  1. Okay cheers. Sounds like its worth thinking about. Thanks Gaz
  2. Would a cocker match my JRT bitch for finding and flushing game? Will they get stuck into thick cover like a terrier will? Are there working cockers about that don't carry the stupid KC price tag? I hadn't really considered a pure spaniel due to having the above questions. Gaz
  3. I am after a busher yes. But putting a bushing russel dog over my bitch would just give me another dog that will end up going to ground. This is what I'm trying to get away from. Mongrels are not a bad thing mate. Lurchers are mongrels at the end of the day. If putting cocker blood into my russel will give me what I'm after then i will happily call it a mongrel. Gaz
  4. Ive just measured her and she is band on 10" tts. Has anyone any experience with JRT x Cocker Spaniel? I've heard they make good bushers but might the tendency to go to ground still be there? Gaz
  5. She is short legged and stocky. These pics might give you an idea... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/196399-this-mornings-walk/ She is about 10" to the shoulder yeh. I trust whatever advice you offer skycat. Gaz
  6. Just to add, the JRT in question stands about 10" tts if that. What are the smallest whippets or beddy whippets out there? Gaz
  7. Thanks for replys. It only occurred to me because I have been toying with the idea of having a litter out if my JRT. I have always liked the sound of a whirrier. My bitch is an outstanding busher, has a great nose, prey drive through the roof. Her only downside (for me) is that she goes to ground and is mental if you know what I'm saying. If I could get her attributes in a larger dog that wouldn't fit to ground then I would be very happy indeed. I thought about putting beddy over her but I know beddys can still fit down earths. So I thought maybe putting a small whippet over he
  8. Thanks for replys. I had a feeling that was the way. I didn't think a JRT would be able to carry and deliver pups from a whippet. Thanks.
  9. As title suggests, which way around is whirrier breeding usually done? Terrier over a whippet bitch or vice versa? I didn't think a small terrier would physically get on a whippet bitch. But then could a terrier bitch carry pups from a whippet sire? Thanks Gaz
  10. There are some pics of my russel bitch here with my lurcher... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/196399-this-mornings-walk/ I will be getting her clipped next weeks so will put some pics up then. Gaz
  11. Have a look back a few pages mate. There have been 3 or 4 threads on sal/whip/grey recently. One by myself. I really like them.
  12. I also like saffys and will probably be getting one in the future to work bushes and just mooch with my other dogs. As said, they probably aren't ideal and there are better dogs out there. But if your not playing the numbers game then I bet you will have some fun!!!
  13. There is one that lurks around my street at night. I've seen it in the drive. It is very confident and not scared of people at all. I'm certain it could/would attack a kid. I hope it jumps my back gate one day and meets my JRT Bitch :-D She is an evil f****r and the lurcher usually follows her lead. Lol.
  14. Stick a decent honest post up in wanted section. Someone might sort you a pup for the cost of rearing?
  15. A cat passes through my garden and over the dogs kennel every night at 3am ish and the dogs go mad. I'm putting new taller fencing up next week and I hope for the cats sake it doesn't take it by surprise because if the dogs catch it - it will be ripped in half by a russel and a lurcher pup.
  16. Personally I would have the spaniel for bushing and the lurcher for catching. As said above the pups won't bush aswell as the busher or catch as well as the catcher I wouldn't of thought. Ive got a bushing JRT and a Sal/Whip/Grey but would I feck breed the 2!
  17. Fair enough mate. Like you say it would basically be a big whip/grey with a dash of saluki (1/8). Wouldn't mind seeing one. I would like to see a half cross saluki whippet in the flesh, I think they could be awesome. I would like to put my dog over one in a few years to produce a litter of 3/8 Saluki 3/8 Whippet 2/8 Grey. I think I prefer the smaller saluki based lurcher. Gaz
  18. Personally i think the saluki and whippet would be too diluted. What do you think 3/4 grey or so would bring to the mix that a more equal dose of each would? Interesting to have some opinions as I love sal/whip/greys. Gaz
  19. Some cracking looking dogs here lads. For those who were asking, the bitch above "Rogue" is my pups Dam. Gaz.
  20. I am exactly the same as you AFT. Always keep a bag of redmills in the house. They get it probably once a fortnight if for whatever reason I have forgotten to get meat out or something isn't defrosted etc. I also find the redmills settles upset stomach quickly after 24hrs starving. Whereas with the raw it can drag it out a bit. Gaz
  21. My pup started chewing his kennel a few weeks ago, coming on 7 months so put it down to his teeth. I chucked an old car tyre and a few 8" pieces of 2x2 in the run and it seems to have done the job. Gaz
  22. I was told when I had my pup not to let it rag a rabbit or skin. As said above you want it to bring the rabbit back to hand not play with it or eat it. I am planning on making a rabbit skin dummy for my pup shortly but HOPEFULLY it will be retrieved straight back like he does with his other toys. But we will see... Gaz
  23. I would imagine (if both parents were workers) it would make for a decent dog. Personally I would take a bitch of this breeding and put a working whippet over her. I think the 1/4 terrier would be plenty. However I guess it depends what you want it for. Wouldn't mind hearing off people who have got them. Gaz
  24. Sorry to hear this mate. Cant be nice! Maybe he thought he hit a cat/badger/fox etc? Possibly? Or could of been an old woman too scared to stop in dark lanes? Maybe she went to police after to report it? You could be right and it was in fact a right twat! But it's a bit harsh to just assume so? Gaz
  25. Yeh well the mother is the similar colouring and her dad is the exact colour and markings as my pup. I assumed the black and white came from the greyhound side originally. Gaz
