their desired monopoly of all matters concerning deer in this country. Sadly , in many areas rifle stalkers are proving unable to control deer numbers . Sometimes this is due to the practical limitations of the situation and sometimes it is because there is possibly too much emphasis on selective culls.(That last statement won't make me popular). The truth is that in my area rifle-stalkers have failed to control deer numbers and the population ,especially of fallow is amazin

Heard some noises in the loft so I went to investigate. No sign of life but I must have disturbed some dwarves at breakfast because they had abandoned their sausages everywhere..... Either that or I have bats but that is far less interesting prospect than an infestation of fairy-folk

A Royal Enfield Mk2 Interceptor. ...With a very tame mechanic -
My mate and his lad (I was doing the David Baily) and our scurvy hounds!

I've been trying but can't find anything official. I'm sure Unnatural England would like to promote a policy of non-enforcement on their part as it would be "one less job" for them and the onus would be on the agrieved landowner to sue his neighbour in a Civil Action at his own expense. Not sure the article is totally believable. I 'm given to understand that there is no single maximum fine of £5oo involved for non-complience as stated in the article .I believe that a single fine is applicable for non complience with an Order and this is then followed by further fines (I guess a l

It's quite normal for the mk3(or at least the ones I've used) to be pessimistic when giving a guide to depth.I have a letter from Debens which admits that the gauges are not accurate..They are taking the micky charging £130 for a bit of kit that can overestimate depth by up to 75 or even 100% . On the bright side ,once you know that a 4ft reading actually means only a two foot dig there is no problem. The answer ,as has been said is to read the instructions and then have a good play until you are familiar with the tool and it's quirks. good luck

The mk 2 transmitter /battery cases are black as opposed to grey in the mk3. Don't know if a mk 2 reciever will pick-up a mk3 collar but I can't see why not as a mk 3 will pick-up a mk2 collar . You are right "the one" mk2 collars do use up batteries a bit quicker than mk3's probably because they tick a bit faster . This is actually usefull as if you ,like I do, run one ferret with a mk2 collar and one with a mk3 collar it's easy to identify individual ferrets below ground . Both mk2 & mk 3 collars work with the grey "mk 1" reciever up to ten or eleven feet .

Why not cut yourself a load of whips and take em with you? A few years ago I did some willow archways simply by sticking whips into the ground . Been called to a couple of willow play-dens in the past because the people that promote these little enviromentally friendly structures tend not to inform their customers that come the end of summer Willow is very enviromentally friendly to swarms of wasps . Just right when there are sticky kids about !

nice bike commanche Sadly yes . Actually pulled it out of the shed wth the idea of selling it . Bad move . Having decided that a couple of hours on the wiring were in order & that maybe that old alloy tank I've kept for years could be made to fit ? . Bugger it .Started second kick and the tanks at the welders. That's why I was'nt worried about the dog scratching the old tank.. So I shall be keeping it for another few years yet ! That's assuming the dog does'nt do a Great Escape stunt .She's a bugger for barbed wire!

I think it's this sort of thing makes" partners " think twice about pushing too hard for the ring !

Probably a magistrate 'll simply order compensation and order that the dog be kept under control . If it could be proved that the dog's owner knew the dog had a propensity for this sort of thing but failed to take extra precautions to control it the judge might impose more restrictive conditions . At the end of the day if the dog did the deed it's only fair that the farmer be compensated . Maybe he's being a bit "hard" about the situation because he has experienced this sort of thing before . As for the police "Damned if they do .Damned if they don't" . One minute they are accuse

No it's not like an albino at all - it is a whole new species of squirrel - Prevost's Squirrel or Asian Tri-colored Squirrel (Callosciurus prevostii) OTC Saw the pictures & thought some really skillfull hairdressing apprentice was having a bit of a joke with the hair dye but decided that it was too good a job for that . Looked it up and voila ! Prevost's squirrels . Such great colours and demarkation of markings . Someone's head should technically role for letting em go of course but ......

Help/Advice Training Saluki
comanche replied to Doglost Co-Ordinator's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Not an expert but I've trained two saluki bloodied lurchers and my daughter also has one . Sometimes they seem to be totally on another mental level to other dogs , far away, almost spiritual .Sort of "New Agers" of the dog world . They can flip though, into frenzied hunters and ruthless killers when roused. A few seconds later the same dog will revert back to being a High Plains Drifter. Gentle handling ,no shouting or temper losing should be the order of the day. The rules of training any breed apply but they need to be applied more quietly yet very firmly. My present bitch s -
