  1. I like him alot mate. Like a bit of saluki in a dog ;-)
  2. I thought it was a wjnd up because a) you are wanting to breed from a 20 month old bitch and you don't mention what you want from the breeding. ie) she lacks take off speed so add whippet, she lacks stamina so add saluki. Original post just may be badly worded. You need to asses what good and bad assets the bitch posseses and why she is worthy of breeding off. You give the impression that since the ban you can't work your dogs much due to deer population or whatever, so how much work has this 20 month old bitch seen? Gaz
  3. Is this a wind up? Do you work your dogs?
  4. What do you want the dog to eat pal? Dry? Raw? Feed it what you want it to eat. If it doesn't eat in 10-15 mins then take it away and feed same time next day. Did this when my pup was being fussy. They eat in the end mate.
  5. Alot of people who mention "the best all rounder" seem to always mention deerhound somewhere throughout the conversation. Food for thought I think. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Nice bitch Romany and nice photo. How is she bred and are you still working these lines? Gaz
  7. Nice bitch mate, how is she bred? I got soaked last night but love just being out with the dogs. Gaz
  8. Before any saluki fans get deeply upset and ready to kill inan and skycat - I sense sarcasm! Lol. Someone said earlier, you either love them or hate them like marmite. I love them :-)
  9. Another nice one mate. How much bull and deer in there?
  10. Are you using photobucket mate? If so you need to copy the file. Gaz
  11. I've got a saluki/whip/grey He is very fast, at 9 months old he is faster than alot of other dogs both off the mark and top end. He will walk and run all day long. He has got good feet and is not nervous at all. Training has been difficult and patience is a must, it is just starting to come together now but I think it will be another 12 months before I say I am happy with his obedience. Gaz
  12. Thanks for all the input folks. Really liking the deerhound stuff at the moment. I'm thinking deer/grey x whippet somewhere down the line. Thanks Gaz
  13. My dogs get a cod liver oil daily, multivitamin few times a week an always gave pups a calcium and vitamin D tablet up to about 8 months. Gaz
  14. Thanks for replies. For now I'm still feeding RAW, but switching to dry is just something I'm considering. Skycat - Which of there products isn't cereal based? And is there a dry out there that you would recommend if you had to? Thanks Gaz
  15. That's lovely that mate.
  16. Cheers, it looks okay as far as dry goes. I can get if for £11 a bag and it's making me wonder if it's worth feeding entirely raw when I can get a decent dry food at this price. Don't get me wrong raw is best without a doubt and I will always supplement with raw now and again but when I'm working 16 hours some days and forget to get raw out of freezer or end up working away and have to ask the missus to feed them then it starts to become a ball ache. I just don't know which of the sneyds is best and what the differences are? Gaz
  17. Go for something you like the look of and then find a worker to worker bred litter. People say looks are nothing in the field, very true but I couldn't have a big rough haired half cross collie for example as I just don't like this look at all and I don't think I could bond with the dog or give it my all if I didnt like it. I like saluki crosses, whippet/greys and any of the previous with deerhound in the mix providing its smooth coated so i went for a sal/whip/grey who's parents were both doing the job day and night ;-) Gaz
  18. Thanks for the further replies on this thread. The deerhound certainly produces some nice lookers. Poacher - How was that bitch bred? She looks very racy. Rocky - Is that your bitch who you have got 2 sons off? She looks a powerful dog. Gaz
  19. Alot of people will not advise keeping a lurcher terrier together. I certainly would not keep 2 males together. I have got a 9 month old lurcher dog which I have had from a pup and 6 months ago I got a 3 year old terrier botch. They have been kept together in same kennel and run since I got the bitch but not without problems. On 2 occasions the terrier booted the lurcher out of his kennel for whatever reason, resulting in me bringing the terrier bitch in the house for 3 days at a time so the lurcher could have his kennel back. Also her season was a nightmare as you can imagine.
  20. Wow, I thought she would be alot taller considering. Lovely bitch anyway.is she useful in the field? Gaz
  21. That's one fine looking dog keeps. How tall? Gaz
  22. Saluki/Whippet/Greyhound, 9 months old and 24" tts. We run fairly small fields of various terrain and I'm hoping he catches me a few rabbits in his first season, lamp and daytime. If it was pre ban then I would of loved to slip him on a few hares but the law is what it is unfortunately :-( :-( :-( Gaz
  23. A deerhound/greyhound would be a long dog wouldn't it?
  24. Pat, If I send you my email address in PM will you keep me updated with the pups progress? I'm really interested in this cross. Gaz
