  1. Had an invite this morning to have a look round a farm a friend has recently gained permission on - a good opportunity for a scrat about and to show the pups whats what. We arrived early & had a good look round, caught a few rats, some large, some small and arranged with the farmer to go back one night with a lamp to see what was about later on. The farm has recently changed hands, and its not hard to see why there are rats about. A few pics (I took too many just to make a change ). We didnt get huge numbers, it was the kind of place to mooch about on and catch whats around, b
  2. Something similar http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/7342248.stm Newts must be on the increase, theres quite a few round our way.
  3. I think the question of the thread was "which terrier is best for bushing" not "which terrier is best for working" I don't think these are at all bad for bushing - some may not agree - each to their own
  4. Much more fun without nets - you got a good bag
  5. Would prefer to have a break from it, but the keeper has asked us to continue again, places we ferreted and just about cleared earlier in the year have quite a few bunnies on them again. These are next to the game crops so we will have to continue for a while longer. I'm on holiday next week and we're planning a couple of trips out, got some nice open bits to do, so the dogs will get a run with a bit of luck. Last year we continued 'till about July. It does keep the ferrets fed and the freezer full, but given a choice, I would prefer to leave the young uns for next years sport; unfortu
  6. Yep, only went up there to meet the lads who bred Nuala and see all her brothers and sisters together, all grown up - only one of the litter wasnt there & it was nice to see them all together. I'd hoped to get some pics of them all but it was too wet. Like you only stopped for about an hour, that was enough to get soaking wet
  7. No jigsaw he was bred by a lad who lives near me who works his dogs to a very high standard, but does go back to a hancock beardie (Findlay) and yes I am delighted with him.
  8. I'm glad Im not alone, can't stand the fella
  9. They look like they really enjoyed themselves
  10. Indie, the black dog is 1/4 beardie 3/4 grey, Nuala the fawn brindle, is a 1/2 deer/grey
  11. Well I don't like to tempt fate but so far nothing serious, one or two minor injuries and scrapes that you would expect from running through branches, twigs sticking out etc. The dogs were brought up ferreting that way, so they have learned to adjust and weave their way through the woods. I sometimes watch them and wince - it does make your heart beat a little faster at times, but like I say, they are used to it
  12. were my instructions this morning, after the last time we were out when I was freezing cold and couldnt stop my teeth a chattering. Well this morning was officially "British Summer Time" but still a little cold Set off an hour earlier than normal, thanks to the clocks changing overnight Nuala was back out with us as her season has thankfully finished, seemed like part of the team was missing without her last time we were out , its surprising what difference it makes and infact how even Indie missed her. As would be expected, we didnt get lots of bolts today, the jills are now in
  13. If there isnt already there'll be a queue there in the morning Manda
  14. Pip I have no personal experience of breeding that close, the closest I have bred is sire and dam sharing the same sire/grandsire and I have not bred many litters and I did it because it was a mating I could never do again. If you follow Felch's chart then in theory it says you can do it, but whether in practice it would work out or not I wouldn't like to say.
  15. Don't suppose this will help if it is the dog rather than the bitch you are wanting to linebreed to. Below is I K Felch's line breeding system, as described by DB Plummer that shows how you can keep the same blood 50/50 over many generations. If you are wanting to linebreed to the dog, theres no reason why you cannot use the dog over a daughter (75% sire) and then breed one of the resulting litter to an unrelated dog whose work qualities you like. I own a dog who is the result of a father to daughter mating (75% sires blood). To be honest I dont think you could go higher than 75%
  16. My seasons not yet ended but heres a few pics from over the season a few EOD pics
  17. Nails were done again tonight, they grow very quickly!

  21. You'll be lucky to get permission in that area terrierguy, I've tried myself many times, spent hours travelling round. You may have better luck if you are prepared to travel further afield.
