  1. I didn't really walk mine for more than 15 mins until 6 months old. Unless we went for a mooch with my mates dogs and I would pick him up for 10 mins every 15 or so. After 6 months I increased it rapidly and now at 10 months we do a couple of hours mooch and combination of road walking and off lead regular. Just got back from about hour and half off lead through country lanes along side my sisters horse as part of the old stock breaking. Gaz
  2. Thanks pal. He is just starting to drop a bit of weight these last few weeks but like you say I dont like to see a skinny pup. Gaz
  3. Thanks for the offer Dan, that would be brilliant. Any opportunity to see a decent dog doing a bit cannot be refused! Where abouts are you? I'm in Staffordshire. Darbo thanks for the positive feedback pal. Gaz
  4. This is my dogs Sire - 3/4 Grey 1/4 Saluki And my dogs Dam - 3/4 Grey 1/4 Saluki X Full Whippet
  5. I'm putting this back to the top because I know a couple of lads wanted to see him. Gaz
  6. Cheers Dave. Appreciate the info.
  7. What a statement. I feed raw but know alot of lads who feed dry. And to say they shouldn't be allowed dogs!? Grow up.
  8. Thanks for replies. Hammerdan - he is a cracking looking dog. How tall is he? I can't decide what to do, my pup is sal/whip/grey 24" tts so I think I want to get a bitch pup after he has had his first season (this season coming). I'm sure he will be a demon on rabbits and faster rabbits. I want something a bit bigger, maybe 26" and a little thicker set that would retrieve shot reds easier than a smaller dog. I've considered bull cross, collie cross, and now looking at beddy or deer cross. Just trying to broaden my knowledge on the way but beddy/grey is looking like a strong
  9. Thanks for reply. I've heard the beddy/grey compared to being a smaller deer/grey? Is this true? And how do they compare? Which would make a more versatile dog and all rounder? Gaz
  10. Rocky is almost 10 months old now (8th July) and standing 24" tts. He has had a few daytime runs on rabbits and is as keen as I could ever hope for. I have taken him out on the lamp just watching at the back end of the season and we I will be giving him a few slips as soon as the season kicks back in. Couple of pictures from last week...
  11. Are there many first cross beddy greys about or line bred half crosses for that matter? Don't see as many about as beddy whippets and I've done a search but can't find alot on them. What sort of height would a first cross bitch be likely to make? Are they biddable and easily trained? Did people prefer half or quarter beddy for rabbits and bigger stuff pre ban? Gaz
  12. Fair play to you. Keep us updated with how she goes on.
  13. Nice looking bitch. Out of interest how long had she been tied to the lamp post? Was the owner nowhere to be seen? Gaz
  14. From my limited experience, early socialisation is key to stock breaking. An older lurcher or running dog, especially if ex worker or ex racer is likely to see the ferrets as fair game and not alot else. Gaz
  15. Are you a Glaswegian pal? I never knew that. I was in Glasgow this afternoon!
  16. Okay folks, I am in Scotland working. Staying in Dundee, working on call all over, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Inverness etc. Also got acces to a mates house in St Madoes. This evening on the road from St Madoes (Perth) to Dundee I saw at least 100 rabbits just sat at the road side. Also on a roundabout at the end of the tays bridge - I counted 18 rabbits, this was at 6 pm, sat on the round about. 4 of them were black! So I'm wondering if there are this many all over Scotland and if this is the roadsides then what are the fields like??? Anyone who works lurchers in Scotland ple
  17. I have had an air rifle from as young as I remember, think my old man got me one from the age of 10 or 11. And before that I would be out setting snares and traps and with my catapult. I don't know why, none of my friends or relatives have been into hunting, I guess it's just always been in my blood from somewhere. Alongside the air rifle I always had bull breeds as a kid, staffy and then EBT and tried to get them both ratting with little success. I have wanted a lurcher since I met a bloke in the village on my paper round at the age of about 15 who had 3 deerhounds, he told me stories abo
  18. I agree that getting a good shepherd or rottie would be easier than getting a good dobe. Also a poor shepherd/rottie is a better visual deterrent than a poor dobe in my opinion. However get a good one and your laughing. Personally if I was after a guard or yard dog which I hopefully will have room for in a couple of years then would be looking at Presa x Cane Corso or Rotty x Bullmastiff. Seen both of the above and they look the part and will stop at nothing. Gaz
  19. Nice dogs chief. You won't go far wrong with Aaron's gear. Had a few pieces off him now and the quality is second to none. Gaz
  20. And growling. Whereas the big dog is twice the size and couldnt scare a fly. Its all about attitude and presence IMO mate. Gaz
  21. Trust me mate, If you get a decent dobe then it wont matter what it looks like. It will do the job. I've got 2. My bitch is fairly small and lightly built but I've seen 5 grown men tooled up with bars, shit there pants at the sight of this bitch snarling
  22. Rocky1 why do you say get something with greyhound in it? Not being funny, ive got a sal/whip/grey :-) just purely wondering what your reasons are? To add that tough of height?
  23. Personally mate I would for for 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie or 1/4 beddy. Won't go far wrong for little rabbit dogs. I'm looking at possibly deer/grey x whippet for my next dog, would be hoping for a bitch to reach 23"tts or there abouts. Gaz
