Plummers on the whole are a sencible terrier, some are firey but on the whole most get on with other dogs. Most have a good nose equal to anything else and a good hunting drive, they work along side of others and have bags of stamina.I have 2 which have ticked all boxes so far even down to a little earth work and all is going well, work with ferrets, bushing.A plummer even won the gun dog scurry at the welsh game fair last year but the organizer's had to give first prize to a gun dog breed, also know of a few keepers who have them as allround shoot/pest control dogs.

There's a good little article in this weeks Shooting Times on a bit of rabbit catching with ferrets and Plummer Terriers, couple of pages with a few pics quite a good little read.

Terrier work in northern ireland
fireman replied to ferreterni's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Who said and who would use 2 dogs to ground?,i was trying to help point out the law and that in this country england you can pretty much carry on as you used to do but have to now dig for game bird protection. You seem to not know how law works, the hunting with dogs is not against the law.Not as free as it used to be but still with a little thought not so hard to do,read the act i have and it ain't changed much to me or a lot of others you just need to use your brains(ahh i see your problem). -

The use of dogs for finding quarry is not illigal no mater how many are used, the hunting of quarry when it knows it's being hunted is illigal(unless rats or rabbits). You can use 2 dogs to flush to a gun,so you could use 2 greyhounds or saluki's to flush a hare to a man with a gun in the next field, remembering to be safe with the gun when the dogs are to close to the hare;) although there not allowed to catch it.The digging of foxes is also not illigal as long as it's for game bird protection and it's in every ones interests to help the wild bird population on every farm. You can use as many d -
Use a litter tray just put it where they poo and put some poo in it and they will continue to use it,i have 3 litter trays in my court on a flagged floor and is dead easy to clean, empty out the trays and a quick brush up of spilled saw dust. You do want to put a slab down to help keep their claws short, even in a hutch i put a piece down between their sleeping quaters and the run so they are allways running over it,if not skateboard grip tape is really good, self sticky and sticks to anything.

I have a 3 legged hob that was born like it,he has no tail either but does work good little bolter. He climbs the wire on my court ok but don't climb as high as the rest do,good luck with him BRB.

The only danger from feeding rats to ferrets is to yourself,i have fed rats to my ferrets before and will do again but some folks have been ill before due to feeding rats, maybe ditchshitter was the one can't remember for sure but someone on here got ill due to lepto.

Car starter motor, old wire wheel out of a mig welder, car battery and a bit of frame work and a visit to a friendly welder should see you with one a lot cheeper.
-
Plummer, good nose, bidable and versatile,i use mine for bushing, ferreting and ratting in main but have had a little dig with them so a good all round terrier.

Well said mate, lived around St Davids and up to cardigan and found the last 2 hours before high tide are best for the mackeral off the shore.I live by the north sea now and what a muddy crap filled bit of few fish water this is,nothing like the grand clean fish filled waters of the west coast.Oh yea the mackeral should be well in by now, smoothhound, bass, good conger, thornback even the odd turbot should be being landed by now in pembrokeshire this time of year.

mainly because he was keeping one back for himselfself for work and it leaves the option open for anyone wanting a dog to leagly show as the dog is a very good specimen of the breed, also he would make a good stud in future.plummers dont look out of place with a tail.naughty doesnt have a computer by the way,

I ride on no mans back,my missis is pure woman mate.I get out all over the country as a lot of owners will tell you to meet and see owners and their dogs,so i get to see a good few different plummers though out the year and i also get to see the offspring of certain unions and as i have a few friends i here the good and the bad. These are the dogs which are from a few good kennels(ones that your other half has praised on your old forum)that is what i see and what is shown at the shows so i would say a good cross section myself. You call the shows a bun fight and almost make a mockery of them but

Just a quick reply as i've got better things to do today(going to get my lad for the half term),Tim i am man enough to say that i've not bred a plummer litter as yet so i don't or havn't claimed to have bred or know anyone that has bred a fault free strain, what i'm saying is you need CAREFULL breeding to go forward with this breed, how come you don't understand what i'm saying everyone else does plummer owner or not?.3 generations of bad dogs you mention yet your still keeping a bitch to breed from??????????,sounds good kennel managment as does accidental matings in a well run kennels, whoops i

Why you being hostile tim/sue read what i've said carefull breeding oh i can't be arsed repeating it all again. Why do the gun dog lot hip score etc so they know what to and what not to breed?,same with plummer lines is it not?,never have i said plummer owners have to be told how to breed but that some of the more knowledgeable heads among the breeds supporters can help in good sencible breeding so in the very long run faults can be made less common,as is the case nowadays with some of the faults becoming rarer.Accidental line matings need never happen with a good record behind the breed a don'
-
What i'm saying is with carefull breeding the chances of some faults appearing will be dramaticly reduced, hip fault carrier to hip fault carrier = hip faults presant, you should know that this is important or do you just breed plummer x plummer?,no you don't.No slagging here mate just that at this stage of the breed a breeding free for all would not help the breed at all,the lines will go or if not only be held in accidental line matings and there would be no point in any of the peds of line history other than in name only rather than the facts about the lines we can at the moment, helpfull unbi

I belive that with good breeding that the faults carried within the breed can be bred out,a freedom of choice about the out cross blood but as you are involved in the new blood project you do have to think they are better. All i'm saying is think about the lines you want to use and do your homework on it,the advice is out there from a few different people(politics aside)and is not hard to get,you may get some oppinions that differ but it's down to the breeder themselves in the end to use whatever stud and as you know yourself plummer x plummer with no thought can lead to fault carrying dogs tha

With sencible breeding the plummer gene pool is safe at the moment for a good few years to come without the need to outcross, when i say sencible with most plummers they have a pedigree which with the help of a few different redgistars can be followed back. With this cross breeding presenting faults such as patela lux'tion, hip dispaysia, cleft palets and others can be avioded,a unique thing to be able to in the working terrier world.Willy nilly breeding plummer to plummer =plummer won't be helping the breed in the long run as there are some faults that need irradicating, sounds a bit much but this

Here we go again another another month another post about how crap plummers are.How on earth can you make judgment off a photo, why don't you at least go and look at a few in the flesh before giving a opinion like the one i saw on a pic didn't look like it could do a days work so there all crap, sounds stupid is well lets say not very well thought through. Not many plummer owners (and i know a good few)claim the plummer is better than other types, what they will say is these dogs do take some beating in some areas, yes ratting and rabbiting formost but there are some very good earth working plummer

A few things to sort out with location is wind, rain ans the sun,you don't want to put it where the rain will be pouring in when it's windy and wet also you don't want them sat with no cover in the summer. The conifer rip it out and then trim the little tree so it can provide either a wind break or cover from the sun,i have made my court out of a bird aviery and attached a shed to it,both can be found in add papers for a lot less than some of these pro built courts.Easy to clean no bending over all cramped up and i use litter trays it's really easy, putting at least a concrete slab down in their

There is a guide that can be hired for the day from the bridge shop if you want a proper days fishing but all your catch with a persil bag is crabs(the sea animal not the other sort of crabs assocated with harbours),some carp like gear is fine for a bit of light harted sea fishing, ask in the shop and tell them what you need they were allways really helpful to me.

I know this pup and he is ment to be out of Reeces Billy,he's come from lads that do know and work there bull crosses. He is going to be a awsome looking dog when he matures and has done all that been asked of him so far,not my thing these bull crosses but he is a real grand beast in the flesh.

Look over the ground find the runs and escape routes, clear any undergrowth block escape routes and don't forget your spades either, you won't get to all places with a smoker.A walk at dusk or after dark with a lamp should show you where most will be found and their runs.Good luck and enjoy.

I've fished in Weymouth,on the pier over the brigde and past the lifeboat is best.On the right hand side onto open sea it is very snaggy but with a float you can catch small pollock, poutin some mackral and school bass, there are a few fish to be had fishing into the entrance to the port as such.Have seen some very good mullet lurking around the boats and marina also off the sea wall by the beach, the lads in the fishing shop by the bridge are well helpfull, the bloke in the other shop in the town isn't.Seen some lads fishing for bass off the beach using slipper limpets which can be picked off the
